Noobish ride Sunday, December 22nd 2013
socalhodaka replied to paulmbowers's topic in 1 to 3 Day Ride Write-Ups, Stories and Photos
I was along for this ride, I'm an experienced rider. I joined this ride as to be my first time with my KLR on any kind of dirt, knowing just what I read on the description that this would be a perfect time to try it out. I like others mingled at the staging area and greeted old friends as well as introduced to new ones. The riders meeting laid out just what to expect on who was leading and sweeping, pace of the ride, terrain and an assessment of rider ability during the first mile or two. So the first mile or so was just that, flat road, then mild uphill with some turns and staging area at the top for review. All the time PB,BS and TH were attentive to all. Paul found some different obstacles to introduce to the riders, all optional and if was part of the trail had a bypass if needed. I was impressed with all the effort these guys put into introducing noobs to dual sport riding, taking it on themselves to make it as safe as could be. I will join you guys again for sure. Kelly -

IBA SaddleSore 1000 on a Dual Sport
socalhodaka replied to Dan Diego's topic in Informal Local Rides & Who's Going Riding!
When I did my SS1000, I went from PQ to the Golden Gate Bridge. I went right up the 5, came down the 101 to Paso Robles, across the 46 back to the 5, to the 10, the 15 home. I stopped 7 times for fuel not counting my start and ending fill up. Twice stopped for 1/2 each to eat, start time was 2:46am and end time was 9:07 pm. Total miles was 1027 This was on my 03 Ultra Classic. I would like to try on the KLR and have though about Border to Border in 36 hrs. I also mapped out a route from here to Solvang, up across the 120 to the 395 then a slight kink towards Indo then home. Total miles 1001.8. I would prefer after the time change back to long and warmer days. -
Can you non-op it when you get the title in your name to hold on to the CA plate and register it in AZ?

Ok, Frank is not a member of the SDAR but a great motorcycle supporter. Frank is president of CALVMX is opening up the Red Feather Offroad Market & Cafe, 1182 North Imperial Highway Ocotillo, California 92259. A few of us here know or have done business with Frank, I think he could be a good support to the SDAR group. Also Im sure with the Desert Dash. Check out the Facebook page and photos. Redfeather

Picked up a CCR Sport Bed Buddy
socalhodaka replied to Wintyfresh's topic in Equipment & Technical Forum
This one is a High Roller and cost is right around $100High Roller it has these cool lock nuts on the back with a long finger welded to it. You can bend the finger so you can hold the nut to get it started on the bolt, then when started the finger bends under the lip of the bed and keeps the nut from turning when you tighten. I like mine and have had it on for about 4 years now. -

Thanks Bill, I'll give them a try instead of sending the pipes off to pacific crest which does sound like a great place. Take a before and after photo, let use know how it goes. It would be great to have a local place.

Craig, do you have issues here? When I seen you in person at the meetings and other places I thought to myself, this guy seems alright. But now I hope I never really see you again, you think your kinda full of your self. Well you you full of you know what IMO. I know folks in the past have kinda of stood up for you and smooth things over for you but your colors come true. Don't want to go on because this is a good group with a bunch of good folks I have met and like. Yes I know I don't have to get lured into your crap post and I will try not to, but it is kinda hard not to watch someone make a fool of them self. So I take responsibility for that and that it worked me up, so my bad.
