  1. Howdy all, First off, Happy Thanksgiving I picked up a '99 for $400 from a loady that runs but has a broken case mounting for the gear between the starter and flywheel: Loady told me that previous owner had it welded but didn't install a torque limiter gear like other years have. Apparently the 99's came with just a regular gear instead of the torque limiter gear and this is a weak spot on this particular year. Is he right? It's not weldable anymore by the looks of it and I'd like to know if the only way to fix it is to split the case and get another left side from Ebay? I new buying it that it might be a "parting out" bike but was curious what fixing it might cost? Thanks for any input.

  3. Is it still possible to get a plate for a '97 KDX220 if it dosen't already have one?
  4. If a second person cancels, Scumbag will be glad to fill the spot.
  5. May I make a suggestion? Howsabout something like: start at gas station/store in Warner Springs, Lost Valley/Puerta Cruz truck trail(explore some side trails) to Anza, up Thomas Mt/Rouse Ridge, down Blackburn Ridge to Bautista cyn and up either of the off-road only single tracks to Hixson flat/Little Cahuila Mtn. Or it could start down somewhere in Ramona and go up Black Canyon Rd/Mesa Grande Rd to Warner Springs.

    Hello From Camp Pendleton

Hey Jaysen, Welcome from a fellow DRZ'er. I work for a contractor in the 22 area and ride my DRZ to work everyday from Temecula. Let me know if you want to go for a ride on the trails up here. And speaking of trails, you wouldn't happen to know of any we could ride on base? Baron
  8. BTW, if anyone wants to ride my DRZ while I ride lil Suzy, your more than welcome.
  9. This is in my neighborhood. Will be there with "lil Suzy" to generate some sales interest .....
  10. I'll be there but I'll be riding in and not taking up any space (probably throw my tent down in one of those Yellow spaces). I'll bring $$ for the food!
  11. Scott, aka Happytrails, is hosting a Big Bear ride/camp over on AdvRider for the weekend of May 14-16th. I'll be trucking the DR385 up and have room for another bike if anyone is interested. I'll be leaving the Temecula area around 2:30 Friday afternoon. The link for the ride is: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread....;highlight=bear
  12. Howdy, I'm selling my DR650 this Saturday and thinking of picking up a 01 Yamaha WR250R (Plated). I am going to try the more dirt approach to dual sporting and want to know more about the Yamie. Any thoughts/opinions/bias? TIA. Baron
  13. I'm going to meet you all at 9:30 down at the gas station on the 905. What station will I be looking for? I am coming from Temecula and will be riding a DR650. See you there.
  14. Well, well, well. I see Nissan has finally gotten around to admiting there is a problem with their fuel sending units: Nissan recalls nearly 540,000 vehicles worldwide - Yahoo! News Must be scared of the negative publicity that Toyota is getting and finally listening to their customer complaints. Of coarse, this is after I already replaced mine myself after trying to get it done under warranty. I worked my way from the local dealership all the way to the President of Nissan USA Carlos Ghosn to have this replaced under warranty since so many people were having the same problem (sound familiar Kawasaki/Dohicky). After telling me politely to go f*ck myself I wrote to the BBB and state attorney general. They both told me it had to be "life threatening" in order for them to do an investigation. So I bought the part myself, changed it out and saved $400. And then the Toyota negative pr happens and Nissan starts listening to its complaints. I think when I get the recall I will take it in anyway so they can replace it a 2nd time . BTW, if you ever heard of that retail phrase: a customer with a good experience will tell one other person, a customer with a bad experience will tell ten other people; I'm the customer that intends to tell 100 other people
  15. "forgot his name": Badassbobthecattlerustler, sheesh, how could you forget a name like that!?!
  16. Randy, I don't have a ride partner for the event. Will you be partnering up people in the same situation? For those seeking alternative camping (i.e. on a budget) there's always Blair Valley just up the road. And the price is very attractive: free!

    new to dual sport ridin'

Thanks that would be awesome...how about next week sometime? I can go pretty much whenever bc I'm not working right now... Unfortunately mid week rides are out for me due to work. The next weekend that we will be home, (ie. not camping) will be the 27th so let me look into putting a group ride together on that weekend. Did someone say "Group Ride" in my neighborhood?? I'm in. Sorry for the hijack......

    New Memeber, sort of

Howdy-hi, I'm actually more of a lurker than a new member. I meet Blind-in-One-Ear a while back at a tech day for KLR's and he told me about this site. No longer have the KLR but a DR650 now so the name dosen't fit. I've been dual-sporting for the past five years or so. Always seem to end up with some kind of 650 although I loved my KDX200 in Montana and a DRZ400 while I had it. I would love to have another light weight plated dirt bike but the DR is just so pratical. I just can't give up throwing a ton of camping gear on the back of the blue pig and heading out for some multi-day bike camping trip (anyone going to Death Valley at the end of the month?). I got to do the CDT this past summer thanks to being unemployed and enjoy setting up camp out in Anza Boreggo aways from the Ocotillo crowd and exploring. I'm not particularly fast or do any hard core trails but I had no problem following Crawdaddys GPS tracks through the park (even if I had to skid down the Drop). I imagine I'll run into a few of you out on the trails. I live in Temecula so I don't get down to Corral Canyon and places like that much. I might sign up for the Desert Dash as long as the Blue Pig can handle it. Baron in Temecula

    Labor Day Weekend

I myself am going to do the Big Bear camping on Labor Day for some cycling/4x4ing. Much more trails up that away (damn good mt biking too!). Anybody have some recommended trails to do, let me know. Thanks.
  20. I was going to go for about a half of the day. Buddy, from Julian, wants me to weld up a tractor muffler for his new "green" bike. I'm going to try and strap down the MIG on the back of the KLR. How to see any of you there.
  21. Anybody on this list going to this: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=133916 I'm leaving from N. San Diego on Thursday afternoon if anybody wants to ride up together.

BBQ, Get Together and Who Are You ??

Baron from Bonsall with, as the name implies, a KLR. The "pig" gets away from me at times but has done everything I've asked of it. Need some more dirt riding time and less comuting time. Anybody have Wensdays off?? I heard about this site after reading a post on KLR.net from "Wowee Kawee" Only been riding for about 3 years but go every chance I get. Looking foward to the BBQ whenever it is and I'll be the one wearing the nametag: Hi, my name is Scumbag.
