  1. In this case it looks like the camera was lying in wait! Oh, and thanks for all the work on the ditch bridges! The summer storms ripped up those trails bad.
  2. Looking at this post has been more frustrating than going to the purple roof!!! Flippin tease!!! arrggg />/>/> The bar has been called out by PbdBlue. Here's where everything is: Benton.pdf
  3. We sent someone after the horses with a GoPro. Will have to wait and see if more becomes available.
  4. One other thing that slowed us down, HORSES. The high country southeast of Mono Lake appears to be the territory of about 200 horses. They own it and they know it. The old jeep tracks in the area are their highways. They'll go cross country but prefer the jeep trails and are stubborn to get off of them. When we saw the first herd or two we were excited and thought it was very cool to see them in the distance, all different sizes and colors. Then herds kept merging on to the trail we were on, we had to back off, it was like following a trophy truck's dust wake. Surely after a half mile or two they would pull off the trail because we scare them? No way, they own that place, they weren't scared, just bothered by us passing through. Every time we thought we'd passed a herd that pulled off the trail, a herd pulled in front of us around the next hill! Finally I wanted to see just how bothered they were by our presents, since they weren't scattering. A herd was moving along about 25 mph in front of us, so I throttled up to the rear of a heard on the jeep trail, nudging closer and closer. I got right behind a silver/grey one, off to the side, just out of hoof distance. No response from the house, he could see me right there. I pulled up right beside it, two arms lengths away from him, I looked him right in the eye. I could tell I was distracting him but the horse held its course with the rest of the herd, not scared. I backed off because I didn't want to distract it that he might trip or stumble, and the dust was thick enough to be hazardous to my navigating too. Eventually we got past the bulk of them and got to pick up our pace. The whole event was totally unexpected, surreal, kinda cowboy. I'll never forget it!
  5. Our group was discussing if that Silver Peak portion of the ride was worth doing in the future. Our consensus was that if that section is done in reverse it will be much more leisurely. Make that uphill downhill. The Mono View ride was much more mellow, except for horses and 50 miles of sand.
  6. Okay, a few more words for the 5000 quota. I'm Stoked you guys came up and gave it a GO! Indeed a great time! Definitely a ride that will put some hair on your chest... err on the back in some cases. It always seems like the mornings are a little too cold and breakfast too leisurely to get an early start to do everything planned, especially if there are multiple flats. Fewer pictures this year trying to get back to camp before dark. Random picts: Above Mono Lake, IN miles and miles of deeep sand Flat More flats

  8. This doesn't really answer your question, but go LED and save yourself 1500%. I just used this last night riding in the bush and it worked great! The mounting isn't as clean as the $350 model but with the savings difference zip ties work just fine for me. http://www.amazon.co...0?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    Suspension Shops

Dirt Dame helped me tune and revalve the XR400 forks on my XR250. It turned out great and made a huge difference. The price was very reasonable. I'm sure she can help with fork seals and new fluid. Close enough for you to ride to.

    Technically Dirty

The pictures above say it all. I avoid mud and water when ever possible unless on site conditions force feed it to me. The bike don't need it and I don't like to clean it. Although the picture below would have taken care of Bagstr's cleaning. Quite a 'Shock'ing out come for this guy!

    non-DOT tires, whats the penalty?

"non-DOT tires, whats the penalty?" Maybe others know better but I think it's a fix-it ticket. From my observation and experience Anza Borrego State Park rangers are aggressive about DOT enforcement. I'm sure they get a lot of slop over from Ocotillo Wells SVRA right next door. Got caught once hooligan riding around some industrial buildings by Carlsbad PD, non DOT tires on both bikes. The officers were not concerned in the least about them; just got a lecture about how loading bays are not MX tracks and that we were setting off alarms. Seems like the coastal city PD officers don't scrutinize too much on my non-DOT tires when they pull up behind me at a light. I don't worry about it much. Your mileage may vary.
  14. Two different trails, same name. What Schwinn is talking about: http://dualsport-sd.com/forums/index.php?/topic/15082-phantom-trail/ Legendary Helicopter Ride trail: http://www.dualsport-sd.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=287
  15. Fabulous adventure! Great photos! THANKS! I need a Nevada FIX. From my experience NorCal and NorVada Mexican food is WEAK compared to the SoCal equivalent. Even the Mexican owned and operated places can't get it right up there.
  16. Very cool! Thanks for the word, I've been needing that set up for my TE. The stock light is so bad that I won't even ride the bike on the trail within an hour of sunset.
  17. I have ridden Cow Mountain OHV a few times, last time about a year ago. To his defense there is a manageable dirt road that connects between Lakeport and Ukiah. He could have made it but he got lost out there and that's easy to do. Once off of the 2 or 3 main dirt roads at Cow Mtn it's all about 450cc or less. I've gotten plenty of pucker factor up there on my 250s and wouldn't want any bigger bike. Rutted out single track to the pegs in some places with huge oak and redwood roots crisscrossing your path, talk about a workout! Winter time is especially fun in the morning when the muddy hillside tracks are covered with an icy glaze. Goes to show how sole dependence on technology can let things get scary quick. Always carry a topo map if you're NOT an expert on the local terrain. At COW topos are usually available in kiosks at the OHV entrance.

    Trail report?

I'm fairly certain that that trail goes through the Pala Rez. Those guys don't like whitey on the rez without permission. They'll give some lumps if they catch you!

    Trail report?

Sad to say, there is no open connection between Palomar devide with Nate Harrison.:(/>

    Trail report?

    - Palomar Divide (where your link goes) is OPEN - Halfway Truck Trail was close the one time I tried to go up that way - Barker Valley Spur is CLOSED. A very nice place to hike in and camp tho, rumor has it that there's native trout in the West Fork of The San Luis Rey up there.

    A sunset from Rainbow

Nice solo ride! That's good stuff out there, thanks for sharing! I've been spending a fair amount of time exporing east and north of Rainbow over the last few months. Lots of goodies and some super secret hidden treasure out there. DezRunner, looks like you found a road or two I haven't been on yet.

Some of the new phones have induction chargers, no plug-in worries there. The question is if there are any that will run/charge from 12V?

What is the Best High Performance Enduro Bike?

This thread has done it's job and gotten me thinking... Might have to consider spinning off the Husky at some point for a plated KTM 350 EXC. I need a little more out of my middle bike. It's mostly a tight gear tranny thing tho, too buzy at speed. The athena bore has plenty to give engine wise.

What is the Best High Performance Enduro Bike?

I'm biased, I'd rather ride single track than top speed desert. When in doubt I will always take the small bores. I'd rather ring out a 250 going down a dirt highway to get good single track than take the PIG and miss out or get it stuck in a hole.
