  1. Anybody else I'd say no but I feel pretty confident you could.
  2. Looks like the group can only do a weekend to start the year so we are doing a quick Saturday to Mikes and back on Sunday trip. so if anyone wants to join let me know. It's planned to be 95% dirt.
  3. Just let me know what works for you. I need a few weeks advance notice to smooth it out with the wife and put in for vacation. Usually early in the month is best. 3 days is good for mikes-san felipe or erendira-mikes. to go any farther south like san quitin or gonzaga bay usually four days. I'd like to do a trip for the New Year but it doesn't have to be the 2nd through the 6th. It can be shorter but that's what i have open.
  4. I might be going there to check it out. Maybe go in through pino blanco.
  5. OK here is the ride report from the CRT trip to San Felipe and beyond. Day one (Thursday) we meet at the Tecate border lot. Tim and Mike are running a little late but we cross by 7:30am. Four in the group- Tim, Mike, Steve, and myself (we are short a couple regulars from the group that is why we don’t have many pictures). We are flying through the roads- Compadre trail to a section that goes through Jamul and ends on the goat trail that comes out on hwy 3 right above Valle Trinidad. Stop for a little lunch and everyone is feeling good we are making great time. We head off on our final leg into San Felipe (at this rate we should be there by 3:30pm). We cut into the wash that leads to the dry lake bed and stop to open a gate and make sure everyone is fine. We head out from there. It is a bit dusty so spacing between riders is best. We get across the dry lake bed to our normal re-grouping spot and there are only three of us- Tim, Myself, and Steve. We can’t see any dust coming up from behind so Tim takes off to look for Mike. Me and Steve watch Tim’s dust cloud as he leaves but as he continues past the lake bed we figure we better head back as well since, it seems Mike is probably farther back then we would like. We get to a few hundred yards from where we had original started and notice Mike going by at super slow speed. Tim tells us he found Mike struggling to get back up as he had gotten caught by a branch and cased his bike into a tree thus compressing his vertebrae with the entire load we are carrying in our back packs. He was down for almost an hour before we were able to back track to his location. He took four alieve and a vicodine that I carry for such occasions and was able to ride into San Felipe with Tim carrying his back pack between his legs thus it made for a slow ride but we got there shortly after dark. Tim and Mike stopped at the Pharmacia for a few pain killers and muscle relaxers to hopefully get him lose enough to ride back on Sunday. Myself and Steve took off for Puertocitos Friday morning as Tim decided to stay behind to keep Mike company. We didn’t have any tracks we were to follow. It was more exploratory then anything. We ended up taking some of the beach and exploring through a wash strewn with cactus and rocks. We ended up with a little more highway then we would have liked but it was a fun trip. We stopped at the cow patty for lunch and a few cervezas and gassed up at the Pemex in puertocitos. There is not much in town but some houses, the cow patty, and the Pemex. Beautiful view of the ocean and nice little port though. On the way back to San Felipe we agree for alt routes to the inland side as I’ve located on the GPS. The first trail was pretty awesome. Zigzagging through desert land and washes but the second trail that brought us back to the highway wasn’t so good. It was about 20 miles of old race course that was nothing but whoops. So, I know another trail to cross of my list. While on the trail I tried to make a sharp turn off it as there was a downed ocotillo branch that I didn’t want to run over for fear of a punctured tire. My bike washed out and ended up getting poked by both bar ends once in the stomach and once in the groin that left a couple nice bruises but nothing I couldn’t overcome. We got back to San Felipe around 4pm showered, and headed to town for dinner then called it a night. The third day was strictly relaxation hanging out recovering for the ride home on Sunday thus it was an early night. Sunday everyone is up early (6am) as we are getting ready for the ride back. Mike will take the highway and meet us where the wash comes out across the dry lake bed. We all meet up without any incidents and had a little breakfast in Valle T. Mike and Tim took the hwy to Compadre but myself and Steve decide we wanted to try more of a dirt route. We take the exit to Jamul and try to find ways around the baja 1000 course as we are heading the opposite way of the course. After not having much luck and myself almost getting hit by a race buggy we decide it’s best to turn around and run the highway. We made it back to the border to find Tim and Mike were already backed and gone ahead of us thus everyone had returned safely ready for the next trip back to Baja.

    Voters in El Cajon

Many of you know (maybe seen the photos from the offroad night) I am running for City Council in El Cajon. There may be many new members that I haven't a chance to meet yet. I missed this years desert dash as I was between bikes. But, now I have a new KTM in the garge ready to roll once it cools down a bit. I also plan a few rides down in baja each year. I hope to get out and ride a little more once the campaign is over but come November remember to vote for Duane Swainston for El Cajon City Council. Also, I have a dinner coming up Friday 8/24 at the El Cajon Brewery. If anyone would like to attend, message me and I'll give you the details. Randy- I hope I'm not out of line with forum rules on the post and If it needs to be deleted feel free.

Thanks guys. I have put in a lot of work but now its all up to the voters. And Thursday off to baja for some chillaxing and dirt riding.
  10. No doubt that's compadre trail.
  11. Looks to be about 5 of us at this point. 4 on bikes and one in the chase hummer. There is room for one in the chase vehicle and always room for more bikes. If anyone is considering let me know.
  12. There has been some hesitation from the boys about getting Wednesday the 7th off work so unless they can get the extra time of it may turn into leaving Thursday to Mikes then Friday and Saturday in San Felipe and heading back home on Sunday. I'd prefer to go to Gonzaga Bay but that might not happen.
  13. I voted no on both. This is a forum board for discussions and personally I don't mind hearing other peoples "opinions" and It does give you an idea of the person you may be riding with one day. If you don't want to be involved in the discussion it is easy to avoid, you don't have to click on the topic.
  14. The OTB race club is looking for volunteers to help with check points at our race on Oct 7th. Is anyone interested? The group will be camping down there (Ocotillo, off wheeler rd.) starting on Friday through Sunday. So, if you wanted to get some riding in and stay the weekend and hang with a great group that would be cool. Or, if you can just go for the day to help that would be great also.

    where to retire?

I think about this topic a bit but then I realize everything could change by the time I'm ready to retire. Right now Prescott does looks good as I am partial to mountains such as northern Arizona, New Mexico, or even Montana but I don't think my wife could handle the winters full time. When I get ready to retire my house should be paid off and where I decide to spend my available time will probablly depend on where my kids find work and end up living. I'm sure my wife would like to be around the grandkids when that eventually happens (no rush yet). But I figure a nice lot that I can pull up in a motorhome or stage a trailer. Somewhere I could ride, hunt, and fish would be great with my home base always being San Diego.

    Hi I'm Leeland Yee

I just heard that this bill is dead for this year as it will not be heard on Thursday. All the efforts by various groups have paid off for a year at least.

    Sunday Aug 12

Is everyybody still on board with this? If not I guess I'll ride out my garage in El Cajon through lakeside up viejas truck trail to Pine Valley creak road, to thing valley road and back through pine valley to home or maybe turn south through Potrero/border for some exploring. Hope that doesn't make me a high jacker.
