  1. After trying to introduce myself to some of the group identified as RSDWR, I realized it didn't flow off the tounge, even in shortened form. Wassup R??? Not.

    Strega....now that's catchy.

    ShocknAwe...very catchy.

TrophyHunter....not as catchy but easier to say. Stems from somebody's advise to go after some dusty stored trophies in the SDAR (fictional) storage locker. Anyone who saw me floundering in the 5 miles of sandwash at TH might dig thru and pick out a nice T-Ball effigy.

  2. I ran into one of the BF Goodrich support crew this morning at Starbucks. He was headed south with 3 rigs crossing later to assist with their 4 pits. He told me they were escorted from TJ south last year by the Federales (about 10) who demanded T-Shirts & hats when they arrived at their destination.

A small price to pay for the armed escort that one unfortunately needs but the "fee" wasn't very voluntary as he described it.

We get safety updates on border issues at work regularly and you couldn't pay me enough to go south.

  3. Hey Fake.....if ur fingers are calibrated for Yamaha's, I'd like to borrow them sometime. I'll trade u for my elbow which is set at 33 lb ft from my aircraft mechanic days. Not near as accurate as Randy's eye :D but good in a pinch.

Actually...good info all around. And it took me 3 times reading that article to see the click HERE for a full photo of the mechanic. :D

  4. For "standard stuff", I've had good luck figuring everything out on DMV's website & mailing it in. They have calculators for transactions and the forms can be filled out on line and printed off. Any verification needed can be done by any cop so a trip to the local station may be quicker.

No line and if you miss something they just send it back with a "fix this" note.

If you have to go to the DMV....Escondido or Poway are quick.

  5. Proudly unfurled THE Flag today.

    6 Years USAF

Son - Army - initial wave from Kuwait - 13 months in Iraq, now Marine

    Son-in-law - Marine - 3 in Iraq, 1 in Afghanistan

I feel fortunate and blessed to even be able to be on a forum like this planning rides in Our Great Country!

  6. This seemed like the most likely place to put this. Correct me if I'm wrong.....

After reading all of the posts on GPS and leaving printouts around my house (what, with Christmas coming and all), my wife directed me to Best Buy today. Hmmmm.

I don't know if Garmin makes a special run for them but theirs comes with a 128 MB card instead of the 64 on Garmin's site and other online retailers. I don't know if this is going to matter based on some of the mapping software needs. Since I am completely new to GPS, some help would be appreciated to complete my gift wish list.

I have the software recommendations....is a 2G card the way to go?

Also, Best Buy price matched WalMart online and we went out the door for $299. No tax. It's the GPSMAP 60CSx bundle with the Mapsource Trip & Waypoint software.

    Suggestions for the list....fire away.

    Thanks!

  7. Three things I learned today:

    1. It is impossible to tell what the wind is doing in OW from El Cajon. I shoulda jumped on the computer before my delightful morning drive. Now all of you can point at my wife's bumper sticker that ends in "...and my husband is their king"

    2. The cafe at Santa Ysabel opens at 8 and has a good breakfast buffet including a guy making omelets.

    3. It's okay to eat an extra burrito once in a while so you won't freeze when it's hailing on you at Pine Valley/CC.

I met Schwinn & sons at PV after checking the computer once I returned from my version of the desert dash.

It was 47 degrees when we launched, blowing and occasionally raining. The traction was great due to the ongoing rain and we made the Kernan trailhead with smiles all around. Hint: if your son's hands are cold, they tend to hug the exhaust every time you stop. Both of Schwinn's younger generation did a great job, especially condsidering one of them just switched to bikes from quads.

Kernan to 4 corners was muddy but good traction. Blowing cold rain coming in horizontally added to the challenge. Quite a few people (known to Schwinn) at 4 corners but we all went our separate ways. Took the spur meadow trail to Los Pinos Rd to the tower. Norm (nor anyone else) was home and we watched the clouds hurl by shielded by the equipment building. Basically the same route back arriving just in time to see the temp jump to 48.

All in all a great time!

  8. I had the priviledge and honor to work the fires. From evacuations to looting patrols to bringing people stuck outside the fire their only surviving box of personal belonging...unfortunately accompanied by bad news.

Our office made a compilation CD of photos from inside the fire zone which I can probably get a copy of for whoever wants them. Probably $2-3 a piece. Maybe free, I just have to check.

If anyone is interested, notify me and I'll check into it.

The Navy helicopter crews kicked some serious &%$. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hno-3k1K0qs
