New tire shop - 8ball tires - kearny mesa
baldbeemer replied to TrophyHunter's topic in Support Your LOCAL Shops
So I had a very pleasant experience with 8 ball tires today. The wife made the appointment online and I received a confirmation text from the shop, thought that was cool. I was made to feel welcome and they really had their act together. All I was doing was getting some tires mounted that I had bought online. He let me know that he was the founder of Bike Bandit and sold it off a couple of years ago but still retains the buying power to get anything that can be bought online for a very competitive price. Walk in price to mount and balance 2 street tires was $55, pretty fair I thought. I will be a repeat customer for sure. -
Escondido BMW and San Diego BMW

Dave Campbell is an honest and reliable option, one that I have used to put in a clutch on my first 1150GS. BUT, he's a one man operation and this job is an all day deal for him that he may not have time to do. The last time I was at his shop he had 10 bikes out front waiting for service. As for SDBMW, they are our primary shop for all service. We've had excellent service and quality work but due to some major turnover this past year, they are struggling a bit to regain their previous prowess. I have no opinion one way or the other on Esco, I don't go there if I don't have to... -

Don't know which dealer you took it to for mounting but SDBMW only charges $25 per tire if you bring them in off the bike. -
+1 for FTP. They were able to get me a very fair deal on a MT43 for the Mistress' KTM 450 on very short notice. Don't recall the OTD price but thought it was a fair price under the circumstances....

Clean looking plated '06 WR450 over on the ADV FM Seller is asking for $3k I think the seller is also a member here but I don't recall her screen name.... For sale is a 2006 Yamaha WR450f: The bike is plated in California, runs well and just received a full professional service from a local San Diego dealer. The extras that are installed on this bike include a GPR steering stabilizer, FMF pipe, McClain front suspension, Acerbis hand guards, and frame/sub-frame guard. The previous owner removed the light wiring harness with a Baja designs switch (which I have). This is a strong running and performing green sticker bike with both electric & kick start. $3,000.00

Dixie National Forest, Utah
baldbeemer posted a topic in 1 to 3 Day Ride Write-Ups, Stories and Photos
The Mistress and I haven't been doing much offroading for the past couple of years so we were due for some dirt. We ended up going to Duck Creek Village in the Dixie National Forest, Utah. The attraction was the smooth dirt roads that were friendly for a novice rider that have fall color and red-rock. I would definitely recommend this for those with big bikes, novice riders or just a family outing that could go out on quads or UTV's. The forest is very offroad friendly and non-plated bikes/quads/utv's are ok on the forest roads. The full RR is posted over on ADV -

I've had several BMW's..... '00 1150GS, '04 1150GSA, '06 R1200RT, '15 R1200RTW, '07 G650X and have ridden a fair shair of other bikes through the years. My BMW's have fit me very well and through the ergonomics, places me into a natural position to have good posture. That and like Bikeslut says, I have a golden spoon up my posterior.

Good read, Roger. Thanks for sharing this trip with us. There were probably 10 photos that could be considered for the front page.....Looking forward to the next chapter. -

Scooter for the lil' lady? Input from those who know?
baldbeemer replied to Dan Diego's topic in Open Discussion
The Mistresses' progression went something like this: 1. MSF course 2. Later that same day went out on KLR250 3. First time she had to get on the gas to ovoid getting run over... 4. Bought DRZ 400s 5. Started commuting from Ramona to UTC on the DRZ 6. Got BMW F650GS (Twin) for commuting duties, DRZ relegated to recreational DS only. 7. Udgraded DRZ to KTM 450EXC 8. Upgraded street bike to BMW F800GT She's still not a huge fan of offroad but we are planning a trip to Utah later this year for mild dualsporting to see the sites. Started off nice and slow with some fundamentals and since then she's become a daily moto commuter and have completed several long street camping trips off the street bikes. Best of luck!! -
Hey all, I saw an ad for Bohn body armor in cycle world magazine. Their stuff looks good and I thought their prices were reasonable. Before I commit to anything I wanted to see of anyone has tried their products. Here's their site The product I'm specifically looking at is the Dakar armored shirt. Z (mistress of the dual) likes the ugly shirt too, but she is a little different Thanks, BB

Big Bike Training Day November 8th At Motoventures
baldbeemer replied to stoke's topic in Upcoming Organized or Promoted Rides and Events
Did the SDAR group class a couple of months ago and it was a really good time. That class wasn't geared towards big bikes but would've been interesting if someone had shown up on a GS. This one's on a work weekend for me or else I'd really consider taking the 650 out. -
I can only say this; not everyone can pull off the shaved head look. For the record, I only shave half my head, the rest is au-natural.
