  1. When you post on the forum, you go to the little image above that shows a "green tree" and when you move your mouse onto it, it says "insert image". Then a window will appear where you paste the URL of your image....preview your post to see if the image is there, then go ahead and post it. You must paste the URL of the image, from your other photo hosting site. Some do not allow you to link to your photo, or there may be a trick to it, depending on the site. Webshots is one of the best photo hosting sites, and it's only about $30 a year for a premium membership.

  6. As Uncle Cam said, the date is February 23-24th, 2008. The flyer will be available on the SDAR link later this month. It is also coming out in the D37 AMA Dualsport newsletter later this month. I appreciate all your offers for help, and will be taking you up on your offers Same starting place....Butterfield Ranch RV Park on Hwy. S2
  7. I've been making calls and checking websites on how I can donate my time to help out at evacuation centers or temporary animal shelters, and it's difficult to just be able to go somewhere to jump in and help out. Nowadays, you must go through training or red-tape just to volunteer some time.......it's very frustrating to me. So, I guess I'll have to get the training needed ahead of time to be able to help out in the next emergency / disaster situation. The way it looks right now, is that the only way I may be able to help quickly, is by donating $$$.

    Frustration with Volunteer Work

Well, I shoulda known.....Face to Face works best !! Instead of wasting time on the phone and internet calling these places, my time was better spent driving to them. I drove to 2 of the local Temp Animal Shelters near me, and the woman from Animal Control at the Lakeside Rodeo said they'd love to have a hand this weekend. So, I'll be going there this weekend to help water the horses, and clean up as they leave. Good news is, people and animals are going home. They were maxxed out at the Rodeo with 400 horses, and they're down to 100.

  10. If you have been wanting to help others, Here's some helpful links on how to go about it....most of volunteer work requires getting prepared to do it ahead of time, which means some type of training and/or registration with a group or organization........ FIRES - OLD

People, before you start going nuts with posting photos, please don't start posting photos from other websites and old fires here. Some in the previous post I saw 4 years ago. Please only post YOUR photos (or from your friends) from the current fires. And since photos are not the topic of this original post, we started a new topic for fire photos......some photos moved to that topic. Thanks
  13. I know many will be donating to organizations to help the fire victims, but also don't forget about our 4 legged friends, the Humane Society needs help to take care of all the animals in the temporary shelters. Link to donations page
  14. I saw them mention this on the news, which is actually within the Latest News Blog on the channel 8 news page, and page down to the Google Map Fire Incident Link. This is the best map I've seen that is updated about every hour...........wait a few seconds for the link to load after the page for Tiny URL pops up........ Here is the Google Fire Incident Link
  15. I figured there may be a lot of discussion about the fires, and lots of information to share about what is still happening, so I created a dedicated FIRESTORM Forum which is the place to discuss the fires. Please keep all FIRE discussions and info there, and all topics you post there should relate to the fires. And Good Luck to everyone. Many thanks to all the people out there working hard to protect life and property, and to everyone lending a hand to others in need.

I also have room for people to crash, cold beer and water, room in street to park vehicles, and a fenced yard, if anyone needs help in that respect.

  18. Hey all, my friend GusGus (Don) from Alaska should be arriving in San Diego Sunday afternoon/evening, he is in Flagstaff today, and was fixing a broken Alternator belt on his beemer. He is the guy who I met on ADVrider, who picked me up at airport in Anchorage and took me riding with his Alaska buds my first day on my Alaska trip. He is arriving on his BMW on his 4 Corners Tour of the USA. I got someone to cover a day of work for me on Monday, so I can hang with Don Sunday evening and Monday. I don't know exactly what we'll be doing, but he said getting together with my friends to eat and drink sounds good. So, if any of you can join us, I'll let you know what we have in plan once he gets here. If you want to try to show up, wherever we may be, please PM me to let me know, so I have an idea how many people may show. At Don's house, meeting the Alaska crew, my first day in Alaska....... Here's Don on my first day in Alaska, second from the left. Here's GusGus (sitting next to me) and FriarMike, when I met them by chance in Valdez, AK, when they were doing their 1000 mile Saddlesore ride in one day, while I was doing my AK ride. Hope some of you can meet us out for drinks and eats....maybe South Beach fish tacos, or something else.....if a bunch of people decide to show up, we may have to reserve an area at some restaurant. I'll let y'all know !! It's going to be great to see him. Rad
  19. From Stewards of the Seqouia.....please take a few minutes to contact at least one person on the committee or one of your legislators !! Subject: NREPA committee contact info Remember that the hearing for HR 1975 NREPA is on Thursday. If you can get a comment in before then great. If not I would still send it in as soon as you can because they may not vote on the bill for a while. I have updated the Save The West website to make it easier to contact the committee. You can now get the phone numbers and fax numbers for all committee members and also website email forms for most of them from this site: www.savethewest.net/takeAction.htm I found out that you cannot fax a single comment to the committee staff and ask them to distribute it. They will not do it. So we are forced to contact each one separately. At least now you won't have to look up the contact info. Also don't forget to go to Denny Rehberg's site and fill out the survey on NREPA http://www.house.gov/rehberg/survey.shtml . Pass the word to your friends and family and if they are ok with it fill out the survey for them. You do not have to live in Montana to fill out the survey. AGAIN ----- PASS THE WORD. THIS IS CRUNCH TIME. WE DON'T WANT TO REGRET NOT HAVING DONE EVERYTHING WE CAN IF THIS BILL PASSES. "It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds." --Samuel Adams - Leader in our Fight for Independence

The changes in the commission were influenced by many individuals and groups who work hard to protect our off-road rights and our access to public lands. Thanks to the people of CORVA, SDORC, and many other local California multiple use and off-road groups and all individuals involved who did something to help this change go through !! Unfortunately, there aren't enough people willing to do a little bit, or more.......to help the fight. So, if you're not yet a member of CORVA and/or SDORC, get to their websites and sign up !! Just a bit of motivation to any non-participants out there.
  21. i believes it is the one on the left hand side as you are coming in to ramona from 67 going north. it stands alone, and you can see if from the road. sonny Neither one of the Packard's is on the left hand side, both are on the right side. As Chris mentioned, it sounds like they are meeting at the "Original" Packards, further in town by the Circle K gas station.
  22. THIS (click on link) is gonna leave a mark.......ouch.
  23. San Diego Off-Road Coalition Update · The September/October issue of The Endangered Off-Roader is now available on our Web site · Camping Cookbook! To help raise money to fight to keep public land open for OHV recreation, SDORC will publish a camping cookbook. Once published we will be selling the books for $10.00. The books will be available at off-road shows and various other events. We are asking off-roaders to send in their favorite outdoor camping recipes; recipes that are easy to make outdoors, or to make at home and take with you. Please include your name and where you live, and send to Jan Chaney at jangeraghty@cox.net. We need them as soon as possible. We would like to go to press October 31, 2007. · SDORC has designed items with the SDORC logo for people to purchase. Go to www.zazzle.com and search for "San Diego Off-Road Coalition" to see what is available. Select from an assortment of shirts, mouse pads, tote bags, key chains, magnets, stickers and coffee mugs, and SDORC receives 7% of your purchase price to help keep your riding areas open. The shirts should be customized to add your name. If you click on "Customize it" you may see warnings indicating that the images are larger than originally designed and may not reproduce well. You may safely ignore those messages; the shirts print beautifully. If you have any questions please contact Jan Chaney at jangeraghty@cox.net. · We need help distributing flyers for our "Lost Lizard Fun Run" (www.sdorc.org/fun_run_flyer.pdf) to off-road stores around the San Diego area. If you can help, please contact our Fun Run Chairman Dennis Baker at 619.442.2692 for details. · Help SDORC at events! One of the most important things that SDORC does is participate as vendors at various off-road events. We are able to educate the public regarding OHV issues, and raise money by signing up new members and selling products such as raffle tickets, shirts, etc. But in order to do this successfully we need several volunteers at each event. The first such event is this Wednesday the 26th. SDORC has been invited to participate in a "Safety Stand-Down" at a local military base. Our role will be to pass along vital information that off-roaders are required need to know in California. Since many of our military are from out of state, they may be unaware of the rules, regulations, and legal battles we face regarding motorized recreation. This is a rare opportunity to reach out to our military forces and educate them on our legal and safety issues. Please call SDORC Director of Community Events, Denise Jones, at 619.252.0463. Next comes the Championship Off Road Race (CORR) race this weekend, the 29th & 30th, in Chula Vista (www.corracing.com). This is not only an opportunity to help out SDORC, but also to watch some great racing! Contact SDORC Vice President Scott Hillier at 619.390.5631. Finally, one of the biggest off-road events of the year is the Off Road Expo at the L.A. County Fairgrounds in Pomona (www.offroadexpo.com) October 6 & 7. The following table shows who we have when, and where we need more volunteers. Please call SDORC Director of Community Events, Denise Jones, at 619.252.0463.
