    Phone based gps help!

If Basecamp scares you there are several other simple options if you just want to load tracks\waypoints. Heck you can just copy GPX files right to the Montana's SD card in Windows Explorer.

That ones on Google. They changed GE so that third party apps can't access it. However it's very easy to export tracks in Basecamp in KML format and then open them in GE and vice versa. I have my home desktop pc set up with two screens - one with Basecamp and the other with GE and routinely move files back and forth between them. Basecamp is a little intimidating at first for some but once mastered it's has some very powerful features. As for using cell phones I've been down that route and my preference is still the Montana and the 276Cx. Most cell phones use either a mini\micro usb or a lightning connector. Neither is very robust off road.

Received the Earls filter today. It's 1/2" longer and slightly slimmer than the stock Mahle. Installed it in my 3 gal Acerbis tank and it went right into the tank with no difficulty. Hoses and standard 10.9 Oetiker clamps went on snug and sealed well. Subsequent pressure check showed pump holding pressure >40 psi for 5+ minutes after shutting off which is comparable to the results I routinely get with the stock Mahle filter so it would seem there are no significant leaks at the clamps. Time for a test ride:)
  4. I think I drove by you guys in the motorhome Thursday on the way to the desert. If I recall correctly 4 bikes pulled over on the south side of 78 near the entrance to Grapevine. I was busy watching the road and didn't get a good look but suspected it might be the clan. What a great weekend in the desert. It was virtually empty. Guess everyone stayed home for the Superbowl.

I'll let you know once I have the $14 one in hand next week. There is a question if it will seal properly to the hoses in the tank. According to Earl's it's designed to work with their Vapor Guard hose. Also the filter media in the Golan has a much larger surface area so possibly more capacity?

Meanwhile back on the subject of intank filters I found this one that looks promising. Golan Mini Filter https://golanproducts.com/product/mini-fuel-filter/ 10 micron. Large SS cleanable element. Appears to similar in length to the Mahle though perhaps just a bit larger in diameter. Golan known for high quality mil spec and aerospace filters. And made in the USA. $57 on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Golan-Inc-Peak-Filter-60-312C/dp/B00CAYC886/ref=pd_sbs_263_t_0/140-8673100-4078228?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00CAYC886&pd_rd_r=1932e71f-6aa3-4a73-afae-336b7aa605eb&pd_rd_w=rmIaS&pd_rd_wg=AmUqs&pf_rd_p=5cfcfe89-300f-47d2-b1ad-a4e27203a02a&pf_rd_r=BHF8GMNX29YDK3NHNXJ7&psc=1&refRID=BHF8GMNX29YDK3NHNXJ7

Well Amazon is pretty quick. That's where I got mine. Locally: San Diego Seal, Inc.7635 Ronson Road.San Diego, CA 92111 I used them when I was still working but not in quite awhile. Don't know what their policy is for minimum purchase\retail? Orings: 2-011 - oring on the insert (fuel ijector) side of the quick connect 2-015 - seals head of banjo bolt to 90 degree fitting] 13mm ID x 2.5mm - Wall [seals 90 degree fitting to tank surface][Works with stock straight nipple as well] 6mm ID x 2mm - Wall [seals end of banjo bolt to outlet of fuel pump] 21mm x 3mm - Fuel pump retaining nut

Yep. That's this part: https://www.freshwatersystems.com/products/plcd17005vb-valved-in-line-hose-barb-black-coupling-body-5-16-id-barb-viton-o-ring Have one sitting in my toolbox. When I built up my second tank setup I used one from freshwater. It's identical to the KTM part except is doesn't cost $44!

In stock configuration KTM uses the insert (the injector side) without a valve. Only the coupler (tank side) has a valve. Really don't need one on the insert as there's not a whole lot of fuel downstream of there.

Or if you want the insert non-valved just get this one and swap the oring for a viton one. https://www.freshwatersystems.com/products/lc22005-in-line-hose-barb-coupling-insert-5-16-id-barb

Well I don't know. The Mahle is 40 micron so 10 is kinda overkill. Mr KTM&Husky says if you use his filter you don't need to run the 10 micron that's downstream in the quick disconnect. Ummm...no thanks. Personally I would rather have a 30 micron in the Earls. They do sell a 30 micron element. All the Mahle filter does is keep large stuff out of the pressure regulator. The downstream 10 micron protects the injector. I have the Zipty 10 micron at the disconnect.

There is an oring in the coupler (tank side) fitting for the shutoff valve that's inside of it. It is not field replaceable so I highly recommend ordering it with the viton oring. I think the metal version Paul showed may be field serviceable. The black fitting I showed IS the stock female (coupler) fitting. It's made of black acetal and has a viton oring inside.

Oh and to derail this thread even further let's talk fuel filters (in tank). So the stock filter in the tank is a Mahle KL97. I have had two buddies have this filter fail on them. The most recent was on a 2017 350EXC just a few weeks ago. The filters are splitting at the weld seam. The last one was a small leak that dropped the fuel pressure down into the mid 30's. Bike would run but had all kinds of weird behavior. So options? Well Bestdualsportbikes guy (Formerly ktmandhusky) sells a replacement for $90. It's anodized aluminum with a replaceable ($29) 10 micron cellulose element. https://bestdualsportbikes.com/all-products/in-tank-billet-fuel-filter-mahle-kl97-replacement Frankly it's seems overpriced and overkill to me. That and BDS has a less than stellar history. People either love him or hate him:) So to another alternative that Mr Bowers pointed me to: Earls Supply https://www.holley.com/products/plumbing_an_fittings_and_hose/vapor_guard/vapor_guard_fuel_filters/parts/731155ERL Element is cleanable sintered bronze type. Replacement element is $7. I've got one of these on order and will update when I get it in hand but on paper looks like a viable option.

You really should use a viton oring. N-buna is not that resistant to gasoline & methanol. Fuel will make it swell making connecting\disconnecting more difficult with an increased chance of tearing the oring. https://www.amazon.com/2-011-V7-Viton-Ring-Pack/dp/B01D0BAYO2/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=2-011+viton&qid=1580325115&sr=8-1 Here's a place that will save a little $$ over Motion Pro for the fittings: https://www.freshwatersystems.com/products/plcd22005v-valved-in-line-hose-barb-coupling-insert-5-16-id-barb-viton-o-ring https://www.freshwatersystems.com/products/plc22004-in-line-hose-barb-coupling-insert-1-4-id-barb This is the exact fitting that KTM uses (and charges $50 for): https://www.freshwatersystems.com/products/plcd17005vb-valved-in-line-hose-barb-black-coupling-body-5-16-id-barb-viton-o-ring

Interesting. Out of 10 water cooled bikes I’ve owned haven’t seen that but it’s certainly something to look out for.
  24. Just a heads up. Costco sent out a flyer yesterday and it has the Inreach SE+ on sale for $60 off their regular price of $289 so $229. Great deal. Sale starts on 12/27. No affiliation.

In my experience if they're well cared for (i.e - regular coolant replacement, etc) they last a very long time but I'm pretty anal about inspecting things during routine maintenance so would never reuse a hose that looks suspect. Actually never seen one fail other than impact related.
