Hi Ken, I recently started working in San Marcos. I would like to come over and meet you. It might be awhile to meet people on rides so if I have the opportunity to meet when I can that would be cool. Plus I would like to pick your brain on DRZ stuff. I need to put new fork springs in. Kelly

Maybe we could meet up sometime. I know over MLK weekend we are going out to Superstition area.

We just introduced our little guy to a motorized vehicle for the first time. Yahoo, he loved it. It was a little Kawa 50 quad that a friend let us use.
We just went for the day off Pegleg road. Now I need to start working on his two wheel skills.
Eric it looks like your little one is on a PW 50? I just picked up a like new XR 50, the price was to good to pass, I would be up for a temporary swap when your little one is ready for a bike with a auto shift like the XR has. I believe the PW is a full auto right?, and a little smaller. This is a offer to anyone with a PW50. Sorry if this is a Hijack. Kelly

They do come with the pig tales to hook to the battery. If you don't get one from the Super Store with todays sale I have them for $24.99. Extra pig tales for other bikes would be 5.99 each. Kelly

Work: I have had two real jobs since graduating HS in 1977 in newspaper production. 1977 we move to Ramona when main street only had one stop sign and worked for the Ramona Sentinel Newspaper. It was a weekly papers so as the week goes on your job changes. Start of the week I was a Photographer and Darkroom tech, then move to page layout, over to Pre-press, ok time to become a press operator, over to the mail room cause the papers where mailed to the houses so we put on the address and then drove the papers to the Post Office. I know it looks like I did the complete job myself but it took about ten of us all helping each other. 1982 I went to work at then the Times Advocate as a Press Operator and ended up in Production Maintance. It became the North County Times and after 26 years just recieved the layoff pink slip. Newspapers are not doing to well.
Hey I have read so much here about tires on your bikes that I in the works to start a Motocycle Tire Service. Tire sales and mount/balance. Tires will be orderd, low overhead by not stocking tires and you guys recieved the savings. How's that. Most tires take about two days to get. Right now PM with any questions.
Ride: First bike in 1971 Yamaha AT1mx, then Penton and rode 70s MX. then did the early ATC stuff to Quads with bikes in the late 80s with a Kawasaki KLX 250, KDX 175, Suzuki RMX 250, at this time MX was out and dersert was my thing. Famliy time out. Now ease back with Vintage and the Tour Bike and like the idea of Dual Sport.
I getting the DRZ in shape with the carb work and hope someone will be of help with helping put in new fork springs. I do need to do some of them other mods like the lock tight thing, free power mod for the battery and what not.
I do look some much for my chance to meet some of you and ride. Thanks Kelly

Yea that might help. O2 Cr 250

Brief intro to my possible deal. A after market Harley Repair shop that I deal with took in a Husky for repair.
They did sprockets, wheel bearings, carb clean , and lube cables. Starts and runs good, but the clutch basket is shot all grooved and so the clutch plates get all hung up. So the shop guys tell the customer the part is about $400, the customer left the bike. Its been over a year and many calls with no response.
They are going to put a lean on it and then I think I can get it for a couple hundred bucks. I have been trying to research the clutch parts. All the after market company's seem to only list Jap bikes? or do they not make clutches for the others. There was some mention on Thumper Talk that alot of different years Husky parts fit? So I have been searching e-bay but don't know if the many year thing is true and have not seen any 02 clutches.
So long story is if all this needs is a clutch and new plastics and I can get it for a couple hundred what do you Husky folks think?
Thanks Kelly

I missed the last one. Now that I have been laid off my job of 26 years I could use the help. I must admit that when it came to my modern bikes, I would take them to the shop to have the carb cleaned. This must stop but the 4 stroke DRZ just freaks me out, I have no problem pulling my vintage 2 strokes apart at any time, well I'm not to good with the points but most of them have cdi. Anyway my DRZ needs alittle help plus the maint day looked like fun. Thanks Kelly

When I ask about flat repairs on the trail last week, the Second Wind Pump was recommended by a few of you. I like the option of bottle and hand. I found a place to get them for 26.95, is this a pretty good price? Thanks Kelly
-
I talked to the computer guy's at my old job that rode bikes, and they said to take a old hard drive magnate and stick it to the bottom of your bike to set off the lights. I have not tried it but they say it works.
-
Wow that's a ton of great info and thanks for all the response. I didn't know there was a pump that would do both bottle and hand, I was worried that if I have just bottles I would goof up and not have enough air. How about the difference between spoons and irons, I know what each looks like but never had to use either?

Most of my riding in the past has been close enough to camp that if I had a flat I could limp back, but I have never had a flat yet. This season I hope to be able to join in on some of the longer rides like the 200 mile monument ride. What kind of kit do you more seasoned riders carry? Small air bottles or small hand pump, patches or tubes stuff like that. Thanks Kelly

I like San Diego Trailer on El Cajon Blvd. They added the brake system and Drive shaft disconnect to my Toyota Tacoma and the controller to my class A. Dave is the head service guy plus owner of the store. Very good place.

Here is a couple photos from the Grass Track MX, it's laid out with just hay bales and ribbon.
Rubber band start, I'm at the far right of the photo with the green jersey.
Off to a poor start, the last green jersey right behind one of my team mates.
Making up some ground with a pass on the outside. I ended up 5th

My day started Friday the 31st off to the airport to catch a flight to the 12th annual ISDT Reunion Ride. Time was tight as I arrived in Tulsa at 8pm and I needed to get my numbers on the bike and though tech and into impound by 10pm. All was good with one my two teammates picking me up and getting me to the ranch.
The bike passed all tech and ready for impound. Your bike is put in impound and cannot be removed only when you enter onto the course, then back to impound after your loop.
Ready for action.
Any work done to the bike must be done in impound or penalty points will be assessed.
Talking over ride plan for the morning.
Ok 6am and here is what I see in the impound area, a ton of bikes.
Not to mention very cool bikes
After a riders meeting the bikes head for the start, 4 bikes per minute.
Wow check out the tall guy, Hey you play basket ball? Yes I do. That's the Dunking Dutchman. 12 years in the NBA allstar Rick Smits for the Indiana Pacers on a 84 Husky. He can ride too.
So the first day will include 56.3 miles of Oklahoma rocks, trees and hills, 4 checks and 4 special timed test.
Me at the gas stop.
The ride was great, the little 100 tore it up and also my hand.
Not used to ride that many miles so hard
My score card for day one is perfect, the 32 matches the minute I started and I arrived at the checks on the right minute.
Dat two consist of 36.4 miles on the trail and a 5 lap natural terrain MX race, you race with others but its your time that matters
So I could go on and on about the event and the scoring and stuff but I will end the day on a good note.
Now the Gold doesn't mean you came in first overall, I was really 3rd. 17 seconds behind the 2nd place guy, you must maintain a certain time percent behind the fastest rider in your class to be on Gold Time. 5 golds were giving out in our class with over 20 riders in the class.
This is a bunch of the Hodaka riders that came from East and West to meet for the event. A high light of the photo is Dick Mann joining in, the little guy second from the right bottom row.
Our Hodaka club provided the markers for the course, I had John and Jack Penton sign one.
Now I can't wait to join some SD Adventure Riders for some local rides. Thanks Kelly

I off to the airport bound for Tulsa to compete in the AHRMA ISDT Reunion Ride. This is a run like a Two Day qualifier that you would ride to make a spot on the USA Six Day Enduro Team. The Reunion part is that veteran USA team members will be riding this weekend. Its all run just like a real qualifier over two days covering but with a little less mileage. About 60 miles cross country with special test sections and a 1 lap time qualifying run on a natural terrain MX track. Day two will start with about 30 miles cross country and end with a 5 lap moto with riders in your qualifying time range. Your bike is impounded after tech inspection and between days, only routine maintenance can be done.
I will be riding in the 100cc intermediate class for team and individual awards. I like the challenge of pushing the 100cc. The lights and license plate are required but don't need to really work unlike a real qualifier. I would prefer a up pipe but not many were available for this bike, this down pipe and the porting done gives this 100 the best low end pull so I hope there will not be many rocks.
If I can up-date from the motel I will otherwise I will be back on Monday. Thanks Kelly

I use to own a 2004 Yamaha TW 200 and recently sold it to my brother. I haven't ridden it in a long time, today I took it for a spin from Penasquitos to Escondido and forgot how much fun it is. I took the back roads, I saw somebody on Red KLR pass buy in RB. I hit the freeway between Pomerado and Via Rancho Pkw. I was thinking how fun it might be on Highland Valley up to Ramona. Any other TW riders in the group. Kelly

They guy I bought my DRZ from had just mounted a Dunlop D803 trials tire? I run them on my trials bike and know what they feel like at about 0 to 20mph running a trials event, but how is it going to be on the DRZ? Its brand new so I would kinda like to use it up before I change to something else.

Oh in case you might wonder about the Hodaka's we ride now day's have a few mods.
