methinks that last shot ends up under the heading "do not try this at home" :mega_shok:
  2. dame... I know that tastee freeze (or whatever it's called) well... It's Frosty Burger, but that doesn't really make any sense. I can't picture biting into a frostburned frozen cheesburger! :mega_shok: And also you make it sound like an unlucky spot somehow
  3. Sorry that I(and for that matter anybody else)could not make it out for your ride this weekend. But there are alot more weekends where this one came from :mega_shok: , so see you soon on another ride

    This weekend...

By the way, that Youtube stuff IS the main part of Rodriguez Canyon. Sand practice #2 went up the part that the SUV is coming down. We were going to split left and take the Chariot Canyon fork, but it was longer and a couple of us were concerned about making it to the next gas station.

By the way, you should check out Racetechs website. They are good with Japanese suspension and probably carry springs for your shocks and forks and cartridge emulators for your forks. They also have a spring rate calculator on their website although you have a little extra weight problem thrown in there in the form of your honkin' gas tank. I am good at calculating spring rates too, so if you need help, I can get out my little calculator and punch up some numbers based on things such as machine base weight, lever ratio, your weight and what your honkin gas tank adds in to the factor. Fork oil levels can affect your ride too. Then you just have to set all to a specific preload to achieve your unladen sag (you not on bike) and laden sag(you on bike). Proper sag is terribly important. It isn't all rocket science but it is all math. I had to research and learn all this stuff because of all the bad advice so-called experts were giving me.

I had the same problems with premature failures on my Ohlins shock. After I found another shop to service my shock other than Precision Concepts, my reliability issues went away. what shop did you go to? By the way, I went to Precision Concepts in El Cajon after I switched out my fork and shock springs so that they could revalve everything to match. They were quick and thorough and turned around a good product fast but the girl at the front desk I found to be very condescending. She treated me like I was some kind of dumb bell and didn't listen to anything I had to say. She was RUDE, I thought. I would consider going back to Precision Concepts for other valving work, but I would try the one in Temecula next. I work on my own suspension, change out springs, oil, seals, seal heads, set the sag etc., and have personally revalved two of my Japanese machines. I am not going to pretend that I know as much as those guys, but I know a little bit, it works for me and I don't cotton to being treated like a dope.
  8. Gosh Papaalex, you still haven't gotten enough sand in your bloomers? I will see how things are shaping up for me this Saturday. But it is a long drive to Ocotillo for me.

If you replace it with a Husky you will need to have 5 bikes like she does. Thats no solution! Somebody can't count But getting back to the thread, maybe Papaalex could help you. He did lots of stuff to his DR650 and probably could tell you some tips. Maybe you should PM him.
  11. I just got back from riding at Elsinore MX park. I took Fleazilla out to ride some MX stuff. I haven't been on a motocross track in twentytwo years. I haven't been on a CR85....ever ! I found out riding a minibike is way different than riding a big bike. You don't want to move around at all when you are in the air or you might do some unplanned tricks or dismount . I chose the vet track for my ride, but was really tense and slow, so I went over to the mini track to warm up. Then after a few laps I headed back to the vet track and spied just what I was looking for; a big slow guy on a 450 . I waited for him to go by and then I jumped in behind him, followed him for a couple of laps and passed him. But he didn't try to pass me back so I had to pull off the track and wait for him to go by, so I could pass him again. I did this a couple of times, much to his irritation I suppose because he soon quit riding. Then I was left with the faster guys. They all managed to pass me, but not as quickly as in the beginning of my ride. And I got to follow alot of them for a while after they passed, so that was fun. If I had ridden longer, I might have gotten faster still as I got used to the little shrieking machine. The springs may be too soft. Even though I am not the fastest thing in the world on it, the bike is using almost all of its travel. I might start by tweaking the compression damping up a teeny bit and see if that helps. If I get faster I will probably bottom the little sucker  as settings go right now. I had such a good time, I might take out my KTM some time. And I can't wait to try Amago with SDAR alumni. Anyway, riding the Flea brought back fond memories of old MX days. And now for a picture of me with a tree growing out of my helmet Along with a shot of the old days of course.

    Weekday MX

Well I wear size 6 boot. I suppose a pair of them equals one 12 What's a girl to do? Other women go out on the town and buy lots of evening and party dresses. I basically go riding, so I have a clothes rack full of nice outfits for every riding occasion

Just replace your suspension with a Husqvarna
  14. Love to ride with you. Right now I am off to learn what kind of damage I can do to myself on a minibike at an MX park. Film at eleven
  15. Mr. KL, my post stated I gotz too much werkz to do. I don't need a ride; I need a different line of work, other than retail, like maybe being a millionaire, but I don't see any job postings for that position . My bosses frown on 24 hour weekend flu, especially for their managers My bosses usually frown on me anyway
  16. Can't say that the ride doesn't sound wonderful because it does sound wonderful. I would love to go, but it's a long drive to Barstow after working the night before and a long drive back and then going to work in the morning. It's just too long a day. Or is it two days? In which case I couldn't go anyway. Hope you have lots of fun and post a report with pretty pictures for those us us who didn't get to see the ride firsthand

    Thanks!

    :ok: It's all good!
  18. Sounds like fun. I don't know where you parked your truck, but I always manage to get way out of sight of my car. I know all the fun little single tracks in the immediate green sticker area and then some near the end of the road that can be ridden legally if you have a plated bike. If anybody wants to go on a Wednsday to McCain or anywhere else for that matter, just PM me or post or send a smoke signal-no wait don't do that till we get more rain.
  19. Papaalexs' sand ride was a great success. Besides Papa hisself, only Joliet and I showed up for this fun and long day of mostly dirt riding. The rest of you mugs missed out on a great adventure . I managed to wake up in time to make it on time and rolled in across from the Blu Inn a little early, to find Joliet unloading his KTM. Shortly thereafter, Alex arrived. Not too many people were out there and the day started off fairly cool and windy. It was so cool and windy that at the start of the ride I was thinking that maybe it was a mistake to wear vented gear and I put on a windbreaker, which I would be removing at the first rest stop. The day warmed up considerably in the lower part of the desert, got cooler in the upper part and was almost chilly riding near Julian. All in all, good weather though. We started out riding southwest in San Felipe Wash and then cutting north for a short bit till we reached the train tracks. We followed those north to Split Mountain road, took that east for a short stretch and cut northwest again on a dirt trail that took us through some picturesqe mud canyons. We had to go up this honking sand hill,(turns out, that was Diablo) where I managed to bury the rear tire of my TE450 pretty good. Joliet came down and gave it a run up, but the Husqvarna gave him a tought time as well, with its quick revving motor and piddly 120/90 Dunlop 606 that I had recently fitted to it. With a certain amount of difficulty he goaded the machine to the top and we proceded. From there it was off to another canyon and time for some spelunking. We parked near an inconspicous indent in the canyon wall which turned out to be the entrance to a mud cave. All three of us started in, but it was pitch black and limited space. I went back out to get a small flashlight and Alex followed to get himself some lunch out of his pack. Meanwhile Joliet forged on in the darkness, only to bonk himself in the head on a rock that was hanging down at about face height from the cave wall. The floor was uneven as well, making for tough going. I returned with the p-ant sized light just in time to hear him holler out "Ow" and shine the light at the offending rock. We continued on for a short while till the tunnel ended in a roundish chamber that had a small hole way up in the ceiling which let in a faint bit of sunlight. It was nice and cool in the cave. After we came out of the first cave Joliet went to scout some other holes in the walls, while I joined Alex by the bikes for a snack. Joliet didn't find anything as interesting as the cave we were just in and it was probably the warmest part of the day at this point, so we moved on, heading west to the pavement and the next leg of our adventure, Rodriguez Canyon. That was probably the nastiest sand we encountered for the day at the start of Orriflame, but once we started up Rodriguez, we got our fill of rocks and had plenty of fun with that. By the time we reached the Banner store it was time for us people with little gas tanks to refill as we had covered about 70 miles so far. We rode to the closest fuel which was in Julian, topped off and headed for our next dirt leg on Grapevine Canyon Road. By the time we hit Jasper Trail, I was starting to get tired and wasn't riding so hot. My blisters had blisters and my behind was busted from spending too much time on a TE saddle. When we got to Borrego Springs, we stopped at the little park and made our final route plans. There, I consumed a melted energy bar, freshened up a bit and rode through a couple of the sprinklers that were going. Then it was off to a wash, presumably the east part of San Felipe, but I don't think that is what it was. We hit alot more sand and some whoopdedoos at this point and the going got fast. Refreshed from the last rest stop and looking forward to getting back to the cars, I really enjoyed this part of the ride. The mighty Husqvarna just flew down the washes, taking rocks, sand, ledges and turns with all the ease a person could wish for out of a desert steed. We finally hit San Felipe Wash. It was here that Joliet ran out of gas. He did the tip-your-bike-over thing a couple of times and kept going. On the third tip, there was nothing but fumes, so it was time to pull in to Papaalexs' gas station for a fill. We were less than 5 miles from our vehicles by then, so three cruddy beercanfuls of fuel later, we were on our way. It was about 5:00 pm when the cars came into view and we had put a little over 145 miles on our dust encrusted odometers. I had just enough time left to haul buns up to Julian and pick up an apple cherry pie before going home and collapsing for the evening. Aahh, what a great day Now for some photos

Ahhhh. Now that looks nice and refreshing Now just keep praying for rain.
  23. Looks like I am going on the sand ride. Poor lil street bike will sit in the garage and twiddle his thumbs one more weekend.
  24. Also team KTM is probably attracted to all the orange coloring at the store. They probably think that Home Depot is their mommy
