    Lots of new members recently

Welcome @Birdi. My wife @Angela is a member and I imagine would like to meet other women that ride. What bike(s) do you ride?

Family / Newb Desert Weekend @ Ocotillo Wells

    until

My family will be traveling, otherwise I'd be there! Keep posting these great events!
  3. Dang, sorry we missed you. I was there with my family in our RV, spot 139. tow rows down from us was @shutterrev, @moto_rph, and a lifelong friend of Nick's who flew in for the event. There were 2-3 other people staying with them, sorry if I am forgetting handles from the forum. Also had 2-3 people from the forum come up and say hello to me during the event. Considering it was my first GEICO Adv Ride event and thus I had no measuring stick, I think it was a great event. I had fun riding with my wife ( @Angela is now an official adventure biker! ) and my friends.
  4. My family will be traveling during this trip so we're out. Damn shame too, sounds great. Keep up the great work on making events @tntmo
  5. Can't wait to hang out! I owe you a drink for the margarita(s).
  6. Late to the thread, haven't read up to this point, so might as well seagull (fly in, ---- everywhere, and leave): Anyone want to do a photography / 360 videography / drone videography oriented ride? This is a bit niche as there will be a lot of slow, repetitive riding or even posing next too one's bike. It would be epic to create some new wallpapers, profile shots, or just play around with camera gear. I have a good SLR, 2x older Hero's, an Insta360, a Skydio 2+, a Mavic Mini, and tons of mounts for body, arm, bike, helmet, etc.
  7. We'll be in spot 139. Large black/coffee-colored RV. Angela will be on her newly-kitted-up Royal Enfield and I'll have the Africa Twin with me. She's attending an adventure bike training class while we are there so I'll have some time to myself where I'll probably chase the Farkle Ponies around.
  8. For those that are geared up but unwilling to test their mettle in the rain, I agree with the points above that rain means opportunity as well as coming just for the evening is still a win. If those options are out of reach for you, allow me to make one final suggestion: camp in your yard. Seriously. The distance you drive is irrelevant when it comes to learning to setup a tent, testing your air pad, cooking over a camp stove, and enjoying the outdoors. You’ll learn what you forgot (dammit, where do I sit?) and what you don’t need (this multi tool does 57 things…. all poorly). You can practice setup/takedown of your tent, and work towards the gold metal of moto-camping - suspending a hammock between your bike and a tree. Bonus points for anyone that posts a pic showing that your roughing it… 15 feet from indoor plumbing, a kitchen, and the TV.

That would be a great way to get to know the group @PaulyPickles. Anything that we can do to help make that trip happen for you? If you are low on gear, I am sure we can sake enough stuff from our garages to accomidate.

Dang, I totally missed that it was a Royal Enfield. @Angela, check it out!
  12. Thanks for the suggestion, but this isn’t what we want either. @dirt dame, @ADV Bum, and I are all site admins and we are all stepping in to maintain our community standards and enforcing policy. The user that we are all three responding to isn’t welcome to act like that here or in any other thread.
  13. Big bike with big boxes. With the wife and kids I won’t be solo camping anytime soon. I’m coming for the camaraderie and campfire.

  15. I'm bringing a french press so we can have decent coffee Sunday morning. If you don't already have one, get an LED headlamp. Digging around in various packs and navigating tent flaps/zipper/guylines/camp restrooms/etc. in the dark is much easier when both hands are free. Also, with no cell service, you're more likely to not have your cell phone on you. I'll have an extra or two to lend out.
  16. I have been away for a while due to kids/work/life and I am itching to get on two wheels again. I'll bring my drone so we can get some group shots. I'll load up the hard cases with goodies if anyone is short on supplies. I'll also bring something fun to play around the campfire in the event the group is into casual/group games. Also, I have some good conversation starter-style games that I'll toss in the pack. No promises, but my VHF/UHF radio might be able to hit a repeater from camp. If I can do that, I can likely get the score of the game everyone was talking about. Looking forward to it!
  17. Don't be rude to other members. Don't post politics. First and last warning.
  18. I am still behind on reading the forum and also behind in general from having sick kids in two states (Washington and California). I plan to attend the noob overnight and won't need to borrow any gear. I've camped a fair bit as a youth and adult, including cooking and entertainment. The new aspects to me will be doing it on a bike (I believe this will be an easy adaptation for me) and in this area/climate (rattlesnakes? scorpions? conservatives? *shudder*). Looking forward to hanging out with everyone again.

    Your Next Big Ride

I am a noob when it comes to many things related to adventure bikes. BDR - backcountry discovery routes, thank Google! - sound excellent. Can anyone recommend a good jumping in point for learning more?
  22. If you have a single point of failure, you have failed. I like the iPhone's new satellite connectivity capability, but I wouldn't bet my life on it. I'll start shopping around for a good deal on a purpose-built GPS tracker.
  23. Hey @DSM8, the guy you gave the tank bag and bark busters to is @PerigrinoRobbino, aka Max. I've pinged him about the gear and reminded him that you asked for a donation to the site. I know he's good for it, likely just forgot. As for @J5ive, he's on the Tenere 700 in photo #6 here.

I assume everyone is talking about tomorrow, 9/18. I am busy Fri/Sat/Sun with dad duty all day so that @Angela can take motorcycle classes to get her full license. Wish I could go, but I have to pass this weekend.
