    There's Food in My Gas

Good find Amgems, thanks. From the article: Q: Have any tests been performed to determine the compatibility of ethanol with fuel system parts? A: Yes, several tests have been performed which indicate that blends containing up to 10v% ethanol are compatible with the metals and elastomers in modern vehicle fuel systems. Q. Will ethanol result in reduced fuel economy? A. The addition of ethanol will usually result in a fuel economy loss of about 2-3%. This has been confirmed through numerous tests. Q. Does ethanol cause vapor lock and hot restart problems? A. The tendency of a fuel to contribute to vapor lock and hot restart problems is defined by its overall volatility characteristics. This includes the fuel's distillation characteristics, vapor pressure, and vapor liquid ratio. Vapor lock and hot restart problems are primarily a summertime problem. Today the summertime volatility of all fuels, including those containing ethanol, is controlled by the EPA volatility regulations. Consequently, hot driveability problems related to fuel volatility have been largely eliminated. Q: What about using gasoline ethanol blends in power equipment and other small engine applications? A: Nearly every mainstream manufacturer has indicated that ethanol blended fuels containing up to 10v% ethanol can be used in their products. A small number of manufacturers indicate that minor adjustments may be necessary or recommend special precautions. What adjustments and special precautions? Most of the Ethanol use is aimed at vehicles, so its made for their use. Small engines take a back seat. There are so many products like Sta-Bil now it is hard to know which do what and actually work. Most of the rubber parts I have had trouble with look dehydrated and are brittle and hard leaving them susceptible to breakage by movement or slightest touch. Not soft and supple anymore. While a pain in the ass to replace. The bigger problem is equipment in Stand By use. The Generator started leaking in the garage where a water heater is located. So really, safety is a big concern here. John, I hope the boat which had Sta-Bil in it, is alright. I'll have to dig into it in the next few weeks. More please!~

Stabilizer was only in the boat and hauler generator. I try to run equipment every thirty days, but it ends up sometimes being every other month... Spaugh, you are Blessed and Lucky. At $10 a gallon it still looks like a good option for the small motors. One repair shop had little cans of Small Motor Fuel for $10/2 quart can ($20/gal). Big jump from yours, Kelly. What do the Off Road guys use for fuel these days? (Obviously, I am out of the loop.) I don't know much about VP Fuels... Please keep the suggestions comming. Thanks S Going to read the PDF on Fuel. Do you know that Mid Grades are generally mixed at point of purchase? They mix it in the tanks under the dispencery. How accurate is that? How much fuel is in the hose from last transaction? If the last person purchased Regular grade and you pump Premium Grade. How much regular do you end up with in your tank? Important to know when testing for Ethanol Free using the test strips. All of the gas and diesel (with few exceptions) comes down the same pipeline. All the factory numbers for fuels mean a lot less when the fuel is pushed down the same line. Alot of the time they do not use pigs to separate. Ethanol, to my knowledge is mixed in at the farm in Mission Valley. I don't know the difference between Calif Winter and Summer gas. This crap is way over my head, and generally I can say that most consumers no very little about the fuel they burn up in their vehicles.

Yep I had tried the Pure Gas website, thanks. I should have said "at the Pump" because it did not list anything "at the pump" closer than Parker, Az. on their site. I'll edit OP.
  6. Documentary about Parks in the California System versus Population Growth. Can I say Biased? First part pitts the Flower Smelling/Quiet Seeking visitors to AB State Park vs the Off Road Users of Ocotillo Wills SRVA. It paints a poor picture of those in the OW Park. Use of the Background Music was juvenile to say the least. I would consider myself a member of both groups. None of the examples really typify either group. Each Group is very diverse in their reasons for using the two Parks. The pulpit was given to the Man who is responsible for the Suit to Eliminate OW Park and have it rejoin AB State Park. (That may not be accurate, but it was my impression). The rest of the show explains how Population Growth has affected the State Park System. I was appalled at some of the places money ends up going. And also how some park employees interact with and treat wildlife. (personal opinion) No wonder our State Parks are in trouble.... Lots more to the program. I picked up a few more things after a second viewing. But it had a definate recreation versus protection theme. S Sorry my writing skills are not on par as some of the other members here.... I never wrote Book Reviews well in School.

Maintenance Day at Chief Gunner's Place

Aaron, thanks for having us over to BS.... work on the bikes. Great food! Got home and one grip heater didn't work but finally figured it out. I was worried I had nicked the wires..... And I still think you should leave your bike here with John and pick one up from the factory and ride through the alps and then to Spain. Epic. Anyway, nice to see all of you. S

  10. I received an Email from Brian about a photo contest for East County. Photo Contest Wouldn't it be great to have someone here have their photo in Sacramento? We have some very talented amatuer and some seriously talented professional photographers here! Good luck. Spyder (Many of us have ridden with Brian before. He is one of us in Sacramento)
  11. Dan, perhaps you misread the the title. Nowhere did it say Wildlife Photo Contest..... Seeya 'round. S

Thanks Kelly for setting this up. Nice to see everyone.
  13. I was searching for a video link in an old post of mine and having trouble finding it. When I search for something specific in "my content", it will only go back a year... Is there a way to set the perameters differently to accomplish what I am seeking? Also, a regular search only goes back to 2010 for me. Did we totally loose or purge old content? Thanks. Edit: found what I was looking for. Could we still get an answer to the above?

    Places to ride and shoot

Spaugh, all good points. Keep in mind this is close to the State Park Boundry. So KNOW where you are in relation. Maybe move this to members section or better yet PMs. And Steelrain, could you send me a PM with areas closer than Imperial Valley, it would be much appreciated. Xcountry, PM sent. S I would be up for a Scoot n Shoot after the gun show. ????
  15. Mimi, that's a sweet little ride. Enjoy the fruits of your labor out on the track. I know it won't be sitting around the garage like so many of those restored bikes are. S

    Huge Thanks to SandiegoLand

Craig, sorry to hear you have to sell the bike. I was hoping you were making progress and to see you out riding again....... ::sigh:: If circumstances change and you improve, please have you and your wife come on over and pick up any bike I have to ride. I hope you kept your plate as a reminder of all the good times you had riding it! You will be in our thoughts and prayers. Spyder
  21. Randy, it's gorgeous up there. I have always wanted to visit the Vermilion Resort and ride the Ferry around the lake. (Not a Hiker by any stretch of the imagination though). Are they working on the hiking trails? There are only two short vehicle trails in the area. Onion and Bear something or other. Most everything else is hiking trails. We are going to be in the Shaver and Huntington areas but not until later this month. After a hard day on the trail, try the Mono Hot Springs. MHS And White Bark Vista for the veiws! S Oh and that road into Edison is fun.......... One Lane going Both Ways. Cagers will run you off the road! (Not nessessarily on purpose either. They are distracted by the views!)
