    Electric start 2strokes!

Like I said, if you got bad knees like I do, especially my kickstarter one, the bike would be great. Also for shorter riders....oh look, me again, it would be less awkward. After all, who doesn't stall once in a while in a gnarley technical spot? Certainly not me!
  2. Well, I have been nosing around on all the motorcycle manufacturers websites, trying to get a look at all their new dirt or dual sport models and when I got to the KTM site, lo and behold they came out with a new XC W e in both 250 and 300cc sizes. What was the little e for? Electric start. Just the thing for us older dirt riders with decrepid knees, who still love a good two stroke. Time to think about getting rid of my "kicker" EXC and saving my pennies for a ringdinger with magic button Whee! ....Okay, maybe I'm the only one who thinks this is the neatest thing since sliced bread

    newbee here...

Good move on the boot purchase! Dont forget some cheap knee insurance while you are selecting some boots. A 30$ pair of knee guards will make an otherwise owie fall into one of little concern. See you soon on one of our rides

    corral canyon volcano?

Well as long as you and your neighbors are alright. We don't want to read a post about Carguys unplanned BBQ

    newbee here...

Hmmm you look suspiciously new to dirt in that photo. I think the leather sport jacket and "civilian shoes" gave you away Anyway, welcome. There will be lots of fun rides for you to go on with this group.

    corral canyon volcano?

Oh BUMMER! As if last years fire wasn't enough. I wonder if an "international traveler" accidently let a camp fire get away from them. At the rate things are going, soon there won't be any place pretty, left to ride in that area :hysteric: :mega_shok:

    Dropping the knee braces

I don't know about that. I do know that if any one point of your body has too much support, it can cause the impact to transfer the next nearest unsupported weak spot it can find(depending on what type of impact). I remember when the first red Scott boots came out back in the 70s. It took a little while for people to figure out that the boot had a little too much ankle support and not enough "give to protect the knee joints, and alot of original Scott wearers got more knee injuries than they bargained for.

    FRACK!

"But... the cash is in hand if it comes up again. I was actually preferring the 450, due to it's ability to rev quicker (based on what I read), so I'll keep an eye out." It was meant to be! You'll find your 450 and have a revvin' good time when you do. :mega_shok:

    CRF230L

I took another look at the little paperweight on the Honda sight. I noticed that Honda is very careful to not accidently suggest that you actually go trail riding on the bike. They seem to be trying to suggest that the machine is kind of a two wheel version of the suburban mini-suv, even though it is hardly practical for anything like going shopping, etc. They have suggested that you might find it suitable for riding on a dirt road :hysteric: Gosh, I'll probably end up owning two or three of them :mega_shok:
  10. I might join you guys. My po' lil' street bike never gets to go out and have any fun, so now might be a good time to take it out for a spin, charge up the battery and postpone yet another carb overhaul. :mega_shok:

    CRF230L

Cute and about 267 pounds ready to ride. Bet it's not as cute as my TE 450 in whoop-de-doos. I am just on pins and needles waiting to see if Japan is ever going to make a competitive trail bike like the Europeans have right now. They might figure out it's a good market. :mega_shok:

Okay.. Who is going to be the first SDAR'er?

That muffler probably weighs 30 pounds all by itself! :hysteric: And don't forget that Husqvarna makes a 239 pound 250 that would probably stomp that bike into the ground on at least a couple of different points. :mega_shok:

    FRACK!

SMR also has less suspension travel and different gearing(as read in my owners manual)than the TE. Wahhh :mega_shok: :hysteric: I'm sad for you, too!

  15. Starry Starry night ? what about Jasmine on my mind Now you got that song stuck in my head. That is "Summer Breeze" by Seals and Crofts.
  16. Today was nice! but, I had to work . Yesterday was also pretty nice and the first time since our wonderful night ride that I ventured out on a bike. It was just an easy putsy-wutsy little ride, pyro style from my house out through Valley Center, Nate Harrison Grade to Palomar mountain, down the twisty front side, stopped at San Luis Rey river at picnic ground, over to Mesa Grande, down Black Canyon, took the trail cut to Pamo, over to San Pasqual, back into town, 103 miles on the KLX, didn't even stop for gas. Nobody out on the roadway and pretty fair weather except in Black Canyon area, a little warm there. And of course, ice cream when I got back If the days events made me think of any song it would have been "Summer Breeze" by Seals and Crofts. Why, it even has references to jasmine in it I'd link it if I knew how. I know you'd find it on Youtube.
  17. I have never seen McCain Valley closed for fire safety reasons.

What a Bunch of Cool Cats!

I agree about the club Back in the 70s and 80s I never seemed to lack for riding company, but by the 90s, most of the people I knew who rode quit, especially dirt riding. By 1995, I was doing very little riding except for street. I decided in the year 2000, that I had wasted to much time not dirt riding, so I started up again. I didn't have anybody to ride with. Occasionally I would find people to go with, but just didn't seem to get the right "fit" with anyone (people were flakes, busy, didn't like the venue, the weather, etc.) I am really glad to have found San Diego Adventure Riders.

Have you ever seen a desert turtle in our desert?

I don't know about all them "funny bidness" critters, but I was riding south of Questhaven road near Escondido back in the mid 80s on some secret trails out there. (Schwinn might have ridden them too?) I was on a rocky little trail in a canyon on my XR200R late in the day, when I came around a turn and there in front of me was a strange animal that was smaller than a coyote and bigger than a housecat. It had a reddish coat, black legs, a long black and white ringed tail and a masked face that was somewhat cat-like in appearance. We startled each other; the critter ran, occasionally glancing back at me as I pursued, trying to get a closer look. After about 100 feet of trail sprinting, the little weirdo disappeared into the heavy brush. I went home and got out my Critter book and found out that the little beast was a coatimundi, whos range starts in South America and ends in the extreme south part of the U.S., I'm guessing Escondido, to be exact I have seen bobcats and once, a mountain lion in the hills, but that one coatimundi was the most exotic species I have seen in the wilds around here

Have you ever seen a desert turtle in our desert?

I'll chip in for a U-haul, if somebody would just please haul the so-called environmentalist off somewhere.

Have you ever seen a desert turtle in our desert?

Don't get me started about environmentalists. I had seen many articles in my AMA magazines about how large mining companies could go in and destroy or move all the tortoises they wanted to back in the 80s if they had enough money to feed the environmentalists. I have read documentation on other unsavory activities they are involved in, not in the name of good stewardship of the land, but just $$$$$

    Labor day

I was luckily working on Sunday and I say luckily because I got to work in an air conditioned building. Otherwise I would have had to figure out some other cool place to be that day, and it wouldn't have been inland without a pool or at least sprinklers. :heat: I had today off also and made a run up to Bass Pro Shop in Rancho Cucomunga (or however it's spelled). Got to look at a big tank of overweight catfish, some pie plate sized bluegill and some bummed-out looking largemouth bass, then went and checked out the fly fishing supplies. It was nice and cool in the store, had that outdoorsy motif going and as a bonus, it smelled like BBQ :heat: Too many ijits on the freeway though. I counted 10 cars that were involved in collisions while creeping at 5 mph south to Escondido, and that was just in the Ontario area.

    Dunlop D908RR

I'm running 739's... very good dirt tire, but WOULD wear very quickly on the freeway if you were to try a non-DOT tire on the freeway... but they would grip pretty well on most twisty roads... again IF you were to try them on a twisty road... I ran 739 front and 756 rear on my KLX before I made the street coversion. The set was pretty new when I made the bike street legal, so I decided to keep running them till they wore out. The front 739 fared worse than the rear 756 and wore kinda flat in the center. They were just okay in the twisties. I ran a matched set of Bridgestone ED03 front and ED04 rear DOT knobbies. That is what is on there now. Predictably, they really crank on the pavement and are just a cut above so-so in the dirt. I decided to try the Dunlop combo on the TE for that reason
