    Chile Honda Hero

You just got the name wrong. Instead of Honda Hero, check out Hero Honda. The third largest manufacturer of motorcycles in the world. Number one is Honda, two is Yamaha, and three is Hero Honda. http://www.herohonda.com/products.htm

    Building a work bench...

Put a stainless steel top on it. Build yourself a tray (stainless steel) 4 to 6 inches wide, 4 to 6 inches deep and long enough for fork springs to lay in. Mount it to the front edge of your workbench and make it detachable. Now you have a place for your oily parts that is easily accessible.

    Gravel/Dirt Road techniques

Watch the clip from On any Sunday. The rider is making a left turn and his front tire is turned to the right, counter steering. When you’re power sliding you don’t have to worry about your front tire washing out. Your rear tire is your problem tire. Too much throttle will put you down, low side. Power sliding requires COMMITMENT. Once you enter a corner you have to be committed to the entire corner. If you cut the throttle for an instant the bike will go straight in the direction the front wheel is headed. That’s what happens in speedway racing when you see a rider go straight into the wall.
  4. For half the year, you are stuck to private property Not me. I have a Green Sticker two stroke. I also have a Green Sticker on my freezer in the garage but that's another story.
  5. ! Barry, curious do you know the line procedure for these Nat H&Hs ,, ex. how many and in what order, thanks R Five row start Expert Amateur Novice Beginner Quad In a previous thread someone was asking if they needed a Green Sticker on a plated bike. The answer is NO. A plated bike is allowed to go anywhere a Green Sticker bike can go, racing or otherwise. The race flyer says "Green / Red OHV Sticker Req’d", that does not apply to a plated bike. Here is a link to the DMC flyer. Click on events and then 2009 DMC race flyer. http://www.desertmc.com/home_fr.htm
  6. I'll be there. Will come up Sunday early. Be with the Vikings. I'm a Super Senior so I'll be on the first line. It's nice starting on the first line, Experts. When I race a Grand Prix my wife tells me I race with the old men, little boys, and women!

    Suspension

To set your sag bounce your bike up and down a few times and measure from your axle nut to a point on the rear frame (behind the seat). With all your gear on get on the bike and bounce up and down again. Remain on your bike, put a hand against a wall for balance. Have someone measure from the same two points again. The difference between these two measurements should be 100mm or 4 inches. Adjust your spring tension accordingly. To tell if you have the right spring bounce your bike up and down a few times and measure from your axle nut to a point on the rear frame (behind the seat) again. This is a new measurement. Put your bike on a stand and with the rear wheel off the ground measure again. The difference between these two measurements should be 25mm or 1 inch. If this measurement is greater than 1 inch you need a heavier spring, if less you need a lighter spring. To adjust your rebound find yourself a good set of whoops. Progressively ride faster and faster through them. If you feel like your suspension is getting hard it is packing up on you. You need more rebound. If the rear is bouncing from side to side you have too much rebound. When the rear wheel is off the ground the shock is returning too fast making the bike kick from side to side. You want to be able to ride through the whoops straight as an arrow.

    Copy Cat

It would be a good time to take RiderOrange? and Carguy's Dirt Bike School and learn the basics.
  10. People in the Sky Valley area by Palm Springs started doing the same thing. It got so bad that Riverside County put street signs up on the dirt roads to show they were public roads.

    Happy Birthday Barry

Aaron and everyone else thanks for the birthday wishes. I don't get on line much during the week. Im working at Fort Irwin teaching soldiers the BRC, ERC, and traffic safety. Went to Fort Rucker last month and went through the MSF Sport Bike School (only going to be taught to the military). As soon as we get the range approved at Fort Irwin we will begin teaching. I tell everyone that has a dual sport bike how neat the Desert Dash is and try to get them interested in dual sport rides. This fall I will probably take over the dirt bike school at Fort Irwin. Can't see doing it now in the heat. Barry
  12. Here is my first try at video on the web. Thanks Sandiegoland.
  13. I took some video of the ride but don't have any editing software. Thinking about buying PowerDirector 6. Anyone have any opinions on good easy editing software?
  14. The winds suck but we're on our way.
  15. A friend Jimmy and I are leaving Palm Springs at 5:30. See you there.
