  2. I'm saving for my suspension stuff and planning on having Precision Concepts do it not sure whether I will go south or north tho
  3. I only dropped my bike once when I was trying to shortcut back to a road when I made a wrong turn. Had no trouble really on the snow/ice. I still need to get radiator guards, brake guards etc at some point I don't have those. Mike, even *I* didn't know how bad I was until after we got back I just knew we had to finish! gravel indeed sucks, so does sand for me, when they are combined with whoops even more so!
  4. should have had mike behind me banging some rocks together like coconuts

    'Terrible' T-Shirts

I got my 2 long sleeve larges
  7. I'd like to add 9. Make sure you eat something and drink constantly. Pretty sure that I was dehydrated as well as low blood sugar when I got off the end of the ride which lead to my feeling so terrible. I never should have accepted that a bottle of water in my bags was enough as it took to long to take off my helmet and drink so I didn't do it enough. Even though our high temp for the day was probably in the 50's I still should have had a snack and been drinking water all day. I'm really fortunate that when my concentration and strength went at the end of the ride I didn't get hurt BAD especially dealing with things like the downhill by the mine.
  8. I've actually got a time share on the end of the strip in Vegas, the part I most want to do again is red rock and around to mountain springs. That soft serve machine in the buffet was hidden! I found it but I was looking for quite a while
  9. Thanks for helping a new rider induct themselves in a trial by fire of dual sporting Kkug! And good job Jim on plugging away and getting it done.
  10. Kelly what is that second thing a tire changing stand? Something that doesn't come up much on dirt bikes is unsprung mass but this setup is supposed to shave a lot of weight over heavy duty tubes and stuff etc, removing 1lb of unsprung weight is the equivalent of taking 15lbs off other parts of a car at least that's the number I recall. So if you want your bike to "feel" like its 30lbs lighter this would be a good way to go Hobiee did you notice any of this when you switched to it?
  11. Yes thanks again everyone for making it such a memorable trip for all. The planning this year was even better than last years X-plane ride simply an amazing experience.
  12. AFAIK These are fine to run on the street at least I know a few people who have been doing it even on supermoto bikes from what I have read. Now don't take that as the gospel but I believe the company just does not want to pay for the hassle of the approval process needed to be DOT legal more than its a case of the product not being safe but I don't know. I was seriously considering it for a while but just didnt get around to it

    Best Insurance Company

I've had Geico insure all my stuff for about the past 10 years and have always been pleased. Easy to talk to someone on the phone or online anytime of day and they have always been helpful. I had a company that does insurance brokering that was partnered with the Dave Ramsey show try to beat my prices and they couldnt come close to Geico for my car or bike stuff.

    Got a "new" bike - XR400R

A lot of "old timers" will tell you they would take an air cooled older bullet proof motor for an off road bike anyday. The only thing "wrong" with the XR400 is lack of the button I rode my father in laws and really liked the bike except for that.
  15. Colors turned out amazing on those shots. the scenery was amazing, sadly I had my camera taking a picture every 30 seconds and found out after 480 pictures the battery dies which means it died at breakfast. I really wish I had saved the picture taking for the red rocks and over the rocky gap and mountain spring area, simply amazing. We had some morning confusion on riding group meet ups because there are not one but 2 Chevron stations one on each side of the Freeway. I ended up hooking up with blind_in_1_ear and it just being the two of us turned out great and we rode the whole thing which we were both very proud of. Also besides each having a stopped bike drop neither mike or I went down, got hurt, or broke our bikes I was totally wiped out when we got back and even went into a bit of a diabetic crash I think. I was dumb and didnt carry my camelbak so wasnt drinking throughout the day just when I grabbed a bottle out of my bag and I didn't eat any cliffbars or similar stuff post Bonnie springs breakfast. I'll post up the choice pictures that turned out well or make another slideshow video out of what I have soon. But right now I need to watch the Chargers cream the Jets. Was great meeting so many people I had not met before and our girl bike contingent had a whole 4 or 5 riders Jaynen, JimRobinette, dmulk, Crawdaddy, and Trailtrick If you did not ride the pass you need to go back there when whether is clear. I want to go again! Edit: My camera was pointed a little low and I could not decide on any music so youll have to play some of your own in the background. Video slideshow is uploading now

    I have a problem

So there have been some reports on the WRR of the chain rubbing the guide on the front of the swingarm (by the pivot) because the pivot is offset or something and not perfectly in line with the counter sprocket. I checked my bike before I went to LA for my new years ride and it was fine looked worn on the chain guide or "seal guide" as Yamaha calls it but ok. I checked it again when prepping for Primm and putting dirt wheels on and the thing is worn through and the chain has scratched into the end of the swingarm some. Not terrible but enough I can see some damage. I called up north county yamaha yesterday and the only one available in the whole nation was 1 in LA and I did not get a call today so I think that means I did not get it. That being said I am now paranoid going out to Primm with the chain able to eat at my swingarm and trying to think of a temporary solution. It's not determined what is causing the rubbing if its the suspension bottoming too much or otherwise allowing the chain to move against the guard or what. I could run the chain extra loose if that might help this but I would feel better if I could do something to protect the swingarm. I have not found anything on the online sites for cyclegear etc that I could just buy and slap on there even some flexible pieces of plastic that might resist wear I could stick or tape on there. Anyone have any ideas?

    Back tire 4 a twin ?

Most the big bike riders on ADV rider run the 908RR rears on the big KTMs IIRC more so the super enduro and guys riding harder off road stuff TKC 80 is more of a pavement fire road tire isnt it?

    I have a problem

Jay I have some old Husky chain rubbing material about 1 1/2" wide and about 6in long. It is about 1/4" thick. You are welcome to it if you think you can make it work. I can run it by Ken's shop tomorrow morning. Don Something is better than the nothing I have to try right now thanks Don

    I have a problem

Already ordered the new one so just need something to get me by. The guard on the bottom is literally eaten through so I don't know there is much left to attach something to. Trying to think if I have anything here that would be suitable. Maybe Ken (Joliet) will have some ideas, my bike is at his shop waiting for us to leave tomorrow.

My only concern is if I don't do anything and I ride anyway could I damage something severely

    I have a problem

Anybody want an Electric Dual sport?

Funny that you mention it. I contacted them for a demo and there is a guy in Oceanside who is a relative of some guy who is an executive or something but anyway he got a free one in order to do demo's. He rides it to work he has the Zero X and put the DS light kit on it. The DS and Supermoto model is heavier the MX and X model are lighter but if you can still register it by using a light kit the MX model would be the way to go. In one of the videos on youtube they say it has a switch to lock it to 30mph or under making it qualify for the bike lane according to california law as a motorized bicycle. Still kind of spendy though $$$ and the range is not enough to replace a dual sport but heck yeah if I had any property in city limits or something like that it would be a great thing for ninja off roading or building a track. I have not done the demo ride yet but the guy lives near me. I was thinking of trying to see if the company would be interested in showing up to some club event in the future but have not had time to pursue it That video is cool looks like it was sponsored by Quanya another maker of off road electric bikes Edit: 1 hour to charge on 220v connection 2 hours to charge on 110. The MX model at least they say the battery is under the seat and you can swap it out in under a minute, so depending on how much those battery packs cost for track riding you could maybe keep enough batteries charged to just swap em out
  25. You don't really get a feel for how big those rocks are from the road at all its nice to see someone up there for scale
