  1. Watched it from the news 8 website. Typical enviro-nazi that doesn't understand how anyone can have fun riding a motorized vehicle in the desert. At least they allowed a response from the SDORC prez. I wonder how much of that interview was edited out?
  2. Yup the DRZ is great for water crossings. I still miss the yellow submarine......

Ken, warm up that new Road King and hit the road! Street biased bikes can still get you there after the pavement ends.... Eel river/Richardson Grove campground in the Giant Redwoods...From a trip in 2011 RR here
  5. I have alien feet and am always struggling to find a quality boot that will fit me comfortably. I already have a decent pair of Sidi's that worked OK but I had to buy extra big to accommodate my toes. I just bought a pair of Gaerne SG-10's because I heard they had a wider toe box that might work for me. I bought them on Ebay at a price low enough to justify the risk. They fit perfect front to back but are just slightly too tight on the sides of the toes. If I push down on the front of the boot it flatten's out and is perfect for my feet. How can I make the boots form the shape I want? Voodoo oil? Snake Spit? I know that if I just wear the heck out of them they'll eventually get that perfect comfy fit we're all hoping to achieve. What can I do to help this process along?

Thank you for all the good advice. I will try to make them fit before trying an alternate brand.
  7. Work gets in the way of yet another ride I want to do. Damn.

Yeah, when I tried a pair of Alpinestar's, all I could do was laugh. Not even close.

New to S.D. & Excited to Find SDAR

Wolfgang, welcome to the forum. I've had a couple of 1150 Gs' over the past few years, but didn't attempt a brake fluid change. You have an excellent BMW dealership that is a big supporter if this club just 10 miles to the north of you. They offer loaner bikes during service, so need to truck it in. Another good option for for service is Dave Campbell in Santee. Small shop, one man operation but fair prices and good work. Also in Santee try FTP (Full Throttle Powersports)for tires. I also do street rides and have days off during the week, so can avoid the parade of pirates that occurs every weekend around here.
  14. Unfortunately the timing of this conflicts with a planned horse camping trip with the Mistress. Otherwise I would be very much IN. Looking forward to reading the RR. Z and I are already confirmed for Deb's next Coon Creek Cabin event, so I will have to wait a little longer for Big Bear. Bum, glad to hear that you're healing up; looking forward to riding with you again soon.
  15. That's what the sign at the gate said..both Lusardi and Upper Santa Ysabel eventually end up with a gate. This is the one I'm referring to..My link
  16. OK All gates are open! The only closed gate is at the very top of Upper Santa Ysabel TT, but that's normal. Orosco, Lusardi and the cross-over trail to Black Cyn rd are all open. Heads up on Upper Santa Ysabel though, never seen it so rutted and rocky. Not too bad below the cross-over, but above that is pretty shot out. Didn't ride Lusardi, just checked the gate. Squirrels were out and didn't want to risk another SQUIRRELS"S REVENGE episode. Ya'll have a good ride tomorrow.
  17. I'll make a run out there and check gates today.

  19. Are you a licensed ham guy? I was going to suggest we try to use the palomar repeater on this ride. Affirm KJ6MNE
