  1. That was a great race last night. Villapoto deserved that money, he totally dominated last night. Holeshot on the first 2 motos, but then he passed Alessi like he was standing still on the first lap of the last moto, and immediately pulled away from the field. Dungey looked good on the Pumpkin, except he was not very aggresive when he needed to pass someone. Still pretty impressive for only having a few days to dial in his bike. And Metcalf on a Suzuki for third, no Hondas on the podium at all.

  2. My WR450 had a head shake issue when I first got it also. Idid what DD said, and put the proper springs in for my weight ( racetech.com has a spring rate calculator) adjusted the sag, and also slid the forks as far down as I could all at the same time, so I'm not sure which one fixed it, or if it was the combination, but it went away. The other thing I have read is that the WR's are notorious for coming without proper grease on the steering stem bearings, and some have had bearing issues because of it. I am thinking even a loose nut could give you the same symptoms . Both are easy to check, and could save you a bunch of money on a stabilizer if it fixes your problem. Good luck.

  3. I guess the BLM got the memo...

How was your race jeff? I didnt get my act together in time to make but ill be out there to help put on the OTB race in 2 weeks. Bring your friends....

I sucked ( but not in a homo way). The bomb run was really short, and funneled into a tight little canyon. I got a good start, but let myself get pushed into some big rocks off to the side of the canyon, and ended up bending my shift lever into the case and breaking my clutch perch. I made some repairs with a pry bar and duct tape, but was dead last from the start. I was too mad to ride well the whole first lap, but picked a few people off on the second one.

Justin Morgan made my trip down to the desert worthwhile though. On the start of the second race he found a lip to hit way to the left of the tight part of the little canyon and flew over the crappy main line to some sand above and railed though that to get back on the course. It was a little longer way around, and may not have been any faster, but it was very impressive.I know of one person that got it on video, hopefully someone will put it up.

  4. jeff, are you heading out today?

Nope, I wanted to make it to Carlos' memorial, but family obligations aren't going to let it happen. Heading out early tomorrow.

I knew you were like that... all inclusive and everything... I wish I could make it... wait... thaty didn't come out right.... I wish I could go down... wait... i was planning on coming... oh hell

    have a good weekend

That's too bad, I've been wanting to go for a good ride with you, BS.

  5. Thanks Randy for the reminder to anyone hooking up a generator to use a transfer switch or isolate your house from the system. It could literally kill me or another person if you backfeed the system. If you aren't sure about how to hook it up, DON'T. An extension cord to the fridge and other essentials is the safest way. Thanks.

Back to the main post, we try to keep our trailer stocked up for emergencies also, although the only thing we used from it was a couple of flashlights and the aforementioned Costco battery lantern. We just made some sandwiches and went outside to enjoy the stars until we went to bed. Not really an emergency to be without power for one night in my book.

  6. Lineman,

That pole was still in good shape,,,why you replacing? Is that 12kv / last pole on the circuit?

    Cuyamaca or Laguna?

    The plank,,,never seen that move.

It didn't show up in the pictures, but the pole had been attacked by woodpeckers, and had a decent horizontal crack about half way up. It is 12kv, but de-energized for our work. We were working off of the S-2 near RD's log cabin.

  7. And get bushings as the originals are toast and probably the reason the forks leaked.

My bike is only 3 years old, but I replaced my seals once already and it is leaking again, after maybe 3 or 4 rides on it. Does this still apply? Do I need to do the bushings this time as well?

    Sorry for the hijack.

  8. The only one on my list that I've actually rode was So. Utah, the others are just places I've read about and want to ride. I'm sure everyone's definition of "epic" is different, but mine is pretty similar to yours.

I thought of a few more, the TAT, and the Oregon Backcountry Discovery Route both should get epic status.

  9. Crusty's post got me thinking about what rides/riding areas everyone considers "epic". I've got a couple on my list:

Southern Utah (Yes, that is too vague, but there is a ton of great riding there, and it seems like you can ride from one area to the next throughout the whole region.)

    Kennedy Meadows

    Mammoth Mtn.

    Bar 10

Baja (please don't turn this into a discussion on whether it's safe or not, I think everyone agrees the riding is epic)

    Any others?

  10. I had a good time on both of the tracks I rode. I could have done laps on the Carlsbad track all day, but the main one was pretty cool too. I was really surprised how different 2 tracks right next to each other could be. Once I pay off some bills I am going to look for a track bike, the suspension on mine is still too soft, and I can see how a lighter bike could be a big advantage on a track.
