  1. I may be available - been a while an wanting to hit the CC to PV connector. Planning on starting at a "reasonable" hour, like 9 instead of 7 Marc
  2. I'm 20% (at the moment) able to go. It would mean driving out Fri night or Sat am, riding Sun with AZTOM, then heading back to SD. Any chance you'd (AZTOM) be willing to guide a ride or two over Thanksgiving time period. Will likely be in Prescott to see the in-laws for Thanksgiving. Marc
  3. Anyone up for an afternoon ride at Corral Canyon off Hwy 8 & Buckman Springs road? Maybe a 1-4ish ride? Marc
  4. No apologies needed. Never got your call and had my headset on, just in case. Sounds like I was right behind you guys on trail #1, bummer. I saw a Bob cat cub and just hoped the mama didn't come out as I went by. On the way out I felt like I was getting stung by bees and sure enough I have a bite the size of an orange on my arm. It was a fun ride day! Next time, let's do it soon. I am ride ready now that my team is out of the Cup. Oh yeah, I ride the billygoat(XT) out there. It is much easier to handle, I need to get more experience and protection on the beast before it sees the dirt. Good call. We couldn't imagine a BMW on some of the stuff we were on (and I avoid the really nasty trails). I think there are swams of bees (I've seen in the air and on the ground) especially in the southern side of the park - like trail #8 off the perimeter road. I try to get through those sections quickly and carefully. As I don't want to think what would happen if you skidded and dropped the bike in the wrong spot. We do it or McCain, Painted Gorge, etc soon.
  5. Apologies Sondra. I arrived at 1pm, and was sure you beat me, as we didn't hit the trail until 1:20p. I called your cell, but likely you were on Hwy 8 I guess still headed out. We looked for a BMW, but I don't think we saw an XT either. We rode #1 to road, right to #8, #8 to #11 left on #11 to road, right on road to Spur Meadow, then up to fire tower. #8 is a but kicker. Did you still get to hit some trails? Look fwd to next time.
  6. I plan on going out there tomorrow and would like to meet up. What pace are you riding? Do you think it'll be busy with the holiday or is everyone hitting the beach? Sondra I'm not in a rush; just happy to get out. Hopefully most will be at the river, or Gorman where it's cooler. Most don't like the heat (when it's over 90F) in East County. Will check email again in the am around 11am. I'm in Lakeside, and can get to 4 Corners in 40 min. or so.

    July 3rd (saturday)

Will know tmw (Fri) if Sat am is available. Sat afternoon is currently good. If I don't see you, I'd recommend avoiding the Bronco Peak, or similarly named trails (3, 3a, etc). The risk/return is not worth it. #1 from Top to Bottom is a great ride. Turn right on the road for 1 mi, turn right onto #5 (easy to miss). Turn left on on #11. Take 2 miles (ish) to the road. Turn right. Go a mile and a half or so, and turn left (small gap in fence with sign for Spur Meadow). Great ride and views. Take up to top (fire lookout). Then down road back to 4 Corners.

    July 3rd (saturday)

I'd be up for a Sat afternoon ride at Corral Canyon. I know the trails reasonably well, and usually carry my map as well. Folks thinking about a 1p to 4pm ish ride? Meet at 4 Corners? Marc
  9. Have a newly plated 250 that I've been riding for 4 years (Corral Canyon, Pine Valley, Gorman, Ocotillo, Superstition, Santa Veronica, etc). With the plate, would like to try some things closer to home (Lakeside). Would like to ride Otay with someone who knows the trails. Prefer to drive, park and ride, as I'm really more set up for the dirt. Happy to meet anywhere I can safely leave the truck. Thanks! Marc
  10. Sounds good. I'll shoot for 8 and if I miss you, I'll see you at 9 then. Riding a KTM 450 in a little gray toyota pickup with lumber rack. Same for me. 8am (hopefully) with CRF250X plated in a black Tundra, parked at the previous address listed - assuming that's the one across from Thousand Trails.
  11. I would like to propose 9 a.m. at the parking area across the street from Thousand Trails RV park on Otay Lakes Road... about 2 miles from the 94 intersection... I would LOVE to go earlier, but know a lot of people like to sleep... If 8 is not a deal breaker we can do that... stand by... i MAY be able to get an address 9am sounds great to me. Est duration is what 3, or 4 hrs?
  12. Sunday would work for me. Just need to know where to meet (so I can park and leave the truck in a safe area), and what time. What's a typical ride there - 3 hrs?
  13. Don't really know the area. But was thinking about Friday....I can always try to load up GPS tracks from other sites. Hoping for Sat or Sun, as can't miss work this Friday.

    Border Ride Sat AM 3/28?

What's the total distance? Max distance btwn gas stops? % dirt versus % street? I'm on a plated CRF250X, so less distance than most duals, but more hungry for dirt.
  15. We're planning on heading out (from Lakeside) Sat morning, and arriving before noon on Sat. I'm on a plated Honda 250 and wife has a 450 Wolverine 4x4 quad. Would love to hook up for some joint rides.
  16. Been riding for the last 2 years locally (Ocotillo Wells, McCain, Corral Canyon, Gorman (Hungry Valley), Kennedy Meadows and Santa Veronica (Tecate). Frustrated with lack of accessibility of some trails and connectors, so went the plated route. Travel a lot for work, and see tons of potential trails in Anza Borrego, south of Hwy 8 near Alpine, and south of East Lake (Otay?). Also want to ride Big Bear, Arrowhead, etc. Tired of rides with really fast racers who never see what they're riding through, i.e Superstition to Ocotillo runs, etc. Do we classify rides (similar to how most of the bicycle clubs do - A, B, C difficulty, mileage before fuel stop, etc)? Look forward to meeting and riding with many of you. Marc Lakeside, CA

New Member Looking for Riders & Places

I'm a relatively new rider myself. Just started a little over 3 years ago, but I've put a lot of miles on my bikes both on and off pavement. The desert dash is in Anza Borrego every year and there's plenty of riding there for street legal bikes. It seems that a year or two ago there was an SDAR Otay Mountain TT ride about once every week until everyone got tired of it. The Loveland Reservoir is south of Alpine. There's also a lot of rural residential houses around there. I think you might be able to find some gray areas around there, but nothing where you could ride with a lot of loud, fast bikes as if you were riding through Superstition. Do you get out to Santa Veronica very often? Good riding nearby and the wait at the Port of Entry on a bike is about as long as a stoplight. Gene Anza sounds great, as so much if off limits to non-plated cycles. Hoping to ride Otay sometime, at least to see what's there, as I only see it from the air. Traveling the next couple weeks for work, so hope to get riding again in Nov. I've ridden some easy and some extremely technical in Santa Veronica. Biggest problem is the border. I've had gas cans confiscated and general hassles going down (for no reason) and of course the wait coming back. I wouldn't ride my 250 across. It's really more of a plated trail bike than a dual purpose. The current killings and ongoing issues in Mexico really make it undesireable to go to - despite amazing riding.
