  6. 2010 TXC250 would be my choice!!. or.......2011 TE310!!! But I dont have a choice, mine has all ready been done.....my mucho modded and by then rebuilt 2008 TXC450 is the ride for me
  7. Catalina will certainly be a huge event, dont imagine it will be an AA course. Sure it will be a Hollywood event and super fun. I've imagined that a well set up pro SM machine may even be a smart ride. Tecate will be a knockdown drag out battle with the terrain and your body, a smaller number of riders, but if it's like the last 2 enduros in 94, 97 should be a tough long National caliber course. PS rumor has it that the Los Ancianos may move the race away from the Cat GP.

    Carlsbad USGP:1980: The Movie

mx moto1 and moto 2 always been like that except when some orgs ran 3 shorter motos 2 45 min moto format is the classic and really separates the very well conditioned from the conditioned athletes. (soccer match 2x 45 min)

Where to EAT in San Diego

New opening, soon "Foccacia" University Ave, northside between 4th and 5th in Hillcrest soon to open. Will feature a fresh simple Italian style food bar at very resonable prices. The owner chef Alberto is friend from Sicilia, his table is always done right.

    Carlsbad USGP:1980: The Movie

that was almost a blow off for me,,,so glad I went. Hope all had a good time, from my Cafe Husky post (cut and paste) Went to the San Diego event last night. Almost blew it off. Glad I didn't, special attendees included "The Man" Roger D "Bad Brad" Lackey (seated right behind us)), "Golden Boy" Glover, Danny LaPorte and many many former top pros and local SoCal MX guys from the 70-80-90s MX scene. Was a good moto flick and a nice tribute to Marty Moates. Interviewees and focus riders (some no longer with us like Marty) in the movie include so many riders/mechs/tv personalities it is hard to remember but here are a few last names, DeCoster, Tripes, Pomeroy, LaPorte, Wolsink, Carlqvist, Lechien,Johnson,Bailey, Tripp, Arnold, Siemen, LOP Yamaha folks, Hannah,Moates family members, track owners and many more that didnt come to my head at the moment. Go see the film or buy it. It has great ABC sports clips, great photos, and fun history of the day the day a privateer US rider from a private team went 1-1 at the USGP MX. The program they gave us has the entry list for the 500cc FIM USGP and the AMA 250cc races for that day at Carlsbad. And all the adverts are from the era!!The lists are a complete who's who of MX racers from history almost every name is recognizable from both lists. It was a cool event. __________________

    stripped oil drain plug bolt?

I agree with the above suggestions about using a dremel to slot them. then use a slotted screwdriver with a hex shaft or square shaft or the snap on type with th forged in hex, and turn the driver with a wrench to pop off the screws. Some torch heat would help too.

    Renewed DS rider! (smiley face)

Installed the UpTite exhaust system. Caused hate and discontent among at least one neighbor after riding by his house just 4 times, 2 times with a full compliment of 20 discs (loud) and 2 times with a half pack of 10 discs (still loud), still way loud and somewhat abnoxious unless in closed course competition. The pipe was really designed for Baja racing.......... sooo back to the garage for a dose of OEM dual pipe reinstall, to keep the peace among other DS riders and the general public (or angry SEAL team guy in this case, not a good guy to piss off). Oh yeah bike runs good, still needs fresh oil, a new fuel petcock (leaks), check valves, check cam chain and some wiring checks, right rear signal blinked none others work, headlights work, tailite no. Shes getting there!! PS if we were in the Husky homeland (Italy) loud bike and long hooligan wheelies down the street would be applauded by youth and the aged as well (I like that attitude). Have we become just a little too uptight here?? (just thinkin').

    "Cactus Comb"

When visiting (riding) Wickenberg AZ for the AMA Nat Enduro. I found the local AZ riders had a unique and logical way to pluck the chollas cactus ( http://www.delange.org/JumpingCactus/JumpingCactus.htm ) from your body. Lots of the racers had Afro Picks http://www.wholesaleimport.com/cgi-bin/item/11091 tied onto them with lanyards for instant access to remove those crazy jumping cactus branches in one quick motion while in the midst of the race. For dez riders this is a great butt bag item to carry. Side Note: Also In a nice local know how gesture, at all the checkpoints there were guys with pliers that upon request would yank the spines from you, before you entered the next timed sections. I spent a few minutes at one of these "grooming" stations to remove deep spines in my forearms that were into the muscle sheaths that actually were binding my movements, that is a weird sensation. The leg spines waited for after the ride was over,,, they just keep you from getting lazy and and keep you up on the pegs!!! RN

    06/20/10 Corral Canyon

nice , there is still a little water up there,,, and green!! about the bees not the beez, grew up in LI NY we had those pesky yellow jacket under ground condos throughout the woods. I leave nature alone now but when young (and excitable) we attacked one nest with a spray can of raid taped to the on position. After the condo owners went to sleep we dug it up,,,,,,,its was amazing, it was like 5 levels deep of wasp hive, about a foot to foot and half deep into the ground and about 10-12 inches around. Yes they do build underground nests. PS another weird bee story, up near the tower at Corral there are those trail signs along the intersections, there was one a few years back that was infested with those other strange bees. Those big black wood boring bees that drill almost perfect holes into wood. Carpenter Bees those things are interesting but bizarre.

Suggestions for Best Way to Clean Motorcycle

just read the MSDS for simple green, to check the the possible solvent/chemicals that might breakdown seals. I see that it does disperse fatty materials (grease, oil) and could in the end leave surfaces dry and oil free leading to UV damage or drying. But it is recommended as an engine and heavy equipment degreaser/cleaner, so in my opinion there is no data to back up that simple green actually attacks rubber/viton etc seals. Just get all the soapy stuff rinsed off well and maybe do the post clean detail. (my choice) is this stuff http://www.maximausa.com/shopping/index.ph...;products_id=36 just watch it, where you spray it , it is slippery!!
  17. Motorcycle USA journalists, coming into San Diego area are looking for Miltary and retired Military riders for focus on service member interviews. By chance, do you know any military men or women-- currently active or retired, that have motorcycles. We're looking for some to profile. Let me know. Thank you. What's new? Hope all is terrific. We're fine over here, but I do miss San Diego!"

Suggestions for Best Way to Clean Motorcycle

the dirt cleaner brands like Muck-off, S12 etc have the ability to dissolve baked on mud/clay. if you follow instructions plus add some elbow grease (brush or rag) you can find great results. Pressure washers are fine just be aware of where you are spraying (the pros use them all the time). spraying into any bearing area is a non no, but all surfaces are go, watch any graphics and easy on the grips (Ive seen someone eat holes in them with his washer) I use simple green as post ride cleaner as well (the bike brand cleaners are a little costly). Make suer you run the bike after clean up to heat cycle and cook off and standing water. I also lay the bike on both sides to drain off before starting, and do a good overall drying job. finding different shaped brushes is good thing to get all the hard to reach spots.

    Renewed DS rider! (smiley face)

well in the midst of the disassembly I installed the UpTite Husky single pipe with the supertrapp type end. Good thing doing the all out redo,,found the boot off the airbox with some dust and sand insde. among other issues that would have been a pain later,, put some minor bling Ebay front fender graphics, husky bar pad. new grips, and overall clean up and lube chassis she is coming along well. should be ready for next week. gotta do the oil and check valves and cam chain slop. May buy a TC type chain guide, not a big fan of the TE floating bar type, they bend and wear fast. may need fork seals
  21. I have been balancing my dirt bike wheels for years now, this is very noticable on faster flatter areas (ie roads for DS machines) I recommend everyone do it even if exclusively off road riding. It reduces fatigue and vibration on the machine as well as on the rider. If you dont notice it off road as soon as you hit the pavement you will. My technique is to use the stickon road type weights and then smear as bead of 1211 3 bond silicone seal around them. Sometimes a stick or rock will strip them off, just redo the weights. They really dont come off easy, so once installed they remain stuck on well. The rim lock is the biggest culprit for imbalance but there is always a little offset from the tire and tube as well. so Just Do It, Pull 'em and balanced 'em, you and your bike will be more happy. enjoy the smooth ride. RN PS I forgot there are other methods, like the crimp on spoke weights and even the lead wire spoke wrap technique, which ever you use, seal with some type of silicone to help them remain in place.

    Renewed DS rider! (smiley face)

Thanks BS, I am anxious to do some DS stuff and join the fun. PS I am also in process of installing the expensive and very heavy but bullet proof Michelin Ultra HD tubes (Michelin Ultras 4mm) in both ends of the tank like TE610. I keep seeing all the flat tire/blown tube slagging and dont want be at the end of that joke!! I still have one of the best flat stories to tell...........just ask about it some time. I usually run just the HD 2.5mm tubes in my TXC.
  24. just be careful out there on weekends for on coming traffic, especially on the normal Lark trails/paths. enjoy the ride
