Otay Truck Trail / Pink Gate Ride - Noob Friendly

My bike is already dirty from the last ride so I’m ok with a little rain. Worst case scenario is end it early and eat before noon, I’m ok with that!
  3. No air marshal, aviation mechanic. Retired as a Senior Chief. Have a great ride, get lots of pics.
  4. It’s a long ride down here for some simple fire roads, but would have been nice to meet you. I’d say just give it a shot for the forest roads, will be fun no matter what happens.

    Yes!
  6. Even a Lexus can visit this trail.

Otay Truck Trail / Pink Gate Ride - Noob Friendly

Yes, Sunday. I went out to pre-run a bit of it yesterday but realized that I probably brought the wrong bike. Won’t make that mistake on the ride.
  8. Looks like lots of trail closures, but the site isn't always updated. https://www.fs.usda.gov/detailfull/cleveland/alerts-notices/?cid=stelprdb5340229
  9. That's a long way to go for a short ride, but it could be expanded to an all day ride if they wanted to do it. From LA I would suggest maybe ride down to Main Divide off the 74? I have no idea which of those trails are open, been a few years since I rode there and the rain may have gate closures in effect?
  10. I didn't say anything about a sticker....
  11. I know a lot of us ride and camp out at OW, take a morning off to help make sure the place stays clean and stays open. https://www.clean-dezert.org/

I just had my dates messed up. Works for me! See y’all on Sunday.

Otay Truck Trail / Pink Gate Ride - Noob Friendly

Well I thought that I had set this for Saturday, but I guess it's on Sunday. Is everyone okay with a Sunday ride? It works either way for me.....

    YZilla YZ500 2 Stroke

I sent this to you a long time ago! Pretty cool but it’s more money than I want to spend on something that is too powerful for me anyway. I’m better suited for a 125!
  15. I’m considering overnight camping there. Let me know if anyone is interested.
  16. Yeah, a motorcycle isn't going to be the best way to really do this job but it could work. Come for the cleanup, stay for the burgers and prizes. See you out there, I'll be the only guy in a Lexus IS300 with a TRD race paint scheme.
  17. I probably won’t get into the tough stuff too much, the 690 is a handful and I am just an intermediate rider.
  18. Some of it is level, most of it’s hills though. Bad joke. Lots of fire roads, just less maintained than Otay Truck Trail. I think I will put together a group ride out there next weekend since it sounds like a few people have not been there.
  19. No, we had two people show up. Anyway, I went to the OW cleanup last year and they provided a burger/chips/drink and there were LOTS of raffle prizes. Like $500 cash, winches, jackets, crazy good stuff.
  20. "Pink Gate" is off Hwy 94 between the Border Patrol checkpoint and Dulzura. It used to be open majority of the time, got closed/locked several years ago "temporarily" due to rain or a fire.....can't recall which but it never really reopened after that. It was reworked with a walk through that was wide enough for a motorcycle to go through, one of my BP contacts who is into dual sport riding said he had input on that design.

    Adventure packing - interesting video

Adventure is not about the bike, it’s about the ride. I end all my YouTube videos with this statement: “Get out there and find YOUR adventure”. So, adventure away.

    Adventure packing - interesting video

I ran into similar “lightweight snobbery” when I got into backpacking. Sure you have a 12 pound pack, but it’s $5000 worth of crap and you have zero comfort. Save weight where you can, but just ride your ride. I do pick up ideas from stuff like this though, so it’s worth watching even if the way I do it is different.

    Adventure packing - interesting video

Agree with Udo. Videos like that are kind of silly, the guy said how “everyone is doing it wrong” but they are just doing it differently than he does. Getting wrapped up in how someone else does things is a waste of time, just go do it!
