This is copied/pasted from the email I received today....

We've studied the Draft Environmental Impact Statement

for Ocotillo Wells and its scary!

Initially the geothermal leases will impact 14,731 acres

right in the Ocotillo Wells SVRA and if successful have the

potential to grow to 40,320 acres or HALF THE PARK!

Visit our website today to see how YOU can stop this

from happening.

Pass this along to everyone you know who uses

Ocotillo Wells off road park.

Good post Aaron. I got the same email from Sherri and I've already written a couple of letters on this issue. It's a nasty one! ;)

If only the environmentalists would join us in opposing this exploration

We can only wish the enviro groups would jump on this. But then again they most likely would blind side us with something off the books in the end.

The logic they use really makes me  So it it a geothermal active area.....that means that the landscape will change no matter what people do to it, we cannot control it one iota.Look at Los Angeles....It is an active "Geothermal" zone which did not stop them from building a Megaopolis there.....WTF?

When are these people going to get an understanding that we do not have any control over tetonic plate movement and the Earths ever shifting crust and surface. I will be watching this with interest, it's almost as illogical as the people who tried to save the Salton sea years back by diverting water from the Colorado river there. Hell it was actually made from run off caused by man's exploitation of the land.......Look at it now...the Salton Sea is nothing more than a big stinking sewer from the result of irresponsible and ignorant management.

Anyone here remember the news about the big "die offs" of birds out there? DDT from farm and agriculture run off and the exotic strains of bacteria growing in all of that stagnant water is what caused it all. The pelicans and coastal migratory birds used to breed in Baja just like the Grey whales do until they found the man made sewer that made their migratory routes shorter for them.

Sorry if I hijacked your thread Aaron, this kind of thing just makes me so frustrated, I love this country but sometime these so called "educated" people are so clueless that we all end up paying for their ignorance and influence one way or another.

More/ or the same info again. Just the usual loop through all the clubs.

San Diego Off-Road Coalition Update

ARE YOU WILLING TO GIVE UP 14,731 ACRES OF OFF-ROAD RIDING AREAS FOR

GEOTHERMAL POWER DEVELOPMENT?

The San Diego Off-Road Coalition needs all off-roaders to act now. There is

grave danger to one of our favorite riding areas.

The Federal Bureau of Land Management wants to lease 14,731 acres of prime

off-road land to companies to build geothermal energy plants. Over 80% of the

land is inside the Ocotillo Wells SVRA. The remaining acres are just east of

Pole Line road and have traditionally been enjoyed for off-roading.

It is critical that off-road enthusiasts send their WRITTEN COMMENTS to the

BLM to oppose this project.

If you value OCOTILLO WELLS you need to take the time to mail a comment and

get ALL YOUR FRIENDS to do the same.

DO IT NOW - DON'T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE! The San Diego Off-Road

Magazine has excellent guidelines for action. Go to their Web site at

_http://www.sandiegooffroad.com/news_5.htm_ (http://www.sandiegooffroad.com/news_5.htm)

for instructions. Written comments mailed have the most effect, so sit down,

write and send your comments today. Written comments are being taken until April

30.

DON’T MISS OUR NEXT MEETING!

Our next meeting is Tuesday, April 3, at the usual time and place

(_www.sdorc.org/general_meetings.html_ (http://www.sdorc.org/general_meetings.html) ).

We will be raffling off tickets to the Championship Off Road Racing (CORR)

race in Antelope Valley April 22/23. There will be four tickets for Saturday

and four for Sunday. The tickets were donated by CORR and given to us by the

Off-Road Business Association.
