    The 690 Loop

Appears we get to ride Thursday as I have one partner joining me @ 0900 Tamarisk Grove Campground. Hwy S3 (Yaqui Pass Rd) just north of Hwy 78. No permit required, restroom over the fence. An inch or more of rain in the lower Dez and temps 70-80F could make for ideal conditions. Beez, sorry to hear you are still healing. Klxguy, see you in the AM. Julian Coffee is my usual stop off on the way down, hope to get there 0830. Next to the gas station, south end of town.

Mr. Lewis appears to be organized.

    The 690 Loop

Sorry,, Link corrected. The Google Map link is my Greater Borrego Waypoint map, not a Track. Check out the left column for the location you want to locate and click. Follow the description of places we will intersect and you will have the idea. I don't do many Tracks because, don't know where I'm going next!
  5. Chris, Looking at the 100% Finishers sheet is interesting: Many large motors chosen by finishers. Would be interesting to know the bikes of the DNFers Of course we all know it is the bike not the rider So this was a Dual Sport Camping Trip..Were there sustained high speed sections that the big motors would actually be an advantage?? How many of those dudes and dudettes felt comfy in the sand? And you took time for pictures. Well Done Grasshopper
  6. http://www.motorcycl...kar-Gloves.aspx Klim Dakar , MotoMax sells them for About $32 , 7245 El Cajon Blvd. SD 619-469-6255 Hey, these fit perfect, no blisters. I can't wear mine out, used them for a full season. Just washed them out with a hose and ready for season two.

    Garmin Zumo 550, $599 @ Costco & Amazon

Other than touch screen, what functions will the Zumo perform vs the 60csx. The first issue to me would be antenna performance. FakeN, I see you use both at the same time. Is that just for the XM? e.g. Tracks, waypoints, Topo maping. The larger screen would be nice. The sixty series just upgraded to 62 with more memory and better screen, supposedly. No doubt a larger, clearer screen would help the 60 system.
  8. The photo tells us a good deal. Sticky traction...Pumpkins in the trail...moving from bright light to dark...Big rocks at exit Here's hoping it all ended well.

    C daddy and rog

Imagine being penalized for stopping to take a few pictures to remember the event! How unfair is that??
  10. Lucky Guys! Thanks for taking the time to record the travels.
  11. Captcham wanted to test his new bike transporter ( receiver jack type carrier ),, plus his buddy Jeff wanted to see new territory...so we hit the trail headed north out of Ramona. Wondering around, we eventually moved up Iron Spring Canyon and back via Palomar Divide. And I promised to be back by one or two!! This ride always takes longer than you would think. My wife was understanding, how about yours Capt'n? Good company gents PS, Signs of a little moisture on the land finally.

  14. Deb, I haven't been ignoring your question, but thinking of how to respond. In my view, it is not so much "what camera" as what technique. A. Put the sun behind you. B. Zoom in and out to frame the shot. C. Search for angles other than typical eye level view. D. Inspiration happens! Follow your emotions. Check out http://www.dpreview.com/ Here you will find Learn Tabs and camera Reviews and Forums.

    Losing My Grip

Ugh, Tire Tread. I should have known better! The issue with me is Trials vs all other tires. Not brand wars. With the 300+lb bike I am dealing with an obvious true Dual Sport, not a race bike. Hey, it is all a learning experience for me, and fun to try to tell the difference between tire patterns. Tooth Puller, Coyote Mtn will be fun. Went up there last season with Rad and his pals. Never found the Top-Top. Looks like a few different approaches. October, when it has cooled +1. You and B have done some serious exploration. I would enjoy learning the Way of the Masters.
  19. Broke In a new set of MT41s today. After two sets of MT43s they are a step backward in terms of traction on hard and rocky surfaces. But we knew that didn't we. So why did I make the change?? Winter brings Sand. As of today, no one has suggested the Trials treads work in the sand. Well, except one character who rides small displacement motos...everywhere. Did a few short miles near Pioneer Mail Trailhead to get the Old feeling back before a trip to the mountains of central Nevada. Report is deep sand and or silt. Didn't want to experiment with trials tire in a new area. To the point - On the hard two track, it feels like I've Lost 20-25% of the traction to which I have become accustomed. Lot more steering going on from the rear! I.E. early breaking loose. I can tell at some point a side by side Sand Traction Test is in the offing. If and when the MT43 becomes acceptable in the sand, it would be the perfect tire. Until then, it's Winter or Summer decisions.
  20. George, That is a Trail Tech X2 Halogen setup. List price is $99, Moto Max in La Mesa sold it for $93 Good Luck, It is a big improvement over stock, but nothing like a real streetbike light.

    Next Maintenance Gathering September 26th

Ken And Laura - You are Champions, for having this crowd over to the house. I am keeping my eye on Craig's List for the bike stand I left in the driveway, I wonder how high the bid will be before I pick it up tomorrow. A pleasure to talk to all...and watch CDy change two tires from behind the view of a brew in hand. Nice Club, we ought to keep it goin'
  22. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=622851 As an example of the diversity over at that Other site. It's not all lattes and Roadhouse Grill. PS, I wish I could afford one of those little Toy single Track Bikes.
