  2. From another excellent forum and source of info.....Race Dezert Forums The Tennessee Center for Policy Research, an independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan research organization committed to achieving a freer, more prosperous Tennessee through free market policy solutions, issued a press release late Monday: Last night, Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy. Gore’s mansion, [20-room, eight-bathroom] located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES). In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home. The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average. Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359. Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006. Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year. “As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk to walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use,” said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson. In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006. I plan on being down at the SDBMW Open House on the 31st to help promote SDAR and also help Bosman help promote the PKD Fundraising event. If anyone would like to come down for a couple of hours and man the table, helping Bos and I, please let me know. Would be nice if a few people wanted to help, so not one of us has to man the table for more than a couple of hours at a time. Thanks,

  14. CORVA is having a convention / family fun day in Calfornia City, since their Jamboree was cancelled. HERE is the link to the flyer....If anyone from SDAR wants to go, post a reply and maybe we'll get a small group to go. CORVA Convention By Terry Work, V.P. Sales & Marketing For the year 2007, the CORVA Board of Directors has decided to do something different for our convention. We are going to do something we have never done for a convention before -- that is the 2007 CORVA Convention will be held in California City, and we will be camping! What is camping with off-roaders without our toys? That's right, we want everyone to join us around the CORVA off-road campfire for a convention like no other! The Convention will be starting Friday, March 30, 2007 and will continue until Sunday, April 1, 2007. The actual agenda is still being decided by our Convention Committee, but planned activities include: A Hospitality Campfire and time to visit with old off-roading buddies and meet new ones; trail rides lead by our own President and Off-Road Hall of Fame Inductee Ed Waldheim; family off-road games and events for all ages and skill levels, similar to our Southern Jamboree, with lots of trophies. We will also have a Barrel Race hosted by the American Buggy Association and the Incline Ramp run by Point Mugu 4x4 Club. (More club events will be added as we progress though our planning stages.) We will also have safety seminars presented by N2Dirt for the kids and the young at heart. Additionally, we will be having a guest speaker or two (speakers are still to be confirmed, but we are trying for one of the most known figures in offroading). Additional activities will include a huge barbecue, music, possible dance, grown up events and many kids events. As usual, we will have to take care of CORVA business while we are there. This will include the CORVA Annual Meeting to nominate and elect new officers, provide reports of CORVA's work from 2006, and provide insight into our work in 2007. This will include reports of our legal efforts. We will have our announcement of the CORVA Awards, including "Off-Roader of the Year", "Club of the North", "Club of the South", and various awards for charity, conservation, etc. Award guidelines will be printed in future newsletters, so watch for the details and send in your nominations for your club, friends, or family members that are most deserving of these recognition awards. Sunday we will have a CORVA "Pancake Breakfast" that our Chef Ed and other members of CORVA will be cooking for you. Sunday activities are still undecided, but may include an open day for riding and touring of the popular area, including Cal City, Randsburg, Jawbone, Dove Springs, Rand Mountains, El Paso Mountains, and Red Rock Canyon State Park. And even though we will be in the desert, for those of you that want to bring your toys but do not have a RV, there will be a new hotel that is scheduled to be completed near our camping area. So mark your calendars for the weekend of March 30-April 1, 2007 for a weekend of fun and games with CORVA in Cal City! Watch upcoming issues of "Off Roaders in Action" for more information. * Clubs: we are looking for clubs (or volunteers) that would like to assist with the convention. Your club can assist by volunteering as a game/event host or the Host Club for the entire weekend. It's up to you. Please contact Terry Work at 1-800-42-CORVA ext. 513 and leave a message or send an email to terry@corva.org. Remember we will be having an area for RV's just for CORVA so please arrive early. Don't miss this awesome event that your entire family will enjoy! See you there! [since the CORVA Southern Jamboree was cancelled due to fire, we are desperately in need of funds to continue our land use battles. If your family or club can attend the CORVA Convention and host a game or event, CORVA would greatly appreciate your help. Think of something fun and original, wacky, and exciting! (Or, call us for ideas!) Here's your chance to help CORVA and enjoy time with friends and family! Call or email Terry if you are willing to help. This is a major fundraiser for CORVA. Thanks! - Erin Dyer, Editor] For more information contact Terry Work @ terry@corva.org (800) 42-CORVA (ext. 513)

  18. Yes, next time I post something like this, I'll check the validity of it first. Most of the other stuff I know is from reliable sources. I still can't stand Gore !!
  19. From Race Dezert......... A victory, for now......without contributing to the fight, we would've lost this battle. NOTE: money needed to support these groups who pay for the Attorney who battled this policy !! We have been fighting closures with lawsuits, using the same tactics the enviros use to fight back at them !! Another Victory for OHV Use – Sacramento Court Says “Desert Riparian Policy” May Not Be Implemented Until Rule Making is Completed SACRAMENTO – On Friday, February 2, 2007, the OHV community won another victory over improper efforts to curb off-road recreation in California. During an hour-long court hearing, a judge in Sacramento stated that the California Off-Highway Motorized Vehicle Recreation Commission (the “Commission”) may not implement its “Desert Riparian Policy” unless and until it develops formal rules defining the policy’s terms and scope. As currently drafted, the Policy would prohibit use of OHMVR grant funds for projects that allow OHV use in desert riparian areas. EcoLogic Partners, Inc., along with five OHV groups – the the California Off-Road Vehicle Association, San Diego Off-Road Coalition, the American Sand Association, the Off-Road Business Association, and American Motorcyclists Association District 37 – sued the Commission last year over the policy, claiming that it conflicted with the text of the OHMVR Act itself. At the February 2 hearing, the Court heard arguments from the Commission, the OHMVR Division, and EcoLogic, et al. And while the judge denied EcoLogic’s request to dissolve the Desert Riparian Policy outright, he ruled that the current language of the policy is so vague that it could lead to interpretations inconsistent with the existing law. He also expressed concern that the Commission might adopt future policies, with broad language similar to that in the Desert Riparian Policy, which are designed to cut off funding for OHV projects in other areas of the state. When viewed cumulatively, such policies could effectively gut the OHVMR grant program. For these reasons, the Court instructed the Commission and the Division to develop workable definitions and rules that properly circumscribe the scope of the Desert Riparian Policy. This, said the Court, must be accomplished prior to implementation of the policy. Moreover, it must be done through an open public process. Then the rules must be reviewed and approved by an Administrative Law Panel. Although the judge stopped short of telling the Commission what the rules should contain, he explained that the OHMVR Act was adopted to promote responsible OHV recreation, and any policy that retreats from that purpose, or operates in conflict with it, will be subject to legal challenge. He invited EcoLogic and the other OHV groups to participate in the rulemaking process, and to come back to court if the rules adopted by the Commission still create conflict with the text of the Act. Counsel for EcoLogic, et al, David Hubbard, said he was very pleased with the Court’s ruling. “This could not have worked out better. We claimed from the beginning that the Desert Riparian Policy was jammed down our throats without public input, without adequate definitions, without evidence as to need, and without limits on its scope. The court has now leveled the playing field on these questions and forced the Commission to justify the policy in an open public debate. And if the rules adopted by the Commission would substantially damage funding for OHV projects in the desert, we will be back in front of the judge.” When asked how long the rule making process would take, counsel for the OHMVR Division estimated 18 months to 2 years. During that time, the Desert Riparian Policy will remain dormant and unenforceable. For more information regarding this press release, contact David Hubbard at dph@ecobalance.biz
  20. More from Race Dezert Forums........Keep Informed, Get Involved !! VORRA Vs. B.L.M....link here VORRA has been putting on Off Road Races for over 30 years in Northern California and Nevada. VORRA and BLM in all those years have always been able to work together and achieve what was applicable for both parties. We have gone out at the end of every race and restored the prescribed areas that BLM has designated. In short, we have always done what asked of us by BLM. …. Until now. It seems the power that may be, BLM in Washington D.C. and our legislators have decided, because BLM’s budget was cut back that they would implement what was called “Cost Recovery”. In other words, charge the people that want to use the desert, (out public lands, paid for by us) to pay for the cost of archeological studies, be it Hydro Studies, Wild Life Studies, etc. The list goes on and on. In the past, BLM would perform these studies, or were supposed to, for special events. These studies should have been done already with OUR tax dollars. Now they wish to collect and spend OUR tax dollars, plus, use this “Cost Recovery.” VORRA’s estimated cost for this is $20,000.00 plus. Through several meetings in the last few weeks, VORRA and BLM have tried to work this out, and failed, due to BLM’s steadfast need for the $20,000.00 plus. I have decided that VORRA will take the position, we are not going to be extorted for the $20,000.00 plus dollars. VORRA will put on desert races this year without BLM’s required permits. The end result will be citations issued to VORRA, and the start of a legal battle to preserve our rights to use our public lands for us and our children for generations to come. For more details on VORRA’s “Cost Recovery” call Dennis Kordonowy at 775-224-1327 or BLM’s Carson City location at 885-6000 and ask for Bryant Smith (Associate Field Manager) or 885-6141, Arthur Callen (Recreation Planner) or 885-6173 Terry Knight (Recreation Program Lead) God bless BLM’s almighty preserved tin can in Hawthorne, Nevada, discovered by BLM’s (hired or employed) archeologist. Thank You, Dennis Kordonowy VORRA Ed(itors) note: Dennis is a long time off road racer and is the CEO of VORRA.” From Dusty Times, March 2007, Page 39

And another Welcome Ron.....hope to meet and ride with you soon !!
  22. May is a long way away (to me), so we'll see....but I could use a good ride with some Difficult single track trails !! R-O, Kawee has not answered e-mails, and Carguy is his good friend and has not been able to get a hold of him either
  23. Ahhh....well, hopefully we'll be able to schedule weeks in advance so people can commit to a date. Will that work for everyone ??
  24. Thanks for the words and support, Martin. This event will be new to me also....I've written letters, I donate money often to the groups, I have attended some National Forest meetings and other meetings, and go to some SDORC local meetings, but going to these political functions is all new to me. The best thing to do is find someone who is familiar with what goes on and hang with them, like I will be doing with either the District 37 or the SDORC people at this one. Just showing support in numbers is all that really matters, and when meeting a representative, you can just say you're all for preserving access to our lands and common sense approach to these issues, not bowing down to the environmentalist groups and proposals. For this event, there is a meeting on Sunday from 4-6pm that will explain what to do and how when meeting an official at the State Capitol. Arnie's office will be open, hopefully he will be there so we can shake his hand. I will check to see if our local representatives from our district will be at the capitol. They like to know when people are coming to see them, after all....we elected them and they represent US !!
