Why can't we get these bike here?

alot of the DS versions you see in EU are built by the importers,, like yamaha motor france and HM honda Italy... they do a great job of building up super competitive DS bikes, like the HM CRF enduro comp bikes

    BMW 450 Enduro

I sat on the 450 at the indy moto gp bmw display,,,, the bike has a good competition enduro feel. it was a no start, display model. it had all the DS stuff on it with very well tucked in signals, forks are the zoke TE standard style, i think they are not the 50s but the 04 size (45,48 i forget) the display bike had the o2 sensor on it with a huge cat exhaust can and was the euro3 model according to the BMW rep. it had metz FIM comp eco tires, it has domino controls. and that strange for all , plug over the fuel fill at the back of the seat. the seat is flat to the steering head,, lots of room to plant fwd for WEC grass track front wheel riding. odd to see a cable clutch on a euro. The fuel pump is external and is very low and at centermass on the lowest tank spot. the Ohlins shock is super long and lays at a steep angle,,like the old yamaha monos and other previous designs of this style. There is a triangle link at the base of the shock that appears to be able to be changed to set the rear up for different stroke/feel requirements. the beauty of the CS/swingarm pivot is that chain tension remains constant and with no effect on the rear suspension ala leitners device atk,,, the chassis is a stressed member with the engine case seemingly vulnerable,,but these have all ready completed the erzberg enduro and many other events including the WEC and ISDE so i guess with the right skid plate its all good.. This bike has been designed with the intention of winning enduro and XC type events and it shows. with newly aquired david knight and Juha salminen for 09 the best enduro xc riders will be in the saddle,,,,,,,,ps imho the huskys we see now, mine included will disappear and be rebadged bmws possibly as early 2010. that is a wag by the way. PS Kari T (Fin)rode a 480 version in the E3 class at the ISDE so they have overbored the bike as well. FYI for the SOCAL Honda guys this is not a Baja race bike or an MX bike it is a Euro Enduro bike like KTMs Huskys,Betas,Gas Gas, Husabergs, Sherco ,Aprilia and yes HM Hondas, WR Yams, euro WEC team prepared Suz and Kaw did i get them all R PS for the Honda flag wavers HM Honda Zanardo builds some killer enduro CRFs and have some world champs (Ahola) to show for them. PPS i like all bikes and the WEC has largest variety of OEM racing machines in any racing series, something like 12 manufacturers (for race fans of all brands)
  7. time for bed!! but one more thing to bear in mind shes got a big 41mm carb open wide at low rpm and lose alot ofvacuum, hence cough,(lean ) so ther is another train of thought. Husky built the bike with pro enduro in mind they got great dyno HP from these things, notice KTM enduros use smaller carbs on the 450 38 or 39 I forgot to get more low end and mid power. But I think that stutter can be tuned out of the equation with more fiddling about as you said, get everything set, clean air filter, good fuel, plug good, valves adjusted, etc etc .and go for it. Also don't be afraid to talk with GP concerning these issues, I don't think Pauls super moto bikes have any stutter...but they run on race gas,,,,trust me from experience with my 06 these motors love race gas even at 30%,, I use mostly 50% in the 06. I have not used it in my 08 just good pump premium.
  8. brilliant,,,,,,,,,2300cc of Brit humor!!! I noticed it was Mony Python on the tellys
  9. ps I am one of the few that like the Amago vet track,,,I just take it as fun trail ride with all the junk you see on a good trail, The Amago main track is no-go for me,,I can never get any rythym on that track,,,its built for MX bikes and my machines have never been MX machines. R
  10. heres what the JD kit did, on my 06 TEand my 08TXC,,,same size main @180,,,,,JD needle (blu) which is very close to the OEM Mikuni needle, with maybe just a bit dif taper "JD custom" I think the key here is the leak jet,,, I believe(if I remember off hand (I do have all the info in my log book. JD uses a 65 leak jet which is fairly large, the OEM is a plug in the LJ spot,,, this offers no fuel bypass under pressure of the accelerator pump, It gives a sharper hit or.....a big pop from a big squirt of fuel. I really believe this is what you all are getting with that pop stall biz. Once installed I have only done an initial mixture screw slight adjustment,,,my 06 TE and now my 08 TXC idle well from sea level up to our local highs of @4000ft,and with temps from 60-108 (glen Helen) and they both mix really well in all throttle positions a very good all around base setting. I am sure that some folks would fiddle more but I am satisfied with the steady all around performance of the TE (previous) and now TXC. oops sorry I don't have a DS anymore (yet!!!). Ah so you have Johnny Js 510,,,you have my clutch in her if you have not changed it, another baja story I was heading back to SD after prerunning a section with another friend/competittor from St Tomas to Ojos and Mr airtime needed a clutch so i yanked mine and we installed it in his 510 I went home with my machine on the trailer and he bought me a new clutch nice exchange,,,now you mentioned she had the JD kit ,,I wonder if she has the leak jet installed as well? If you drop the float bowl you can see that little bugger installed in one of the passages. Rob PS if anyone with a carburated Husky would like to do the JD Jetting thing , I would try to make time to assist in the installation,,,,or assist you in tuning?? or just coach the install
  11. understood...... $200 for PN and PN+ @ $80 for the powershot and @$80 for James Deans kit with the leak jet installed, its not a cheap mod group, but for my style of riding its golden.
  12. dirt dame, your TE will check out fine on either the vet track at cahuilla or the main track... the however is, if there are a bunch of fast pros or experts or plain old scary Yahoos its best to stick with the vet track. But like you said go after we have some moisture up there at Anza. They dont do a great water job on the vet track it gets dusty. the flow of the vet track there is really nice with no big hits and its all safe. the main usually has no big hits but it does have blind jumps that the fast guys just launch off of,,,,so for us slower folks it can be dangerous in the landing zone. The Cahuilla style course is alot like Carlsbad was natural with rolling hills. Enjoy the ride, Rob
  13. Yes, I agree. The TE is a great handling bike, but stock gearing and low end power is not so great for those situations, so it is up to the rider to keep things on the powerband to get through the technical sections. secret weapon all in the induction side...... Scary fast PowerNow and Power Now Plus along with JD Jetting and Power now powershot,,,,super smooth bottom end with gobs of torque at min throttle openings. Oh plus as you said good clutch control to keep the torque curve optimum.
  14. another one for some real dual sport activity
  15. I was informed that most of the events trails are on private land?? I will find out more as we get closer to the event.

just an FYI the 952s are same pattern as the old 752s but with a longer lasting harder compound,,,,752s were great for loose stuff traction (sandy and muddy) but wore fairly quickly if you hit rocks or hard pack. all the folks i know that use 952s are very happy with them,,they offer a very good balance of good traction and durability , the users level are from off road AMs to EXs and are all tough on tires

    CC campo, and the 94

That was I, Spaugh on the Kato and me on the Husky,, glad we came through before the jeeps, we saw them pass at the bobcat campsite road. glad your trip was fun and uneventful.R Lime green outfit?? If yes, you almost got taken out by me too. Sorry about that, have to slow down on the road. We talked to a guy that smashed a brand new KTM into a jeep on the road by the lookout and had a broken hand and collar bone. He stayed the night and "took it easy" before leaving this morning. I would have left and gone to the hospital when it happened personally. Yeah, that was me, no worries as we were way clear of eachother. It was right after that , the jeep missed me. tried to be the best i could to stay away and out of the road, I would guess you were with another rider and gave a one finger up. you guys were the only ones passed all day long. Oh and 2 quads
  19. You guys can talk about it easy/ hard. From my limited experience that jeep trail from the lower campsite is a really ugly and tough trail. I think its more about the silty stuff and the loose stuff, traction is hard to gather. On that trail you need to just stay on top/up on your bike and just keep pushing with the clutch and trials ride it. The hardest part for us 3 was the very first climb after the initial lower rock garden, we all did well after that section. There is one other tough section near the top, but line choice (zig zag) kept us moving through it. Hey it gives everyone something to talk about!!! I think my preferred machine for that ride would be a KTM250XC-We or the 300, (not plate bikes) well neither is mine.. PS to wind up the jeep guys,,,that trail is ruined, it was once a tight 2 track, and even a little less in spots. Also the spur meadow trail was once a single line single track,,what the heck happened??? BoBcat happened...enough its off to work,,,,to all on the Mon ride Thanks again, you guys are well coordinated with the radio com and everyone rode safe and within their limits. R
  20. thanks to Dug and Brad we all fed off each other and kept the motivation going,,that was fun and challenging, dirtbikes are made to ride/race and get scratched and to challenge yourself. That is the only reason for riding for me. there is nothing to prove it our level, as their are so many pros that would laugh as they roosted past us on the trail,,, I have ridden with many top level pro riders,,,, there is nothing possible for any of us to prove. To all of you thanks we all had a good day today, fun, good people , great trails, no injuries,,just sore muscles!!! PS spaugh lets not do the baja thing on the dirt road anymore,,its dangerous out there,,,also corral has embedded rocks from H$%L,,,,Thanks to Bob for puttin it all together. see y all on the trail, its always good R

    Hhhhmmmmm

sorry #2 was hillclimb guy on a canyon face that we all just watched, with eyes wide open he came close to the top but not quite,,it was an ugly climb, trust me,,,me on #4 follownig Jr and 18Mass on 5 if you ever join 9lives on a ride just be prepared, for a trial like experience with lots of rocks
  22. robertaccio

    Hhhhmmmmm

you guys got it right ,,walt and his crew are into gnarly stuff, those phots spaugh put up include robertaccio(US) TXC450, #18 KTMMassimo(IT) and CRF Cyril(FR), from our san diego crew, that ride is called from walts (9lives) crew as the purgatory ride, very steep very rocky and real serious skid plate former sharp rocks. that latest thing they did with the canyon extraction was nuts,,,Hillclimb guy was with them and if he (former pro hillclimber) called the quits it was a tough climb out,,,I ve seen him go up some ugly hills up there in that area.you can see robertaccio following Jr up the rocks in the second photo,,,the others its hard to pick any us out but on the hill with 2 stranded guys i made it up with lots of paddling,,it took me 10 friggen minutes of recovery after that mess!!The loose stuff is tough stuff,,,,well ..that also depends,,,ps that was first ugly ride i took the 08 on she ended with some deep gouges,,,no crashes though,,just rock srapes galore,,,I agree a I would prefer at KTM250XC or 300XCWethere.
  23. Daryl, well stated,, out to have a fun day away from the normal day to day. competition and ego are best played out on the race course, trail riding is soul riding,,in the envelope and for full mind clearing enjoyment. sounds cliche' well maybe it is,, but that is why I am out there,,and that goes for my crew and our core group, this internet thing has just worked to hook more like minded folks up for riding!! Daryl, keep in touch for the next one, I wanna see that GG in action!! Also of note that doggone trials tire on Bretts TE is "like cheating" its not for me (my ride style) but he makes it work well, it is a viable and sticky option for many trail riders.R
