    62Csx

Checked out the 62Csx this week at REI: Screen is much better in terms of viewing angle and glare. Software is totally " new and improved " Response to inputs is much faster. Unclear as to whether the loaded 100,000 scale Topo files are updated vs the older CD Files. Power via USB, which is fine by me because there is a cigarette power cord avaiable that can be adapted to bike power. As far as I see, no one is making a RAM cradle today. $$$
  2. McTrails, Thanks for leading the effort. Did you see the note about the permit in the bucket?
  3. Planning on working Saturday morning. Meeting at Corral Campground 0900. For those of you that have worked the trails: Is it best to plan on walking the routes with tools or carry stuff on the bike. I am guessing light boots and long sleeves / big hat, gloves are the order of the day?? Leave the body armor at the truck and travel light, except for trimming tools? I rarely ride the area and don't know the trails. Is there a downloadable map? See you there, I'm hoping to see the new Ranger Trail. My number is in the Members Area.

60CSx on sale at Costco online for $199

DD, The 60Csx - Makes Tracks, accepts Tracks. Obviously you can follow Tracks once they are in your machine. Additional Software is needed and a Major expense. City Navigator $100 - Produces turn by turn prompts directing you along the way. Topo Maps $100 - Provides elevation information as well as routes ( some not included in CN ) If I had to choose one or the other and did not use the unit on pavement, I would choose Topo. But.. you give up the ability to locate gas, stores, lodging which could be a big deal in some situations. City Nav is a big help travelling in the car to new states, etc. Topo and CN are avail at discount The 60Csx is considered a Hiking unit by Garmin. Many of there other units don't do Tracks and Back Track. People correct me if I am wrong. Bite the bullet, you will never go back to the Non-GPS world.
  5. "I don't know anybody that voted for Brown or Boxer." Pasta Yes you do! A big reason I enjoy the Moto community, is that it exposes me to diverse opinions I would not otherwise be exposed. I enjoy getting outside my personal echo chamber. Question - Are company profits the primary goal of our country??
  6. Captcham, Great idea. I am looking forward to a terrific weekend. The location enables access to numerous routes with minimum pavement. Pinyon - Grapevine - Oriflamme. The calendar shows this to be a full moon weekend. I will warm-up the camp chair.
  7. Hey, anyone can do Heart Attack on Two wheels. Josh, Good Luck fishin' I look forward to resuming our mid-week romps on your return.
  8. Glen, Please take me off the list. Too much on the schedule these days. Thanks for taking the time to host the ride.
  9. "Hopefully the weather is just as good tomorrow and Sunday." Oh yea, we left a few good turns out there for you. Temps will be 10d cooler. I would be out again Sunday but...the family calls. Have fun making up for working on the BD!
  10. http://maps.google.c...022724&t=h&z=16 Edit: Ride happening Thursday AM 0900 at Trailhead. Estimate 75-80 miles Thinking that the washes could be free of mud by now. I am tied up Saturday so Wednesday or Thursday would be nice for me. Pinyon Trailhead is across Hwy S-2 from the Stagecoach Resort, a mile or two south of Hwy 78. Intermediate Ride - Pinyon Drop / Squeeze, deep sand washes. Tubes - Tools - Snacks - Agua My thought is to travel Pinyon Mountain Valley to Hapaha Flat, Upper Fish Creek, Middle Mesa /Arroyo Seca del Diablo, Vallecito Creek north, maybe June Wash. S-2 back north to trucks. Trucks 2-3:00PM. Anyone Free?? Klxguy?
  11. You two keep working at it, and you will achieve the Skill and Daring of those two fine riders. Big 30, Ha! Sorry you get to work, but man, be Happy you are 30. Really!
  12. isde97, This ride has been done on a 990, Ask me how I know. But it is not appropriate for you if this is your first trip down a deep sandwash. Some on big bikes have been intimidated by these long sandy washes. A couple of 12' rock steps ( up and down ), Significant slippery drop and climb. Please be prepared to change your flat etc. That said, if you have the confidence I will be happy to see you on the trail. I am not attempting to discourage, just giving you info to make your decision. Some photos as example:
  13. "Ready to ride at 0900?" Well..Let's say Trailhead by 0900 ready to ride 0930. I can be there earlier if someone needs to get back in the PM. An hour and a half from La Mesa, plus a coffee stop in Julian means a relaxed 7:30 start for me. Which I likey. hobiee and Klxguy, glad to have you In. Temps seem to be about what we are having here in town, which is fab. Should be cool to see any changes from earthquakes and rain since last season. Bring radios if you have them. 146.505
  14. OK, no ride Wednesday. Maybe Thursday, stay tuned.
  15. FN, And where did your 3rd grade teacher seat you in class??

Park outside Tamarisk Grove Campground ( no fees ) Arrive 0900 Depart 0930. Clockwise Loop - Grapevine Cyn, Jasper TT, Old Culp Valley Rd. Borrego Sp, Inspiration PT, Truckhaven Trail, Thimble Trail south to Vista del Malpais, Fault Wash, Cut Across, San Felipe, Old Borrego Pole Line Rd, and return to Tamarisk Grove. Intermediate skill level because of massive sand washes. Bring your lunch, tools & tubes. Return to trucks about 1400hrs. Anyone free??
