    Headset testing

LOL. I haven't ridden with Paul for a few years but that aspect sticks vividly in my mind.

    Headset testing

THanks the ones I have currently are not good enough. I was thinking about buying the same mic used on the ones sold by Rugged radios but this looks like it may be even better. Have you tried using this while on a motorcycle? Extensively. I have an Avcomm (same/similar to Rugged Radios) as well. Several riders in our group use the Digikey mic and honestly it's pretty close to the Avcomm and way better than the average el cheapo nc mic. Very clear audio at speed on the bike.

    VX 170 Radio Geeks

Not to hijack this thread but have you tested this setup? I've been working on something similar but like your approach better. Towing with oversize bars is a problem. I recently towed a guy about 20 miles footpeg to footpeg but that was on fireroad. I think on singletrack it would have been pretty dicey.

Sorry, can't make it- date night, and the French restaurant takes a narrow view of ham radio chatter. The French are so fussy, you know. But. Please, please reconsider using a non-noise canceling mic. YOU may not notice a difference, but those riding with you certainly will. You will be difficult to understand WHILE BEING VERY LOUD AND OBNOXIOUS at the same time. Please? Does Paul still sing on the radio? THAT's loud and obnoxious! If you are looking for a really good noise cancelling mic that really works this is the one I use: http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=PNR-3539-ND Performance is just about on par with the Avcomm headset.
  5. Sorry guys but I'm out. One of my kids gave me a nifty cold!
  6. You won't require plates in Corral, but once we get out of there, we need to be on Buckman Springs to get to Pine Creek (That's if we still want to head there). I don't have a radio and more than likely, i'm going to be the slowest guy so someone faster is more than welcome to lead. This is what i was thinking: 1. Leave the the Pine Valley Exit parking lot by 7:00am 2. Pine Valley Rd to 4 corners (via the small water crossing... i don't remember the trail name) 3. Trail 1 down 4. Trail 5 up (or Morena Stokes if you want to skip trail 5) 5. Spur Meadow to the Watch Tower 6. Drop down the asphalt rd all the way to Buckman Springs Rd. 7. Ride through Pine valley town toward Pine Creek 8. Take Pine Creek towards S1 9. Left on S1 10. Left on Skyline Dr (which should take us down to Pine Creek) 11. End at Pine Valley Exit parking lot. I don't know the exact names of the rd/trails, but i went on DaJudge ride and this route was an absolute blast. Okay. That makes a bit more sense. I was thinking Bear Valley over to Corral, play around and then back via Bear Valley. You're way is easier. No worries on the radio. If anyone else had one I'd bring it. Trail 4 is a lot of fun and not overly difficult.
  7. All are welcome. I have a plated xr650L. It might be a good idea to bring your plated ride if you want to do the 2nd half of the ride which will require some asphalt time to get to the trail. Asphalt at Corral??? Care to share what you have in mind? In any case I'll bring the KTM if there's a chance I'll need the plate. Anybody using radios?
  8. I'm sort of a lurker on here. Mind if I join you? Is this plated or a sticker ride? I have both (WR450 and KTM 450EXC).

    SDsportcycles Sale

On sale at Costco Morena - $99. Standard definition but still a pretty good deal.
  10. my sons bike is not plated, nor is the cops, mine is. I have been told that it is not a problem with the rangers if you take the wash just before you get to split mt rd. I am sure that with all the rain next weeks ride will be a blast, nothing like some good old mud. Are you talikng about the rr through Carrizo Gorge or the one between PC and Spit Mountain. The later is pretty boring (straight road). If you're going to follow the tracks up into Carrizo you will be in the state park (not the ohv park). You're not likely to see a ranger in that area but if you do he will not be a happy camper.
  11. Let me guess? Drive side rear wheel bearing? Common failure on the EXC's. It happened to a guy with a 530 last year when I rode Mex2Can. Jerry (promoter) said it's happened several times in years past. Don't know why but obviously something to keep a watch on.
  12. I'll jump in here. Most of you don't know me (well Fakename does!) but I ride in the park on the bike quite regularly and have had a number of friendly encounters with rangers in AB. However I think the ranger that FN ran in to may be the same one I ran into in Fish Creek a few weeks ago in my 4wd. He's a young guy I've never seen before but he stopped me while I was driving up Fish Creek and even though I had done nothing wrong he gave me a big spiel about driving off the trail. He was not accusing me of doing it and I had not but he still proceeded to give me his diatribe like I was a two year old. I was very friendly to the guy but drove away thinking what a jerk he was. Glad I didn't meet him on the bike. This guy is a piece of work!
