Who can tell me about Husaberg?

Since 2003 all H-bergs have been built and assembled in the KTM Mattighofen plant, under their processes. There is alot of parts compatibility among the ancilliary stuff, brakes, chain, sprockets, wheels, bearings, bars, controls and even ther motors have common parts (the KTM RFS motor is a direct descendent of the Husaberg single cammer which is a direct descendent of the Husqvarna single cammer). The price sounds really good if the motor is solid.Remember this is a (RFS) type motor, and needs all the care of a race machine, ie; lots of oil care (the biggest one) The issue for me with H-bergs is in their mantra of lightness they have an integrated subframe area, the chassis is all one piece (I like the removable subframe chassis'). This bike will reward with handling and light weight, its a good solid platform with lots of evolution behind it. PS yes its a boutique brand of KTM and can be expensive for upkeep, but if you are sharp with parts manuals I am sure you can find cross reference parts from the KTM and other Euro brand catalogs as well. Best of luck it, sounds like a good price for a cool bike.
  2. do you have to buy a nat license? I will got check out AMA's site and maybe try and get some people to go do some CA nat H&H's. you get your own nat number or use pie plate numbers? If you are an AMA card holder you can sign up as a Nat points rider (for AMA Nats)that was how I always signed up in 09. If you belong to D37 or D38 and are collecting points there it can be an issue because they may restrict you to a class and restrict your loops to less then the Pro/A/B full course. They issued me onsite PP numbers each time I signed, so it was not a set of yearly numbers like the pros get, also I think some of the District numbers are maintained for the D/Nat points chasers. Brad check the 2011 rules for H&H it will all be explained in the book.I would suggest signing as a National "B" class rider if you can because then you get to do the whole course, the issue may be for the Nat in the D38 zone if you are a recorded D38 Novice they will restrict you to less than the full course (this happened to a friend who really wanted to do the entire superstition Nat course and could have done it). Again, it feels good to see your name on the AMA website in the Nat points standing (its fun!!). I have my AMA 2009 H&H 7th place OA National Sen B certificate proudly hanging in the garage (fun stuff as a lifelong fan to have a single digit AMA nat cert!!!)(even if it is for the old guy B class!!) One thing is for sure when you finish a Nat H&H you really feel like you accomplished a real feat, those last loop sections were in all cases tough and took alot of mind over matter riding. At the 100s MC H&H final in 09 it really worked us and from a ZipTy racing pro's mouth directly the 10 version had the toughest section he has ever ridden, a boulder strewn ugly section worthy of extreme enduro, (tough stuff out there) but always doable for Bs, just not as fast as the As and pros do it.
  3. Cool Video! That single track looks like a blast, the kind of riding I like to do, always on your toes, never a dull moment. I cant sit still to watch TV but I can watch Mc vids like this no problem. From the looks of your speed I think you boys have ridden that trail before. Perfect conditions. What happened to the sound about 8:00 ? that camera sure takes a beating. BTW: Are you running a Rekluse on your 300 ? Dusty Dusty, The the 300 is a 2010(or maybe 09) 300XCWe with lots of good bullet proof stuff on it (Flexxbars for one) but no auto clutch. I think the sound defaulted as the battery wore down. Its not me with cam on the 3 hunny, I am red/wht on my Husky450 on point. yes some sections are familiar some are surprises.R
  4. I still recommend the ride, although I have only done it once after a week long rain in (00 or 01 I think, I know I was on my KTM250EXC) lots of "beginners" I was not at the front, but just ended up being bold but not an arse about passing many. Folks seemed more scared of the downhills and lots of bottlenecks were people dismounting to walk their bikes down hills or just stopped at the tops and looking down, I passed at leat 100 bikes in those spots. as for the long uphills passing was more difficult but I dont recall it being that bad. I remember a few technical spots that had some of us find alternates to avoid the carnage of tire burners. At the end of the day the trails were epic but again sometimes it was a slow speed conga line. I think the one time was enough for me, we have many other events that more intense and epic (Tractor Racing HS in Tecate for one). That said I still recommend the ride at least once as a must do adventure for the books. RN
  5. 31DEC2010 My end of the year souvenir, from the day's ride, a nice piece of manzanita lodged into my forearm (no crash). The conditions were beyond good out there and this happened right as we were heading towards camp from the back 40. No sweat rode in and removed it. Had to do some work on it to make it more managable for removal. rode again on Sun so it was a non-issue really.
  6. Brad, I may be in for some Nat H&Hs this year, stay tuned. And maybe a tough enduro or 2
  7. Thing is,,, even though its a basket case home garage rebuild, it was dialed in very well (airbox mod, pipe, jetted very well lots of new parts......however the little XR that could and should and would has not had the normal rob tlc and now is showing its unhappiness with its master. PS funny stuff is that Fran told me she loves the little machine and really feels safe and comfortable with the little honda even with its limitations. She prefers the very low XR to her sisters very well set up TTR125 (BBR cradle,BBR airbox mod,ProCircuit pipe, perfectly jetted, and better suspension and brakes). We shall see after she tries some other model machines??
  8. For Schwinn thanks for the afternnon snacks!!! Also because of the arrangement out there in the canyon/valley we all had full confidence that all was fine with Schwinn jr. And of course all ends well. Maybe a personal contingent plan for the future would keep things easy on the soul. We keep the stay where you are contingent if seperated, some one will always come back. Also thanks to the group for having Fran join the fun. and Happy New year all.R
  9. wow this grew!! hope to meet face to face with the inmates of SDAR!! A & B loops? See y all 2 morri
  10. Randy, What kind of range will be needed? 50-60miles? I still have no range data for my stock tank on the 610, but I have 1 gal carry containers to be safe. I like the idea of a 1000.... start.
  11. DD edit title for fri morn? or not

The resurrection of Bailey The KLX

great work DD!! Thats funny about the spring seat washers, those daggone Kawi gremlins musta ate em!!! That machine is another one of the best trail bikes made (Kaw has been good about the trailbike thing over the years). LR had some super trick ones built up in the nineties.R
  16. nice from both rides. did end up riding thurs at same location was a waste of time, lower back is completly wasted. Out on injured reserve for the moment, Mitch glad you did not show on thurs.

AMA / Kenda National Hare & Hound Series

I highly recommend doing at least one of these as a bucket list item, those D37 H&Hs are real adventure rides (the D38 version was tough too 09 version anyway not the 10 mudfest). Be prepared for tight rocky stuff, long sharp rocky trails, long steep climbs and scary steep descents, open dez and very technical as well, all while trying to maintain a decent pace, remain unfazed and finish a fairly long distance dez race. These are challenging events and when crossing the finish they bring real satisfaction. (2009 Nat H&H Sen B #7 OA) I highly reccommend these events.
  18. mccain epic conditions no other words needed.....just amazing

    mccain epic conditions

I'll bet it was. But I'm getting tired of (and a little too old for) having to change clothes in the pouring rain and wind, otherwise I would have been out there too. I did something a little new and different,,,went into the outhouse with my rug and gear and did the presto change-o in there out of the wind and rain, the air was a little foul....but what the heck.

    mccain epic conditions

+1,,,, sometimes I ride my boys RM125 out on the trail. with the right frame of mind.......aggressive and pinned in the power band with lots of clutch the thing just flys in and out of S/T corners, without tiring you out. I never took it into the rocks though. Man it sure sounds like your going 100 mph but really you going good but not crazy fast. Best of all you laugh and smile all the way. DD that WR125 is great machine and they can get into the garage for really good prices!!!

    mccain epic conditions

more than a couple of things, MSR rain jacket with the side angle zipper, new sidi crossfires (basically water proof), safety glasses (old school enduro glasses) or foam removed goggles with rainx, enduro vest under the rain jacket. hand guards taped or with MSR elefant ears, and my jaw chomper brux for when you get those cold shivers and clench!!. oh yea most importantly remember to bring your helmet (see my admission of stupidity)...........i rode with my ski beanie........not a good practice, especially for a safety fanatic like myself. I brought my freshly washed liner but left the skid lid in the garage. rode very easy and controlled at a casual trail pace away from too many rock sections.
