  1. Clue #3 This Ghost Rider rode the Death Valley 650 Last Year. Acutally it was more like the Death Valley 1200 as this Ghosts Rider rode his bike from SD to Ridgecrest friday night , then rode the 3-Day Death Valley 650 Dual Sport Rally, and then rode home on the third night getting home about 2AM. Can you name this now infamous Ghost Rider?
  2. Clue # 2 This Ghost Rider toured the state of Arizona last year on a bike(no trailers & steet/dirt) and met up with SanDiegoland at the Mongolian Rim and in Gila Bend. This Ghost Rider even assisted fixing SanDiegoland's V-Strom when it encountered clutch problems in the middle of nowwhere. Can you name this now infamous Ghost Rider?
  3. Ken, you are very close. This person's initials are SH, not SS. Here is a clue. He rode a BMW 650GS Dakar.

    BMW F800GS

There was a very good writeup in one of the Dirt Rider magazines by Jimmy Lewis who did an international competition with journalists of various countries on the bikes My summation from what I have read on forums from owners, in magazines etc would be it's going to be worse off road than a KLR650 It's heavy and won't be doing anything harder than gravel roads etc at a fast pace, and it will wear you out because of it. It can slog through some pretty gnarly sections if you arent trying to go fast though. Grant rode his through some pretty gnarly sand and it was miserable for him. Once he got back to pavement I am sure it was a lot nicer. The bike is heavy compared to ?. Jimmy Lewis did the Paris Dakar on a 1150GS Boxer and finished in the top ten.. Jimmy is about 5 foot 4 and weighs about 150lb. This bike is not a dirt bike, but definitly a fine bike in the dirt. Have any of you followed Mad Dog Mike on his 1200gs?

  9. The next ride is Sunday May 3rd and we will be there again. The Ghost Riderz were riding BMW's , thus it was not us you talked to. If you sign up for the ride, you get 15% off accessories 7 days prior to the ride. Besides that, it was a nice leisurely ride. The people at Temecula Motosports are very acomodating.
  10. The Ghost Riderz participated in this ride. It was a nice afternoon of fun. Found some new areas to ride, and met some new riders. The ride next month is going to Bee Canyon up to Idlywild. They had a huge motor home with all the food that met us on the trail for lunch. For $15.00 you got breakfast, lunch, a nice tee-shirt-and I one a Camelback at the raffle. About 50 riders.

    BMW F800GS

The BMW wheels on the F800GS are not like the others. The are standard spoked rims not spokes connected to the outside part of the rim, so tubes are required. Personally I'd rather have tubeless rims on a bigger bike. Punctures from piercings are far more common for me than splitting or a chunck coming off. With a tubeless, puncture repairs are a breese, with tubes a pain to repair or change the tube. Also you don't get the dredded pinced tube with tubeless or valve stem ripping out. There are probably lots of points of views for both sides. Since most of my riding for now is on the street and hardpack I'll stick with the battle wings. They are great on the street and do very well on trails and hardpack. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Yes, the only BMW with the offset spoke design is the 1200GS. All the other BMW's have the standard spoke set up that require a tube. Even the 1200GS guys simply carry a tube just in case they tear a tire. They have the best of both worlds. The TKC 80 is the tire of choice. This is a "tubeless tire" by design, but requires a tube on a standard design spoke rim. There are not any negative affects using this tire with a tube. This tire is even "BMW APPROVED" for this use.

    Enduro rider Fatality in NC

Had an associate die two weeks ago in Glamis. One bike on one side of the razor back, and another came over the top and hit him. Manslaughter charges are being forcasted. What a drag!
  13. The real issue is not that the gov. wants a loan from the OHV fund, the issue should be why is there 90 million in funds laying around that should have been put to good use to keep trails open, improve riding area's with amenities, signs, and to purchase additional OHV area's.

    Any Easy Out experts?

If there is enough threads left, just use a shorter bolt. If not, spray the area with PB Blast Penetrating oil (can get it at Auto Zone), and then use an easy out. Should come out with no problem........
  15. Bush to Relax the Endagered Species Act Postby kevin on Wed Dec 31, 2008 2:18 pm Hopefully, this will help us Keep our Public Lands Accessible to Off Roaders: This article from USA TODAY Bush To Relax Endangered Species Regulations Before Obama Can Reverse Them WASHINGTON — Animals and plants in danger of becoming extinct could lose the protection of government experts who make sure that dams, highways and other projects don't pose a threat, under regulations the Bush administration is set to put in place before President-elect Obama can reverse them. The rules must be published Friday to take effect before Obama is sworn in Jan. 20. Otherwise, he can undo them with the stroke of a pen. The Interior Department rushed to complete the rules in three months over the objections of lawmakers and environmentalists who argued that they would weaken how a landmark conservation law is applied. A Nov. 12 version of the final rules obtained by the Associated Press has changed little from the original proposal, despite the more than 250,000 comments received since it was first proposed in August. The rules eliminate the input of federal wildlife scientists in some endangered species cases, allowing the federal agency in charge of building, authorizing or funding a project to determine for itself if it is likely to harm endangered wildlife and plants. Current regulations require independent wildlife biologists to sign off on these decisions before a project can go forward, at times modifying the design to better protect species. The regulations also bar federal agencies from assessing emissions of the gases blamed for global warming on species and habitats, a tactic environmentalists have tried to use to block new coal-fired power plants. Tina Kreisher, an Interior Department spokeswoman, could not confirm whether the rule would be published before the deadline, saying only that the White House was still reviewing it. But she said changes were being made based on the comments received. Story continues below "We started this; we want to finish this," said Kreisher. If the rules go into effect before Obama takes office, they will be difficult to overturn since it would require the new administration to restart the rule-making process. Congress, however, could reverse the rules through the Congressional Review Act _ a law that allows review of new federal regulations. It's been used once in the last 12 years, but some Democratic lawmakers have said they may employ it to block the endangered species rules and other midnight regulations by the Bush administration. Rep. Nick Rahall, D-W.Va., chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, said Wednesday that he and other Democrats were committed to "the change that is needed." Drew Hammill, a spokesman for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said the House will be looking at ways to overturn the endangered species rules and other midnight regulations. "The House, in consultation with the incoming administration and relevant committees, will review what oversight tools are at our disposal regarding this and other last minute attempts to inflict severe damage to the law in the waning moments of the Bush administration," Hammill said. The Bush administration has made no secret of its intent to complete the endangered species changes quickly. When the proposal was first announced in August, the public was initially given 30 days to comment. That period was later doubled after Democratic lawmakers pressed for more time. Then, last month, the head of the endangered species program corralled 15 experts in Washington to sort through 200,000 comments in 32 hours. "This is definitely lightning quick," said John Kostyack, executive director of the National Wildlife Federation's Wildlife Conservation and Global Warming initiative. "I would be surprised that they spent all this time rushing it through if it wasn't greased." If successful, the Bush administration will accomplish through rules what conservative Republicans have been unable to achieve in Congress: ending some environmental reviews that developers and other federal agencies blame for delays and cost increases on many projects. Supporters of the changes also expected it to be finalized later this week. The Pacific Legal Foundation, which advocates for property rights, urged that the rules be approved. "Litigious activists have used the Endangered Species Act to fight projects," Reed Hopper, the foundation's principal attorney, said in a statement. "The administration's current proposal is a step toward curbing these abuses." ___ On the Net: Interior Department: http://www.doi.gov
  16. I don't remember the rocky sections looking that difficult back in the 80s. I must have used to been a better rider and things like that didn't bother me, or the sections got worse looking from erosion. I also remember a barbed wire fence, but you could go around the edge of the property at that time. The trail that goes to the left, enters BLM Leased land whom uses this land to graze cattle. Not sure if there is an easement on the trail. This trial comes out on Sunrise Hwy. The one on the right I am not sure. I was up there last weekend in my truck, made it to the rocky section with the abandoned car. This rocky section is easy to pass on a bike. Check the trail out, and let us know. The Ghostriderz might have to do some recon!

    whats your line of work?

All this time I didn't know you were a Death Rattler. I cruised with those guys on the Connie three times. My dad served on the Connie CV 64-Long live the Kitty Hawk Class. I lived in Bremerton while it was being updated. Must have been in the the late 70's. Everyone knows the supply officers!
  18. Strega, you could be a potential Ghost Rider!
  19. That's a two way street What do you mean-the Ghost Riderz were there-Here is the proof. Photo - shop?? Ghost Riderz cannot be photo shop'd as they are invisible!
  20. That's a two way street What do you mean-the Ghost Riderz were there-Here is the proof.
  21. Some rare pictures of the Ghost Riderz at Afton Canyon 2008 LA-B-V. Doug-Strega-Crawdadd-Your secret is safe with me!!
  22. *Might* have something to do with the Ghostriderz usual starting time each morning , or should I say afternoon That could be a valid point? Some say the Ghostiderz are part Vampire, and some say that when you ride at night you leave no tracks.
  23. Geez, you're slowing me down already.... We'll see how we're running timewise when we get there and make the call..........we're already slated to visit Randsburg on the X-Plane ride in Jan so no BFD (to me) if we blow off Randsburg on the LA-B-V ride........hell, I won't even need gas in Johannesburg .....my focus is on reaching Barstow before Kevin, Randy the rest of the Czech community get there......I'd like to be showered and in the bar when the Ghoster's show up... The GHOSTRIDERZ have a habit of arriving after dark for some reason, this is part of the GHOST in GHOSTRIDERZ.
  24. It's just you and me in terms of our "immediate" group/pairing for the ride out/event/ride back......which is fine with me......I'm not too interested in riding with more than 3-4 (max) in our immediate group......that way we can keep the pace up where it needs to be in order to finish while the sun is still out on Friday/Sat.....still need to fine tune the plan/route for the way home on Sunday or Sunday/Monday...... - Kevin said he has ~6 or 7(?) Ghostriderz lined up....... - Randy is always a "definite maybe" on any given ride ........he'll probably make up his mind while eating turkey and stuffing on Thursday night before the event start on Friday morning - Strega was making some noise but the logistical hassle will probably knock him out...... [/quo We have 5 ghost riderz on ADV bikes this year on LA-B-V. Riding to Lancaster, then the ride to Vegas, then riding dirt home on Sunday. Crawdad-if you want to ride up from SD let me know-we will hit some dirt via Wrightwood on the way. Staying at the Best Western Palmdale thursday! The one in Lancaster is no longer a Best Western! If you want to know the route home on Sunday-you will have to show the secret handshake-or ride with us!
