I have loved commercial aviation since about age 5, and even got part way to my private pilots license (I have about 24 flight hours, about two of which are solo). I can't wait to begin Dual Sporting.

I sure wish I could ride with ya carguy, but soon enough........ :DGod Bless
-
Carguy, as we know by now, I'm still a long way from getting my bike and getting on the trail (blah blah blah, broken record) but none the less, that looks like you guys had a wonderful day. I so wish I could have been there. Whether I'm "on the trail" yet or not, I deffinately want to be at the next BBQ. (I missed this one as I was on an allready planned camping trip with Family and Friends).Oh, and by the way, did you guys get in any riding before the BBQ???God Bless

2wheels, although we all know I'm a long way from having my bike and I'm just beginning to get into dual sporting, your last post is EXACTLY one of the reasons I so want to be a part of this great sport. I really wish I could go see this place with ya. I am very much a lover of San Diego history, and this place you mentioned sounds like it may have a lot of history to it. If I could, I'd so be there with ya this morning

Guys, even though I don't have my bike yet, and haven't even starting riding yet, I would sooooooooooo be there. My motivation for getting into dual sport is SKY HIGH!!!!!!!! I just don't have the finances quite yet to get into it. But I think all you have done, and all you have planed, is awesome, and just motivates me further to get into dual sport. I would really feel a bit out of place with no bike and no experience yet, but if I didn't allready have plans this weekend, I would SO be there. Beer and a homemade hot tub....what more could you ask for (okay, I could ask for the chance to ride, but I have to wait for a while for that LOL)Give me a heads up, even privately at aviationlover1@aol.com, on the next get together, and if a newbie who doesn't even have his bike yet is welcome, I will be there.

Guys, first off, I again want to thank everyone for your great replies and for all the help you've provided me. I know it's public knowledge that I won't be getting my bike till May (due to finacial reasons), but of course by now it's also public knowledge that I just can't wait to get involved in dual sporting. That said, I have a question. As you know by now, I'm probably gonna be getting a DRZ-400S, and I have a concern I'm hoping you guys can help me to be "less concerned about" so to speak. I know you're only option for starting is an electric start, which sounds great to me, but I'm worried about not having the kicker back up. Is this a silly thing to worry about????? I ask because I've heard "bump starting", I believe it's called, a 4 stroke is less than easy Thanx all, and God Bless

Everyone. On the Kawasaki website, it says the KLX 250S isn't available in California. Anyone know if this is still true, and why (I know it has to be some screwed up EPA thing or something. I absolutely love San Diego, but man I really dislike living in California sometimes)God Bless
-
Carguy, I will be camping, but eventually I will meet you all. I know I won't be getting my bike till next May, but hope to meet and ride with you all before getting my bike if that somehow works out. If I have to wait till May it will drive me nuts Hope you all have a great BBQ. God Bless

No kidding. I'll have to check that out. I wonder if they have a website???
-
Ha ha, you're probably right there. And shaving the seat foam is something I've been hearing about and thinking about trying, though I hear the DRZ seat isn't the most comfortable on long rides, and I'm worried that shaving it down will only make it worse. Also, isn't there a bit of manual adjusting that can be done to the suspesion? And another theory I have is the bike I sat on was brand new at the dealer (Quinsey Power Sports) and I would guess the suspesion would break in and drop a bit as the bike gets ridden.

Thanx 2wheels. Yeah, the heaviness of the bike worries me, plus, I can only touch the ground with toes when centered on the seat. But, on the Thumpber Talk forum, I have had lot's of repllies to this same question, and I think EVERY one of them says to go with the DRZ-400S.Thanx again, and God Bless

Hey wheels, thanx for the great info. I'll look into it!!!

I am in the beginning stages of entering the world of dual sport riding, something I've been wanting to do for many years. I have been researching bikes, and researching, and researching (notice a pattern here LOL) and I have narrowed it down to the DRZ-400S and the KLX-250S. I am 32 years old, about 175LBS, and 5'-9". I am leaning towards the DRZ, but I went to see it the other day and sat on it for the first time. It felt a bit heavy (remember, I'm brand new to this. Haven't ridden in almost 20 years, since I was a kid.) Also, on the DRZ, when centered on the seat, I can only get toes on the ground. But I do love the bike. As far as the KLX goes, It sounds like a great bike, but I haven't seen it / sat on it yet. But I know it would be lighter and I would be able to plant my feet on the ground.....I think. With the DRZ I'm worried about the weight and the seat height. With the KLX, I'm worried it will be great as a beginner bike, but after six months or a year I'll wish I had gotten a 400, and at that point it won't matter as I'll be stuck with a 250. Any help or advice any of you can give me would be so much apprciated. God BlessJason

Carguy, this is where/who I will be getting my lessons from. I hope he's great. Seems like a really great guy!! DMV Test bike

Hey Carguy. That sounds great. If you haven't read my post yet, I'm new to the site, and VERY new to the sport. I probably won't even have my bike till next May, but I'm starting my involvement in the sport now as I just can't wait!!!! Gonna be getting my learners permit next week, and taking a three hour beginners class in the next three or four weeks. So, is the BBQ open to an "extrememely new" newbie such as myself????

Rob,That's awesome man. I look forward to meeting you. I flew from 98-99. Have 24 flight hours in the C-150, about 2 hours of which are solo time, but then got married (that's now ended) and that was it for flying. But my true love is commercial aviation!!!! and soon to be Dual Sport riding
