Happy Birthday Johnybags -- Heal up Quick !

Saw the pics on FB - not fun. Still, with all that.....Enjoy your day!
  3. I pulled around the corner to see 10 vehicles at the tree already. 8:45, 42 degrees. Rob arrived with his new KTM 350! Just what this kid needs. Great day of riding with one tree head butt (me) and both of us sampling the local plant life avoiding a head on with 2 KTM's. The re-worked suspension (THANKS George!!) really performed well and I pushed it a bit. My payoff was a slight overshoot on a downhill corner, then an attempt to push through the brush with the right side of the bar. No go. Bike stopped and fat old guy plus gravity ensued. 3 rolls later, I climbed back up, got the bike un-prone, and surveyed. Nothing major, continue on. The caravan of rigs coming back from the desert stretched from the Border Patrol checkpoint back to Buckman Springs Rd - where I existed - with 50 other people - to bypass the congestion. Not bad, overall. Great dirt, still moist, a bit crowded but a worthwhile trail ride! Thx for posting up, Rob.

    Lark OHV

Rob had a GoPro runnin'. We'll see if anything shows up. I was behind him on the crash but ahead of him on the tree head butt.
  5. See, the classy people just glossed right over that........ Big dumb softball, just hangin' out there in mid-air.
  6. 9:15 ready to ride at the tree?
  7. Rob, what time where you thinking? it's gonna be 32 at 8 AM.
  8. So nice she is willing to do that trip. My wife has a very limited 2 up endurance. Got to see some stuff, had an adventure, still smilin'. Good deal.

    Xr650r mikuni tm-40

To your point, Jim Martin, at Martin Motorsports in Santee, rides an XR650R so may be able to dial it in for you.

I'm sure you probably covered this in your attempts, but if not, I made sure I rode the bike to operating temps and took a screw driver along for the idle adjustment once warmed up. All the way in, then back out until it stumbles, in a half turn. I was 1 1/2 turns out on my DR650 for a good idle. This assumes the proper sizing based on airbox (mods), filter type, exhaust mods, etc. If it's a used carb, there may be other wear parts on it that need replacing. I'm no expert, just a bumbling garage mechanic.

    Car Smog Question

You mentioned injector cleaners - "dump a bottle in the tank" kind? I did the "direct into the fuel line just prior to the injector" kind on a 240SX I had and it was a noticeable performance difference. Don't know how that affects smog reads, though.

    Moving

You may have already explored this, but maybe a one way rental on a trailer or dolly? Also, ask them to check around for the best "return" lot near your destination. Some lots are overstocked on certain items so they charge more to drop things there. I saved about 25% on a one way car trailer by dropping it 10 miles from my house instead of 4 due to the above. I imagine any one way rental would offset the gas needed to drag the extra weight of your trailer up there....?
  15. Ditto. Very generous of George and the rest making this happen.

    11/7 big bike ride

No problem - moved. Yeah, post up and I'll get some miles on the Tiger. I sort of kept up with the discussion in the other thread but my weekend went a different direction. Some of my favorite areas there.

    New bike extended warranty

My experience has been that the ones from the dealer are a separate company anyway. I also found them to be extremely negotiable....as in 30% of their stated cost. I haven't had any claims against the policies I've purchased so can't answer that side of it.

    Big Bikes Noob

I drove to Salt Lake City to get this one....a deal that could not be passed up. I'll work on the discount code. AMA # gets you 10% but it has to match your address so it's by individual, not an overall code.
  20. Yup. Had a WR400 for a bit. Also had an '83 IT490....before the WR switchover.

Welcome aboard!
