    Hand wringing over hand guards

OEM or Acerbis Flags since 2008, my daughter did an OTB and snapped her wrist, plus I like my bikes in FIM enduro trim. As stated no closed guards per FIM enduro and MX safety rules. Additionally , For my last few bikes I runs ARC Memlon unbreakable levers and always run my levers well inside the ends of my bars. Many friends run Moose or other elephant ears in the big cactus areas to ward off spines to the hands. You can see many of these setups in the recent Tecate Enduro. Most of my crew run open flags but there are exceptions and some do use closed flexible plastic types like the older OEM KTM type or Acerbis types, these in standard configuration allow for handlebar flex and can break free if needed. (Yes I know Cycra and others have flex mount set ups too). My 2006 TE450 was the last bike I rode with closed guards and they were Cycra, stout and bullet proof. So many choices, my mantra as the years have passed is less is more. Less weight less parts less gear etc etc

  4. I saw the Kug sticker in the Sta Veronica bar/restaurant bathroom!!
  5. Start is back to Hacienda Santa Veronica for this years event. Although now 61....l will once again race in the 50+ class to ride the entire 3 test course (60+ is for test 1 and 2 loop only). GP Motorcycles, National City Moto, RynoPower, Redline Oil, Sedlak Offroad School/FXR are my primary supporters ( esposa bonita tambien) 2021 Husqvarna TE300i will be the steed once again. The scene is almost ISDE like...(OK sort of).
  6. We are fortunate to have (retired and active) World Class level guys local and available to us regular riders here in SoCal, it's great that they share knowledge and camaraderie as well as some cool DS tracks!!! This one will be worth every penny.
  7. VET B would be a safe start point (VET INT). Pokey knows me , if you want references. Our local crew is signed up for the Soboba 2023 , I have not done one for a few years that last one looked fun from the viddy I saw. Enjoy!!
  8. This is really one of the special events. I went to the first one at the Doffo winery, but missed the DS ride due to back injury (disc bulge-brutal)
  9. email from Scot and Johnny Scot Harden Dear Handstands at 100mph Dual Sport Riders, We are just a little over one week away from our 2nd Annual Handstands at 100mph Baja Borrego Dual Sport Ride. We have two fun days of training , riding and bench racing planned all based out of the Ocotillo RV Resort. The fun begin Friday afternoon Dec. 9th at 3:00pm with rider training seminars by Johnny and Scot. We will cover basic riding technique, physical and mental preparation as well as a refresher course on GPS navigation. This will be followed by a technical seminar given by Mike Spurgin of TacoMoto who will dispel some of the myths and misconceptions about modern dual sport motorcycle set-up. The seminars are designed to help you on your journey through the sport. The ride itself is a 100 mile GPS navigation exercise within the Ocotillo SVRA. We’ve worked with the park managers there to come up with a very interesting and challenging loop. Gas will be available at the halfway point in Salton City. Following the ride we will be hosting a party Saturday evening with food, a bonfire, campout and bench racing session Saturday evening. The entire event is based out of the Ocotillo RV Resort. A Schedule of events is attached to this email along with a link below to registration. This is a very unique and highly personal event dedicated to the legacy of Baja/Desert racing. Expect some special guests and industry icons joining us at the ride. For registration visit: https://harden-offroad.com/legendary-events/handstands-at-100mph. We look forward to seeing you there. Regards, Scot and Johnny Handstands at 100mph
  10. 24 SEP That was the meet and greet meet up at the Blackmore Ranch. This weekend is the DS ride out of Ocotillo SVRA. https://harden-offroad.com/legendary-events/handstands-at-100mph I just spoke with Johnny at the Tecate Enduro they are super stoked for this DS event with all the side show stuff as well with both Scot Harden and Johnny Campbell. I have another commitment and can't make it....
  11. 0801 + a few seconds right near the start (61st minute start) my EZ Up and truck visible in the background)
  12. well at 61 rode the 50+ class and finished just into the the top 50% of class for class P20 from 42 riders. Lost a bunch of time at a bottle neck on loop/test 3 waiting for the carnage to clear. All good the speed average calculations for times was 16MPH which was easy to maintain coming in early on loop 1 and 2 for great break for gas up and body fuel. OA somewhere around 150th which again is right around the 50% mark, all of which I am happy with. My heartrate hovered around mid 140s when getting on the gas and calmed when backing down and maintaining clean body position and speed. I checked pictures so far and am pleased with my ergos. Sedlak Offroad School Training has me in much more efficient and safe ergo position for a good flow and less tiring. The course for this year was in fact a bit toned down from some of the previous editions I have done, the fun factor was higher and moments of doubt and pain were zero (for me anyway).
  13. This one is pretty good for an idea of the action to expect 250A class
  14. I will also chime in here. AMA member is a must, club member not a must. However: D37 is the hub of many famous SoCal clubs, if you find one you like , it is a big help if you do the D-37 events. Although not a member, all the Nationals and D-37 events I am usually a guest of the 100s MC as a friend of a long time senior member. They will keep your fuel and assist with pit stops in everyway. Now getting to meat and potato(e)s. The high dez of Johnson valley and othe D-37 events is waaaay more tough and technical than any local event except when the D-38 hosted some of the H&H Nats which were also tough ones. The usual local events are whoops, sand, washes and some rocky stuff, usually fast dez baja type racers are the best locally, I have done a few local dez events and really never liked them, too freaking fast. I cannot say that about any D-37 zone events from 2 day ISDE qualifiers to National H&H to Dez sprint enduros and XC events. If you want to challenge yourself D-37 National H&H will always give you some stories to talk about. The sprint enduro stuff is the same terrain without the hard hard stuff but will challenge you in a short section sort of way. The 1st one of the year is the DMC Desert MC event and it will test you, the last one of the year is the 100's MC and that one always checks you. Also bear in mind where I'm coming from AMA 50 A (now 61) which are always full course routes from the front row of the start. The same as ISDE97 (Matt). So gather up your skill set age group B Int is a good start so you can be on the full course run and feel the burn. That's my tuppence (2cents in London) PS watch some D-37 go pro stuff the hills are rocky and steep the cross grain in the valleys is sometime brutal and the rocks themselves are sharp and blocky. 1994 Husaberg FC501 MXGP style machine build

Continuing to be in work, update------ suspension is all complete, wheels are being laced and head is 99.9% ready, frame is ready, we are close to final assembly.
  16. brilliant that you are out there. I gotta say it bike is all off balance.... stabilizer at slow speeds is a hindrance. Lower plush suspended bike would be more safe and comfortable, especially at that speed, bike set up more front weight bias not less (balanced). weight on rear fender is fine if sag spring rate is good or else it is the biggest far from cg imbalancer as seen on many traveler bikes, and anyway it will always hinder handling less is more, for a simple day run. Money spent on parts is better spent on training, no matter what age you are. training=safety. bike set up right for the task, proper ergo body position sitting or standing. and all the rest will be more comfortable. Way to stay calm.

Padu!!!! Is the mang!! Getting out and doing it with enthusiam!! Keep up the training see you soon. I'm set for the 10Th with the SOS (Sedlak), hope to see you there on small bike. If I am solo I will bring my classic Italian TE610 for some sesh time. That's my "BIG BIKE"...... I have said it before every athlete and performer have trainers.....more moto folks really NEED proper instruction, I see many moto/enduro riders just making themselves work too hard and incorrectly, along with incorrect bike set ups... that individually and combined create a bad mix looking for a place to happen scenarios.
  18. 3DEC is rapidly approaching. It's a big happening to witness and Hacienda Santa Veronica ain't a bad destination ride either.
  19. Looks like one of the 3 tests (loops) of the Tecate Enduro...............some good examples of weight your peg or pegs moments.
  20. I legit signed for this one. 26FEB2023. Back story a guy I know asked if I was doing the ride and implored that I ride the 2023 version. I told him I did the ride 2x once long ago that I signed up for properly and once a couple years back that myself and unnamed individual did as "poached" ride. We showed up late morning grabbed some red dots from quitters and rode the loop. I did not know that this guy is one of the course managers and part of the ride org...........needless to say I promised him I would legit sign for this year. And I did.... so 2023 is on the calendar.
  21. I feel this is a good system, and as folks get out and ride under these skill designators the SDAR group will get the rating levels dialed in even more as rider testing, rating and inputs come in following group rides. Understand I try my best to gauge groups as we ride, so as to not get folks into trouble or ruin their fun, or worse hurt. You more active club members have a good feel for your bike groups levels due to more participation in group riding. My tuppence. Types as listed above make a big difference for what where and how a ride will go. I have my extended crew of ADV guys that ride 1090s, T7s etc. for them a standard (enduro race bike trail on big bikes) is a normal level 1 day. For most it would be level 3, so there is the subjectivity aspect of the skill set numbering system. But overall, this club is well balanced for assessing levels. My threepence. Enjoy the ride.
  22. That was a great day, like Padu, I did not know you took a digger. Temp and terrain were perfect, and the class was most excellent. I love the new location. Those one-handed drills really reinforce the loose arm relaxed ergo position. Get healed up and get back in it!!! Robertaccio (Husqvarna TE300i on that day)
  23. Full on ADV man is the locally famous Padu !!!!
