cardiffchris 0 Posted April 8, 2007 bike just poured out about a cup of gas on my garage floor. any ideas, leaky carb? perhaps carb rebuild time.
carguy 1 Posted April 8, 2007 It seems to be common that most floats stick from time to time. I know mine on the XR occasionaly sticks. I just tap it or run it for a while and it stops. I would steer that way before rebuilding or??
tntmo 912 Posted April 8, 2007 Does it have a vacuum operated petcock? Those things fail once in a while, and that along with a slightly bad float valve will give you a floor covered in gas.
cardiffchris 0 Posted April 9, 2007 how do you recognize a vacuum operated petcock versus a gravity fed one.
tntmo 912 Posted April 9, 2007 how do you recognize a vacuum operated petcock versus a gravity fed one. It would have a hose from the intake manifold to the petcock. Also won't have an "OFF" position on the petcock, only ON/PRI/RES.
Vintage DR 0 Posted April 9, 2007 You may want to check the oil too, if the air box is full of gas, the crankcase may be as well. My '90 had that problem when I first bought it. Pull the dipstick and see if it smells like gas. Usually it barely runs at all. Better off getting the petcock off of a later DRZ400E or even a banshee will work, then you can shut it off. Good luck
