  1. Spyder, Thanks, we hit the spring bloom perfect. Rain just days before our arrival. The Capt'n and I had a good time out there in the BLM camp east of Kanab,,,with the Green cans. Things got Magical, he even turned into an Elk!.
  2. Chris, Those folks at Bar 10 are Top Notch. We arrived about 1:00PM just as a bus-load from the airport in shorts showed. And, 13 bike riders we had been leap frogging all day. Luckily, we got the Wrangler (on a Quad) to dispense fuel Before the Overnight 13. Cus we had miles to go to Toroweap. Sure would have been nice to catch a shower and grub but the Camping at Toroweap is Not to be missed! Thanks again for sharing tracks. There were many turns along the way from Mesquite that would have taken awhile to sort. Funny Story: So Steve and I are Leap Frogging 13 moto riders out of the Bay Area USING YOUR TRACKS. You give those to anyone! Nice gents really. There was a guy with Every conceivable farkle possible on his 690. British front fuel like Hoss, windscreen the works! NO SWEEP RIDER. The last guy is on a 450 BM. They stopped at the Hideout and we moved on after brief chat. So at the next gate the BM discovers he drove off without zipping his tank bag, Which is where he stores his Wallet. Needless to say he left it on the trail. Turns around to chase it down. Un-funny part is he has no GPS and No idea where he is. Ten minutes later, a leader returns ant takes off to retrieve the guy. Fast forward to Bar 10, Sat call from BM. Lost !! No Idea. I hope they found the BM'r. Idea, this is such a great ride, you should lead a group out there!

    I'm in a pickle!

Delightful Mike, great work! That is a face any 990 rider has to love.
  5. Just to get things rolling, I will start the Ride Report, Beezzz, I heard a rumor of additional travel up north.
  6. Doug, Have fun on those Testosterone Trails. Point of information: How would you rank the White Mountain climb traveling east from the junction of 3N11 north of Barton Flats? My recollection, having slid down it in a westerly direction, is a good deal of loose shale with a few twists. Kinda compares with the first climb west on Redonda Ridge. No sweat, I imagine. Planning for the TAT

Zina, If these quality Ride Reports keep up, we will need to report you to ADVrider. Dave
  8. Beezzz, Toroweap - Devil's Backbone - Navajo Trail. Friday out of Mesquite.
  9. Hard Not to pull the tent out and set up camp. Had to get back to town.
  10. Ride Cancelled - See you on the next one! This will be a MotoCamping Shakedown ride. I will be testing the Full Kit / Load for reliability and drivability. I will be turning around at Culp Valley and returning to truck. Others may want to continue down to Borrego Valley for a longer ride. Back to trucks by 1300hrs. Park in shade outside the closed Tamarisk Grove Campground 9:00AM show-up. http://maps.google.c...bbd065ff47a0773
  11. Change of plans, I'm taking another direction with the Road Test. Ride Cancelled. Gotta get back quick for family event.
  12. Mike, The '08 black frame has 9.8" of travel the '09 Orange frame 10.8". Yours looks on the tall side. Stock gearing is tall, 15:45. At 14:50 mine feels wound up at 65-70. I guess I need to not worry about it and wind it up! The clearance on the tanks looks great. On the website, those English tanks appear fairly low. 5.6 gal is great! Plus, no need to fill them if not needed. Looking forward to seeing the bike. I like that the screen is see through. Much like the 990. Flash a picture of the dashboard when you have a chance. Dave
  13. Hoss, In your bike build piece you spoke of needing to use the front fuel tanks to install the fairing. Are we looking at two front tanks? Also, It looks like you stretched the legs of your '08. If so, how'd that work? And thirdly, what gearing did you run out there in the Open Spaces? I'm running 14/50 currently, and thinking of going 15/50 to Toroweap and up to Fredonia. Lookin' Good!
  14. The Season is Upon Us, Dave's Version - Stock KTM frame, Custon Plate Justin's Version - Fit not quite ready. Wings are to keep dry bags off exhaust.

    Summer Packing

"You got a bender ?? " Justin, the man behind Nomadic Racks of El Cajon, did the Prototype. That is the second rack pictured. The fit to the Fuel tank/subframe needs adjustment so that the 8mm bolts pull up comfortably. There are two separate setups. I pursued a dual track development in case Justine didn't finish in time for my travels. The first rack is an adaptation of the KTM tail bag frame with the addition of .190 aluminum plate.

Zina, Write to us when you finish the move to your new home. You did a great job breaking down the 950 and Ducati, to fit the tail bags.

    Dirt and rocks

Roger, Welcome to the fold. Some, like you, have taken a long vacation from the Dirt... Never-The-Less, the Rocks and the call of the Remote latched a-hold and has not let loose! You have started on a Journey that will be rewarding, both in new horizons and new friends. Watch the "Informal Rides" section for the action. From that you will learn areas that interest and challenge. Post up where you want to explore and someone will join your adventure.
  19. Don, I would think it is obvious what it means... He has lost his glasses, which explains why he ran the bike off the trail into the flowers. Subsequently, he used his camera to try to find the bike, managing only to focus the center of the frame I hope he finds his glasses PS; Paul, Thanks for sharing your story

    Bar 10

https://share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?glId=0Fr71CDpnIzYGAgVYVCRFE1PfZnXWcG9q The Spot Shared Page over to DSM has been entertaining over the last few days. Strega, Hoss and the Ringleader Crawdaddy have their SPOT units dropping reports every 10 minutes. As this is written, Hoss is in the lead in the Race to Mesquite, with Strega taking a more relaxed pace out of Bar 10. CD'y cannot pull himself away, as he is down at the river overlook south of the Bar 10 Airport. Who knows when he will decide to come home?
