    SUPERMOTO RIDE

Just an FYI for what it's worth. I rode after work yesterday on the Naked bike up Highland Valley to Santa Ysabel, Mesa Grande, and back. There is a ton of sand and debris in the turns from the fires, then last weeks rains. I had my tires drift 2 or 3 times even though I could see it coming. Just an FYI... Be causious around the turns you can see around. Highland Valley and 78 are really bad. Dan Maybe, if it rains you can all throw your knobbies back on and do a "supermuddo" ride instead. THATS FUNNY We can keep that around as a inside joke in the club to warn of muddy rides coming up this winter.

    Saturday Arrowhead ride

Thanks for the advise both DD and Dig, We had a great time up there. No Rain! We took my wife on the 3N16 and 3n34 foreroads to get the cobb webs out. That was about as much as she wanted for the weekend. Sunday morning my buddy and I got up and rode 1W17 (Redonda Ridge to the top and back down. Wow, that was great. No Bull dogging and rode everything, but there were a few pucker moments for sure. I wasn't really worried about dying, but I hate throwing my motorcycle down on rocks and over cliffs. Very Sweet though. It looks like we should of headed out 3N34 towards Pinnacles as their looks to be a lot of the 50" trails there. We started that way, but started down 3N34D towards Devils Hole. WOW... That got a little sketchy, so we turned around at the first drop off as we didn't want to carry our bike out! Sorry my pics won't post for some reason? Thanks again.. Dan Dan, click on over to this website: http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/sanbernardino/recreation/ohv/ and print out the two maps for the "Mountaintop Ranger District". Crab Flats is depicted on the first one and all green-sticker trails are red on the map (green or grey ones require a plated bike). Road 3N16 "Holcomb Valley" is a very easy fire road that takes you up to Big Pine Flats CG. From there, 3N11 is another easy road that takes you up to an overlook. All the routes turn black diamond from there. 1W17 (Redonda Ridge) is one of the best trails up there, but it's also one of the toughest and there are no bail-outs (gotta go forward or back). 3N34 is the jeep trail Dirt Dame was talking about. It's fairly easy going downhill from Crab Flats, but you have to come back up it. Actually, there are only 2 or 3 difficult spots that you could probably get through (although you might have to ride her bike for her in a couple spots if she's not up to it). It should be a great weekend for your camping trip!!! Keep an eye out for the jeepers and quads, as I'm sure they'll be all over the place!!!

    Saturday Arrowhead ride

DD, I'm actually camping up there at Crab Flats for the first time this Saturday. I'm bring my wife who has a Honda 250x that is NOT street legal. Any advise on loops that are pretty moderate to get her started as she hasn't ridden since last desert season. Are the trails pretty well marked? Any advise would be great... Thanks, Dan Well, on the weekend it would take a little less than 2 hours, more if you are driving at a leisurely pace. If you left early on a weekday, there's no telling what kind of commuter traffic you might hit near Riverside. The mileage is about 105 to 110 miles, depending on what kind of detours you might make and about 115 miles if you skip trying to get on 215 south on the way back and just book west on 91 to 15 south, cause the freeway is under construction and a real confusing, slow mess.
  5. Great Pics! I was out there with 2 buddies 2 weeks ago. We also started at Carney rode and rode up Nf-7s04 to Nf-6s89. We rode down Alessandro singletrack. PIC# 19 & 20. Let me tell you. I consider myself a pretty decent technical rider, and it was all I wanted.... Great Pictures and skills you guys have. I was way to worried about throwing my new KTM down a cliff. We then made a right at Bautista Rd and rode up Nf-6s16. We found some singletrack on the left that looped around and back down, then rode up Hixon (which is really sweet) and fireroad back to trucks. We were able to link up 45miles. Sorry no pics, I was to busy death gripping my bars. We will most likely be out there again this Sunday early. Maybe we'll see some of you out there. Dan

    DRZ400 vs. XR400 - Comparison

http://sandiego.craigslist.org/mcy/314151848.html $2100, there it is! Swing by when you pick it up. I looked at and rode that one on Wednesday. If you're looking for the ULTIMATE BEATER, this is it! It was a little too rough for me. Needs a carb clean, probably valve adjustment, maybe rings (compression was weak). I just sold my 2003 DRZ 400E to get my KTM. FYI, the reliability will not be an issue. I had 300hrs, 6000 offroad miles and the valves were still within spec and never needed adjustement. The only thing that ever needed replacement was the battery. Not one other thing had ever gone out. I had a 97XR400 before it. The Xr will run forever, but the DRZ is many steps above in my opinion. Also, in bone stone form ,the DRZ has almost 10hp more. Hope this helps. Dan

    Anyone Know of this Trail

Unfortunately it does look like the road crosses private property a few miles in (according to 1/6/2006 CNF Route Inventory Maps). It's possible you veered left at one point and got off the county road? Anyone have a favorite mountain biking site to check it out on? NF-13510 / Westside Road... Thanks for all the info guys. Looks like another link to Julian with a dead end. It's funny how many Nf roads we have here in SoCal that are closed to use. Thanks again. Dan

    Anyone Know of this Trail

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I couldn't find a spot for anyone having trail knowledge. That would be a great forum for a q&a about trails. Have anyone ridden from the SDCE in Ramona heading towards Julian? Ramona Oaks comes to a dead end, but Google earth shows fireroad to the jeft and right. I've mtn. biked the trail to the left 10 years ago and I think I remember 1 gate at the bottom. Not a problem on a bike, a cycle is a different story. Has anyone ridden this or have any info. The trail looks to turn into Westside Rd. and then Nf-13510. Does anyone know if you can take this all the way to Julian any longer. Any info would be great. And once again, sorry if posted in the wrong location. Dan

    Blue Sky Ranch Rd

No " off road vehicles" implies that is ok for plated bikes... to me... anyone have other thoughts? EXACTLY! When are we going? Just FYI, unfortunately this road was closed several year ago as part of the Blue Sky preserve. It is gated on the Poway side and only open to hikers. No vehicles of any kind. No motorcycles, mountain bikes, or cars. The only vehicle you'll see is the Ranger. From the Ramona side on Highland Valley, there is a gate which is usually open, but a sign stated that the road is private property owned by the Water Dist. and there is no trespassing. Hate to break the bad news, but defintely wouldn't want to get caught in a Federal Preserve on my Cycle. Dan M

    D.O.T approval? Any info?

Thanks for the great info guys. Hopefully I'll hook up with some of you to ride. I'll be at Ocotillo Wells this Sunday to ride, but with some people w/o DS Bikes. Thanks Again. Dan
  11. First time writer, long time reader. Hello all, I'm new to the forums. I just got a 07 KTM EXC 450 and have been riding it every chance I get. Like most people on this webpage, I can't leave well enough alone. I've removed the reflectors, installed the small Baja Designs LED Taillight and fender, and put on tiny little not DOT blinkers. My question is, have any of you had any issues with the USFS or CHP actually looking at the blinkers or reflectors and writting fix-it tickets. I got pulled over on Black Canyon last weekend by the USFS and the guy just laughed and was totally cool once he saw I had a plate. I'm most concerned with the local Sherriffs and CHP's as you should see them rubber neck as I go by. Any info or experiences would be great. I hope to hook up and ride with some of you soon. Dan
