    Sand riding day

Poor KL, don't sweat it. I thought if I wasn't on the sand ride that I wouldn't fall down. My Saturday ride took me and my 450 through plenty of sand, all handled with relative ease, but I managed to stall and fall over hopping up a little boulder and then the wind pushed me over when I was attempting to park on a ridgetop ! Neither of those spots were sandy. Guess I was just having a bad day . My bike almost fell over all by itself while parked, when a strong wind gust caught it and tipped the rear wheel off the ground. I caught it and rolled it behind a big rock, out of the wind.

    Monday

And don't get the cheap crummy vinyl one. Those get damaged real easily by ultra violet rays from the sun and then just fall apart, leaving you with no powerband at all

    Sand riding day

whaaaa! I gotta get to bed earlier and quit oversleeping I missed another great one, especially the muddy part. I went riding too, and as I was driving out through the pouring rain, I was pretty excited about water, mud or even just plain old traction, but when I got to McCain, it was sunny and as dry and powdery as ever. What a bummer. I thought about you guys and wondered if you had gotten some rain to make the ride more fun. Glad you all had fun, wish I did too. Well I did have fun, but not as much as you did, I'm sure.

    R1 Adventure Rider

I have ridden enough sport bikes in the dirt to know I don't want to ride a sportbike in the dirt! I think I'll stick to dualsports. That's enough adventure for me.
  5. I would love to do multi-day tours. I want to do at least part of the Trans-American trail and stuff like that, but like others, I can't get time off. Heck, I can't even get two days in a row off each week. I like to do single track alot and have the smaller machines that are geared towards technical riding rather than adventure touring, so I do mostly day rides in areas that suit my tastes and machines well.
  6. Hey Terrible, that's terrible! Glad you are alright now. I think I'll take another look at what kind of helmet you were wearing in the night ride photos from the 25th. Maybe I won't buy that model....or I could just avoid endoes

    RAIN!

I don't know what the weather is doing at your house right now, but at mine it's RAINING! Yay
  8. I think it looks like fun. I would consider a day trip first and then I would be up for a longer one I think. Around 1980 or 1981 was the last (and only) time that I rode in Mexico. I entered the Gringo 100 Enduro near Roserita Beach. It was fun and I got a 3rd place trophy, too
  9. I thought were still considering the three-day option or a different shorter ride for the 19th? You are right 2wheels. I guess the date is still open, we are just not sure yet (plans pending). Plans are on the works as we speak. We just want to ride and have fun! Opps, I just realized I'm singed up as husky and not GB, now I'm confused about who I am... Well, I'm the same guy, Martin, with the husky bike... Why don't you just be one guy and then it will reduce confusion for you and everybody

    RAIN!

Just be glad that you don't live in Washington state on the west side of the Cascades. I did for almost one year. They have two seasons up there; winter and June 21st . It just never stops raining. Anyway, more rain is supposed to be on the way for tomorrow and Saturday morning. Let's just keep our fingers crossed that we get it!

    Two Weeks Notice

If you want to get Wednsday rides going, I have that day off usually. I rode today Congrats on getting a new job and some time off. I have a dead end retail job, but at least it's only a mile from my house, only 45 hours a week and has to do with fun stuff (fishing and hunting). Still, I wish to do better. Well, good luck and have some fun riding.
  12. I'll loan you a set of training wheels. :fool: Then you won't have to concentrate so much on technique! As long as they are as fat as ATC tires I might stay up... ummmm no, I think you have to ride next to me so if I fall I will have a little cushion to land on. Make sure you ware a color coordinated outfit that will match my DR so you will look good laying under me and my bike !!! Hhhmmmm, methinks I'd have to wear a red outfit to coordinate with the amount of blood loss that would be incurred if I were to end up under your "tanker" :scratch_one-s_head:

  14. I have ridden and raced sand since 1972 and I still hate it unless I'm going at least 50 miles per hour. :scratch_one-s_head: I don't know if I'd be a teacher or a student. It looks more and more like we might get some rain before Saturday, but I might join you guys

    Lets see the projects

Do you have that bike now or are those old photos. I had a kawasaki mach III triple 2 stroke 750 in High School, to this day its the only bike that made me start shaking before I got on the bike. :scratch_one-s_head: Hey Schwinn, I had the 500 triple. I learned to ride Palomar on it, so I guess I can ride Palomar on anything. The key used to fall out of the ignition while going down the road, prompting me to turn around and go on a footsearch for it along the highway. My big project for the machine was to get rid of it

    Testing the waters

Henry, you may want to think again about getting rid o' the truck. I wish I had kept mine to transport the bike to some of the further away riding places I'll be showing you in the near future. Trailers blow as you're supposed to not exceed 55 mph. I miss my truck. Having a truck to haul the bike(s) in is really nice! If you have a car or SUV, you can always get a hitch and hauler for it :scratch_one-s_head:

    thanks

I"d like to thank all the people who wished me a happy birthday, today.

    thanks

Thanks to all who took a look at the post and answered. I am getting so old I forgot exactly how many years old I was. I think I forgot a year last year, proving that as you get older, everything just kind of blurs together. For guys, aging is a more gradual process I think. For women, the hormones fall right over the cliff all at once and it is pretty tough on most of us. I am lucky to have motorcycles and good riding buddies :scratch_one-s_head: Thanks again, for the rides we have had and the many ones that are yet to come.

Thanks. Well, there will be another street ride and then you'll see me with this lil' beauty

    Street ride

I planned to hit the pavement with the trusty 550, but was barely done hitting the mattress when it was time for me to launch the little four-in-line out the garage. Later, I dragged my lazy buns over to McCain Valley and test-rode my new Dunlop tires for the first time on my TE. After playing with the air pressure a bit, I found that both tires performed smoothly on roads, the rear 606 sucked in the sand and both the front 908 and rear soaked up impact well enough to improve performance in rocky sections. The poor lil' street bike still needs to get out and play, though Sorry I missed the ride, sounds like it was fun, and I haven't had a chance to ride with Schwinn yet. I don't remember Paul from a ride either.
  21. No I have never known any instances where a green sticker vehicle has been the cause of a fire. It is always camp or debri fires, some kind of farm vehicles, cigarettes or lightening, seem like. And yes, I was thinking about the irony of closing down an area to law abiding outdoorsmen (and women) so that only people who are not supposed to be there and don't have a clue or a care about what they are doing are the only ones out there.
  22. I might do something today. Have to work Sunday. Already overslept and missed Carguys street ride

    Arrowhead Volcano

Whaaaaaa! What's next? Oh, that's right. There is nothing left. Everything has burned up!
  24. "Last time it was a hunter who lite an ILLEGAL fire because he was lost and scared! Big dumb hunter with a gun got scared. What a puss!" Uh.... I think that was the big fire back in 2003 that you are thinking of. Last years fire that started in Horsethief canyon and burned most of Corral Canyon was started by an illegal campfire, but not by a hunter.
  25. What is left around here besides McCain Valley? Everything else is closed and burnt out, or out in the desert or up north.
