  1. Camp off bike? Motels? Chase truck?
  2. Quotes from the ride. Crusty: "It's easy, I got your line right here!" (From 300 feet up the trail) Kato: "Does it get worse than that up there?" Sneeker: "Nah, just different" That was one my funnest group rides at the spot! I had a blast! Kato, thanks for posting this ride. Crusty, thanks for being our fearless leader. All rode well. A few minor tip-overs, no carnage. Great group chemistry, great ride. Good times!. Everyone, nice to meet you, lets ride again soon!
  3. I called the Kern River Ranger District, Kernville Office (760.376.3781) and interrogated them about the USFS order & trail closures. Yup, that order was rescinded, it is no longer a restriction! That same order was posted on TT, in the KM ride thread. And if the TT hordes are reading their trip thread, they won't be on the trails cause they don't know that order isn't being enforced! Still, I don't know if we're going there now that the decision has been made to go to the Piutes.
  4. I've been there once. This is the USFS order, with map. http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprd3797888.pdf Only till July 15th, but that doesn't help this weekend, if true. Maybe have to call the ranger office again and ask them about this USFS order?
  5. We have a change of plan. In light of the trail closures, and squid hordes organizing a Kennedy Meadows invasion on thumpertalk, we are going to the Piute mountains instead. Have fun!

    helmet light

A helmet light is invaluable when going down sudden, steep transitions in the dark. Before you commit, your bike's light just blazes out into the distance, no light on the transition drop. Is it 3 feet or 10 to the bottom? Rocks, ruts, how steep? Can't see. With a helmet light you can aim the beam down into the transition just before you commit, assess, adjust, keep your momentum and keep up with your friends. The Ebay El Cheepos have treated me well. 7. Does anyone have a lead on a good plumber? I need to have a water heater replaced in Encinitas. Thanks
  8. We will be camping at KM that weekend. A few of us on KTM 200 & 300s looking for some challenging trails. Might be fun to coordinate some riding, will send a PM.

What oil are you using in you 4 stroke

    Best stuff out there!
  12. So. . . how many you guys drank the Facebook coolAid? The gift that keeps on giving . . . or taking? How does one divorce from that?
  13. If you saw a black KTM, an orange KTM and an old beat up red XR, that was Sneeker and Co. We did a circumnavigation of the Palomars from Vista; via San Marcos dirt, Rainbow dirt, secret Temecula stuff, Palomar Divide trail, hit the Stagecoach and Hideout watering holes on the way, down Black Canyon, 78 (5:30ish), and finished up with an unofficial recon of the Cocos Fire burn area. That burn was less extensive than I'd imagined, no burnt structures evident. But the tractor crews cutting fire lines F***ed things up way worse than the fire did, totally obliterated the trails, at least between Elfin Forest Rec Reserve, Franks Peak and San Elijo Hills. I didn't get to see the damage north of there tho, that's where the houses are.
  14. Yah, did you find the nudie girls at the top of the second photo?
  15. Caveat Emptor Señor, Caveat Emptor.
  16. Yup, Caveat Emptor. The back fees are meant to punish the current owner/seller who fails to keep up the registration. The seller either pays the State the back fees and sells full price, or discounts the price of the vehicle so the buyer can pay the back fees when registering because they got a great deal. The buyer has to perform their own due diligence to know the risk and negotiate a deal. The websites pointed out above make this easy enough. I think the only thievery going on in these examples is by the previous owners who sold the motos. Not the State's fault in these instances. Caveat Emptor!

    Motorcycle test help

After 15 years of riding I finally took the test a couple years ago. Two key things: - If you can, take a practice ride on the test course. I often see people doing that at nite over in O'side DMV. - As an alternative to modulating the clutch, dragging the rear brake slightly helps make the bike less jumpy when applying the throttle. That method allowed me to pass the test on a XR600. Good Luck!
  18. OK, 11am? Behind AMPM gas just off Deer Springs Rd.
  19. Some northeast possible. Kato, this is your thread. What time is good for you to ride?
  20. 10 or 11am is good for me. I'm on my XR250. Bring whatever displacement that will scratch that itch. However, a plated moto offers more options for exploring. . .

    Tire Recycling

Any tire shop will take your old motorcycle tire for free. But timing is key, best time is 1am in the morning. No questions asked, ever.

    Dihydrogen monoxide

To think i was washing my motos with this! Dihydrogen monoxide: • Is called "hydroxyl acid", the substance is the major component of acid rain. • Contributes to the "greenhouse effect". • May cause severe burns. • Is fatal if inhaled. • May cause electrical failures and decreased effectiveness of moto brakes. • Has been found in excised tumors of terminal cancer patients. Despite the danger, dihydrogen monoxide is often used: • As an industrial solvent and coolant. • In nuclear power plants. • In the production of Styrofoam. • as a fire retardant. • CIA Interrogation activities. • In the distribution of pesticides. • Even after washing products remain contaminated by this chemical. • As an additive in certain "junk-foods" and other food products.
