    Tires

I run Maxxis IT's on my dual sported WR400. They are a good tire, I like it a lot for the terrain around here. I don't run much on the street but when I do they don't feel awful. Not DOT approved though. Tom

    Noob looking to ride

The D606 stick great to pavement considering they are knobbies. They work good in the corners also, and aren't too noisy on the freeway.
  3. Hey, good point. Is there a community bonfire or something similar at Butterfield Ranch? If so, I will contribute. Tom
  4. I'll be bringing some cold beverages of a similar variety also, maybe good old Celebration Ale. I was just shopping online for a rollchart holder. May take you up on that offer if all else fails. Tom
  5. I have room for one more in my RV and space on my trailer if anyone is looking for a place to stay. It's not luxury but my RV has a fridge to keep your drinks cold and a stove to warm up your oatmeal in the morning. I've got a spot reserved at Butterfield Ranch for Friday and Saturday night and plan on leaving San Diego Friday whenever the last person is ready, I should be off by noon or earlier. Split gas and space reservation costs between three people and save some $$$. Tom
  6. Welcome Tuan, hope to see you out in the dez or on a dualsport ride again soon!

    sprockets ratio?

It's a mod to the airbox on a DRZ400, where you cut a 3x3 hole into the top of it.

    sprockets ratio?

A basic rule of thumb is that one tooth down on the front is equal to approx 3 larger on the rear. It's always easier to go one smaller on the front because you usually don't need to change chain length.
  9. Yeah, I sure wanted to try to get out there too but don't feel like trespassing to do it. Google Earth has Goat Trestle Canyon marked as a point of interest so it's easy to map out a trail on it.

    Fun Bike Center, Bike Fit

It's good to see I'm not the only guy who dislikes FBC. How do they stay in business? Anyone here with a positive about FBC?
  11. That 230 rear tire must look like one of those bada$$ choppers they make on Discovery Channel.
  12. I kind of inadvertantly hijacked a thread on the for sale/wanted section when I mentioned my supermoto project. I'm adapting GS500E rims onto my DRZ400S. It's not my original idea, a few have done it over on ThumperTalk. I'm not quite done yet but it's almost there. So far I have a total of -$50 into the project. I bought a complete 1990 GS500E on craigslist for $150 and have sold about $300 worth of parts off the bike. I'm still waiting on my front caliper relocator bracket from the machine shop and a rear sprocket as you can see by the chain. Here's the pics, it's not finished yet but you get the idea.
  13. A friend and I did that ride yesterday and it was snowing at noon, something you just don't expect to see riding in San Diego. A bunch of the gates that are usually locked were open yesterday so we got to check out some areas that I hadn't explored yet. Great fun.
  14. I have been looking over Google Earth and San Diego topographic maps trying to see if I can ride anywhere close to Goat canyon trestle. Looks like some trails get within a mile or two but I am not sure if they are passable, it's difficult to tell on Google and the topographic map shows some elevation changes from mild to wild. A friend and I have been talkign about giving it a try, but were wondering if anyone here has been anywhere near there. So what is the verdict? Try it, done it, or just absolutely crazy??
  15. What's the estimated completion time for this ride? I work Sunday afternoon but would like to make it for a ride.

    New Year's Weekend

I've got firewood and a few Christmas trees to light up the night. My daughter got a new bike for Christmas (03 CRF230, dual sported) so she will be trying that out. I think we will be going out Friday, either get there before lunch or after dinner depending on if I have to work or not.

    New Year's Weekend

I'll be there on Friday morning also in a Winnebego superchief '31 M/H (tan and brown) with a 525 exc KTM #113 and a 125 Husky (for Sale). Being at the Dip we probablly are a ways from the course. Also the ride to the Blu Inn should be away from the course as well. But we are close enough to find a veiwing point if anyone wants to check out the race on Sunday. I didn't know you hung out here Tree. We're heading to the supes for the weekend too, mind if we circle the wagons with your group?

    New Year's Day

I am taking my family to Superstition for New Years weekend. I have a boy who is 10 and girl who is 13, and a wife who is...a rider also. If you'd like to meet up for a ride that would be cool.
  19. That is a fantastic landmark. I try to spot it from the air whenever I fly in from Phoenix. The rail to the bridge is definitely off-limits to motor vehicles. This guys map http://www.dankat.com/swhikes/carizo.htm shows where people park to hike or bike in. To be quite honest, I am not sure if the area is still technically accessible by bike anymore, now that the line has changed hands and has been put into partial operation. There was some damage to the bridge by vandals... "The Goat Canyon Trestle, the world's largest wooden railroad trestle, has vandalism damage, mostly from para-military types dropping rocks onto the support below." REF: http://www.otaymesa.org/otay-act/Railway2.html Yeah, we get a pretty good view of it when we fly helo ops out to the desert for practice landings. I wasn't looking to ride all the way out there, but hoping to find a legal trail that would get within a mile or so and be able to hike in. Looks like a few roads in the In-Ko-Pah area get to the south end and there is a road off the Imperial Highway that may get to the north end. Would be fun to try anyway.
  20. I was on Otay Lakes Road right after that crash, doing a poker run. I'm glad to hear that some of that area is still open, I figured that at least Otay Truck Trail would still be good to go. Any time anyone wants to head out there let me know, it's a fun ride.
