I'm in for the meeting. Kelly
  2. Is there any special spots the SDAR members try to get at the Butter Field resort. We have a 30 class A. Do we need to have a ride partner to list on the Entry Form? This will be my first time and have not really been on any DS rides with anyone yet. Thanks Kelly

  5. http://www.vitalmx.com/news/press-release/...e-for-Free,6294 Sounds like a fun day.
  6. Thanks to Christi and her boy friend John for the invite to ride their own track. We could not of asked for a better day, the sun was out and the dirt was in the best condition. About 10 riders showed up, some of Christi's racing friends and a couple from our group. Schwinn came with his new rocket CR500 and Mimi with her mini rocket CR85. Today was the first time I have ever rode a modern motocross bike on a track, I have only rode my vintage MX bikes on a MX track. Wow and yahoo, I rode my daughter's YZ250F. She was a no show so I said what the heck, and now we may have a problem. Any way here are a few photos from my camera. Mimi on the mini rocket Schwinn on his 4 stroke Christi and a couple of Christi's fast girl friends And then how can it get any better to relax in the garage living room when your tired. Thanks again. Kelly
  7. Todd, it would be a great place to intro your wife to track riding if its new to her.
  8. Nice Job, that is so cool. I'm so sore from that day, I had a great time and again thanks. Kelly

  16. You can't beat night racing in November. Here some photos the the CALVMX/Marty Tripes 100cc class. 12 bikes entered with a good mix, still no Penton's. They must be rare. Photo's taken by Scott Burnworth. You bet I'm starting this off with me. Ok I took second behind another Hodaka Winner. Glenn Barfknechi Paul and his brother on the mighty Honda's Next generation Honda Marty Tripes David Bailey
  17. Ok three weeks in a RV with 2 teens and a 4yr old is a trip! The trip only involved a weekend of motorcycles and then some great sights of Yellowstone, Tetons, Moab, Monument Valley and the Grand Canyon. I was able to photograph, Black Bears, Wolf, Bison, Moose and a bunch of other animals. Who won the COOL BIKE you folks that bought tickets I'm sure want to know. First let me say thanks for your support for buying tickets. OK I'm sorry but know one from SDAR won, but I have a cool story about who did. There is a group of guys on the Advriders site that rode the TAT on vintage Yamahas, one of them won the bike. They call him D-MAN. They were transporting they Yamaha's to get ready for another section of the TAT and passing through Athena during the Hodaka Day's event. A couple of them rode the Yamaha's in our trail ride, it was cool to see them because I have been following there TAT adventure on the Advriders site. So they all bought a few tickets while passing by and the big guy D-MAN won the bike. Here is a link to there TAT adventure. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread....vintage+yamahas Now for Hodaka Day's I will just post a couple links if you are interested, as I mention Super Hunky from Dirt Bike Magazine fame was there and his story is posted here on Off-Road.com http://dirtbike.off-road.com/dirtbike/arti...16&pageID=1 The event was great but with a very sad ending, my good friend John Patterson who lives in Athena and put together our trail ride died of a heart attack on the last day at the scrambles event. He was only 44 years old. It was a sad ending to the event. Ken Smith of VMX magazine wrote a tribute about John on the VMX website. http://www.vmxmag.com.au/03_news_events/vm..._patterson.html Here are some photos we have posted so far on the Hodaka Day's web page of the trail ride. If you would like me to update with more Hodaka Day's photos as they come in let me know. http://hodakadays.org/ After seeing Moab I'm ready to get the KTM out. Thanks Kelly

I'm back from Hodaka Day's, who won the COOL BIKE

Mark, welcome to the group. The SDAR group here are a great bunch of folks. Thanks for all the links and a great video. Some of you may not know, Peter Starr also made another cool movie called Bad Rock. It was a movie covering the Bad Rock ISDT two day qualifier. In the future years we hope to cover many more of the same trails that were used in the race, Two years ago, Peter Starr came to the event and filmed some footage of the ride to add to the DVD of the re release of the Bad Rock film.

Second offence, Cheater must buy Steak dinner for everyone on race gate in class. 6A Legal Note All Final decisions of Legality are by Marty Tripes. Insight This is a race class that is along the lines of old days racing in the late 60’s and early 70’s. The 100cc class were the toughest competition of the race day. It made us all better riders, and it made us better mechanics out of us. Sometimes 150 to 300 riders would show up. If you won the 100cc class, you were the man, not an easy task. It’s called MT’s 100 Works Revenge for a reason, we all had Factory bikes in that era, we just didn't know it. The 100cc class was the true beginning of Moto Cross in the USA, from porting to custom frames, swinging arms, Pipes, lightweight metals and so on. When the AMA passed the non works bike rule in 1986, all minds went to rest, we all rode the same bikes, and imagination went right out the door. The fun slowly went away and our minds on making better machinery. MT’s 100 Works Revenge gold is to bring back the fun factor, get the minds working again on how to go fast with only 100cc.

Make sure that it has a viewfinder and the ability to control the flash. IMO

Rule of 3rds and leading lines. I'm no photographer but somewhere in flipping the pages at the magazine rack these are two phrases that stuck in my mind. So I always try not to have the horizon cut the picture right in half, and something that leads the eye into the photo. I wish I knew how some of you can shoot while riding?

    Leak Down

Well the last race of the season is coming next weekend. While some of you will be at the Elsinore GP, I will be running the last CALVMX/Marty Tripes 100 Works Revenge at Perris Raceway for a night race. With the #1 bike sitting still with a broke gear and a hole in the case, the #2 bike needed a little work, like find the air leak. I don't know the issues of a air leak on a four stroke, but on a two stroke it causes the engine to run lean. Coming into a corner and backing off the throttle the motor would still be running a high rpm, so I knew it had a air leak but where. Lower dry side main seal, intake area, head and cylinder or the crank cavity where the two inner cases mate. Thanks to my friend Greg at California Hodaka, who also moon lights as a plumber for the LA County Fire Department had whipped up a tester. Seal up the exhaust with a expendable plug. Really thinking it was going to be the lower main seal until we gave all the intake parts a squirt with the soapy water. After then cleaning all the carb intake surfaces, new gasket and sealer still no seal. Something with the rubber carb mount just would not seal, so it needed a new one to seal the deal. Good to go next weekend. The best thing is this is something we are usually doing of Friday night before the race. Heck now we may have a second bike ready to go..

    CALVMX Fundraiser

Little bikes are FUN! This is way Marty Tripes started the 100cc Revenge. Just look at the rules here and you will see how the fun is laid out. http://martytripesvintage.com/Rules.html Check out some of the results and see a good turn out. http://martytripesvintage.com/Results.html A few photos http://martytripesvintage.com/Photos.html I think the next and last race coming up will be the largest and may have a few old pros running it. If anyone wants to check out a great vintage venue, come to Perris Raceway Saturday for the night race. www.calvmx.net

I'm still trying to work on the cropping. I started taking a photoshop class at night, after two class the teacher had a heart attack and the class ended. On my point and shoot I did make sure I could have control of the flash over Auto. I need to learn this stuff.
