    New Year's Weekend

OK, my 640 is running, started right up with a new battery after sitting for months. Had to do a few maintenance things, now she's ready to go. So, here's the plan. I'm camping (I think Numbskull will also be with me) at Agua Caliente County Park on Hwy. S2 in the desert north of Ocotillo exit off I-8. Will leave the campsite Saturday morning about 8:00am the latest, ride some canyons and dirt down to Ocotillo. Then dirt to Superstition to find Rob (Ride Orange) and his crew. Anyone who wants to meet to ride with me in the morning, can either meet at Agua Caliente group campsite at 8:00am the lastest, on S-2, or meet at the gas station/store on north side of I-8 in Ocotillo at about 9:00-9:30am. We need an hour to explore trails to get to Rob's at Superstition. Hope to see some of you. My cell is 619-818-8746. Can't guarantee reception where I'm camping, but should have reception at Ocotillo and Superstition.

    Jan 14th

I'll see what I can come up with for a night ride....Wildcat Canyon dirt trails then Ramona dirt to Mesa Grande. You're looking at about a 3 hour ride at minimum. I also would like to meet you and get together around a fire also. Depends on my work schedule during the week. We'll keep in touch more.

  4. San Diego Off-Road Coalition Update · HIGHWAY 78 CLOSURE RESCINDED! State Route 78 through Scissors Crossing to Imperial County, which was to be completely closed, both directions, full time 24/7, commencing January 3 for about two months, will remain open to motorists without restrictions on weekends (Fridays at 4 p.m. through Mondays at 6 a.m.) as work continues on safety upgrades to the San Felipe Creek Bridge. On weekdays from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. one-way traffic control will allow motorists to pass through the construction zone, although delays of up to a half hour should be expected. Much of the credit for this compromise goes to Sherri Kukla, editor of the San Diego Off Road Magazine, for spreading the word of the closure through her extensive e-mail list. And, of course, to the many off-roaders who wrote or called CalTrans. For the current official word check HERE. · The January/February issue of The Endangered Off-Roader is now available on the SDORC Web site (www.sdorc.org)

    New Year's Day

Tree, sounds good to me. Yeah, I know we're going to have to do some sandwashes. That's OK by me and the experienced guys on the ride. So, since we're going there and back on Saturday, we should be able to pick out a couple of good routes. Sunday, I may ride the Squeeze and Dropoff to OW, then come back the Diablo Dropoff and Arroyo Seco Del Diablo back to Agua Caliente, if anyone's interested. Thanks,
  6. Troy, I don't think it would be fair to send you a pic from last years design, since she may come up with another design this year. She used a photo and put a lot of effort into a hand sketched design from the photo. Basically, the design should show a dualsport bike and rider, in the desert with cactus and sunset, mountains, and whatever else you may come up with. The basic lettering for the shirt can easily be changed. If you come up with a desert scene, than I can tell you what we want the shirt to say. Thanks,

    New Year's Day

Hey Tree, I was hoping to explore the BEST possible route to get to OW from Superstition for the Desert Dash dualsport ride, since I would like to prerun some routes to use on the ride. The easiest and quickest is not necessarily the best and most fun. I would like to stay away from the pole line road for the Desert Dash since it pretty much sucks. Unless there are no better routes. I asking for your input here. The way we went last year was pretty good, but we used parts of the pole line, and a long wash from the paved road at northeast end of Superstition. I'm hoping to find something different and better. Please let me know what you think.
  8. Thread needs a bump...make sure you guys get some photos of "Getoffs" or getting stuck, next time your out....that's if you do fall over High Sierra Adventure Ride 2005..... issues with a snowdrift

  10. Hello All, it's time to update the Club Roster for our AMA Charter. If you don't know, SDAR is a club listed with the AMA and we need to renew the club charter every year. IF you want to be listed as a member of SDAR on the Roster, please send me a PM. I'll need the following information: Name, address, phone number, AMA #. Some of this info will not go on the roster (like address and phone), but I would like to have the info for my personal record, if that's OK with you. Again, please send me a PM. Thanks for being a part of SDAR and making it what it is now !!

    Thread Hijacking

Please go to the Website Information and/or Problems Section of the forums to read a note about Thread Hijacking. We've all got to start following some simple rules about posting, otherwise some topic discussions get lost. Thanks,

    Apparently, I’ve taken the plunge!

Alpinestars are some of the best, in my opinion. Sidi's are good too. The stiffer the boot, the more protection. I have ridden on long trips with my Alpinestar Tech 6's. I bought a pair of Sidi Discovery for really long Adventure Rides.

    New Year's Day

As soon as I know my details for the weekend, I will post them here. I want to meet Ride Orange Saturday at Superstition to ride to Ocotillo Wells. I will prerun some trails on the way out to Superstition in the morning. Rob, what time were you guys thinking of actually getting on the bikes to ride to OW ?? Hopefully not too early, so I have time to get down there from Agua Caliente Saturday Morning. Otherwise we'll head out to OW and try to meet you there. Anyone else know of good options to go from Superstition to OW ? I know of one sand wash (lots of sand), and the main DR along the railroad tracks. I want to check out other options. Thanks,

Buying a GPS, any opinions out there?

I have a Garmin 60CSX I just bought. I need to sell my Magellan Platinum Series GPS, I'll sell it cheap, it's hardly been used. Here is a company you all should support if you're buying GPS stuff. The guy who owns it is a fellow Adventure Rider (not from San Diego). His Company is Off-Route.com - the factory authorized experts in geocaching, outdoor and automotive satellite navigation.
  15. See Post Below HERE I plan on going out Friday for the weekend. See link above to the New Year's Day post also.

    New Year's Day

I will be camping with the Airheads BMW Club at their annual New Year's Eve campout at Agua Caliente on Highway S-2. I will be meeting Ride Orange, who will be camping in his toy hauler at Plaster City. We plan on prerunning some trails and finding some new trails to get to Ocotillo Wells from there. Will keep all posted about possible meeting times and places. I plan on heading out to go camping on Friday the 29th. Merry Christmas
  17. Hey, I was just going to post about a Christmas Day Ride. My plans to go to my bro's house fell through since he is really sick. Guess I gotta go for breakfast at Denny's, since most everything else will be closed. So, I'm probably going for a ride. John, is the road to Corral Canyon open to where we can get to the lower part of Kiernan Cycle Trail that heads up the hill to Pine Valley ?? And which Bear Valley are you talking about. The dirt road from Buckman Springs, or the Cul De Sac off of I-8. I'll check here in the morning and we can talk on the phone. Merry Christmas

Steve, congrats on the new Dakar. You ready to race now ? Kaw'ee, love the pic of McQueen, too bad not a clearer version.
  20. I just want to thank all of you who have been contributing time to help out, and for representing SDAR. Good on you !! I know, some t-shirts and bike stickers saying SDAR would be nice so people know who we all are...........we'll be working on that soon. Have been in touch with UncleCameron for a logo design for stickers and shirts.
  21. Let's see if I can get the 640 running by Friday night. Say a prayer for me.........in a world of human wreckage.
  22. Simon, ditto on a place to stay if you come through. Like Carguy said, we'd love to meet you both in person, and hear some of your stories. We would be happy to arrange a get-together when you come through San Diego. Let us know ahead of time. Also, it's great to hear from a World Traveller, visiting our site !! Send me a PM (personal message) and I'll give you my contact info. Also, what size t-shirts you both wear ? Consider yourselves honorary San Diego Adventure Riders.
  23. Hey All, wanted to make a new place for forum/site issues, questions, problems, news, etc. Thanks,
  24. Pyro, I can move it for you, I'll move it to open discussion.....this can only be done by a moderator. Thanks for the compliments !!
