  1. I've been researching having stickers made on the internet. Here's what I'm thinking.... 1. 3" x 4" (or approximate dimensions) sticker that says "SHUT UP & RIDE" followed by the SDAR logo and web address, for car windows, your bike, etc. Sticker will look like the front logo from the 2007 Desert Dash T-shirt. 2. Small sticker about 2" x 3" with the SDAR logo and web address, for your bike. 3. A regular size BUMPER STICKER with the SDAR logo, web address, and "Dualsport Motorcycle Club & Ride Promoting" for windows, bumpers, or whatever. Please answer the POLL for this post. Thanks,
  2. After meeting Joliet (thanks Ken !!) to do ride layout from Ocotillo Wells to Plaster City on Saturday, I had to ride more today and Monday, so decided to get a room at Palm Canyon Resort in Borrego Springs. Got there and unloaded to hit the the road by myself about 3:00. Hit the first dirt a few miles later to start the final layout of Day 1 for the Desert Dash, with some new trails and new route for the morning of Day 1. Got to the Blu Inn at Ocotillo Wells about 4:30, then off to the Iron Door for a beer and watch the freak show Left there for a night ride back to Borrego Springs. I did about a 45 mile night ride, 80% dirt back to Borrego. What a blast !! Tomorrow, I need to run more trails thru Ocotillo Wells back to Borrego Springs. I'll probably go ahead and run the Squeeze and Dropoff (by myself), and GPS that whole route also, then the new routes thru Ocotillo Wells back to Borrego. Then load up and head home to work on Rollcharts on the computer. ANYONE AVAILABLE TO MEET ME EARLY MONDAY MORNING IN BORREGO SPRINGS TO RIDE WITH ME THE REST OF THE DAY ?????? I may ride by myself, but I'm never alone Rad
  3. Bagstr, after the DD, I will join you for some Buffalo riding. I'm gettin' bored riding the little girlie bike
  4. Chris, willl do.....I'll skip the Squeeze section, and ride out to OW to chart some changes to AB. Then I'll get back home earlier today. Thanks Crawdaddy !!

    SDAR Club Stickers.....PLEASE READ

I believe they will be ready, possibly Thursday, I had a lot made up....good price too, local company in Santee, if anyone needs stickers or signs. Don't know how I would get them to you....but, I will have them for sure at the Desert Dash.
  7. I will be out riding, charting mileages for rollchart changes and tracking with GPS for the Desert Dash this week, possibly part of Wednesday, but definitely Thursday and Friday. I will be riding in the Anza Borrego and Ocotillo Wells areas, and possibly Superstition also. Lots of stops involved, since I have to chart the mileage at each turn. Let me know if interested.....call me please, since I'm not on the computer much this week. See my number in the Members Only forums Contacts section. Thanks,
  8. Please see THIS POST for updates on ride entries.

  10. The following message is from a friend of mine I have known for a few years, who also rides a Ducati E900 Elefant. His dream has been to enter the Dakar Rally.....well, that time has come for him. San Diego Adventure Riders wants to help John fulfill his dream....we will be making a contribution to his race effort. Some proceeds from our last dualsport event will go to this, and if anyone is interested in contributing under the SDAR name, your name will be listed as participating in this partial sponsorship I'm excited for John, as his adventure is just beginning...........read on............ BTW, John and his Elefant have been on the front page of our site for quite some time now, the upper right hand photo at the top of the page.....Lucky Explorer Elefant riding through the silt on the Lucky Explorer Rally, 2005. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Well guys the adventure has begun……………… At the end of last year 06 I made the commitment to myself and my family to partake in the 2008 Dakar Ralley. As most of you already know, it has been a life long dream/obsession of mine. Every year for the last 15 or so, I get completely miserable for the month of January (during the ralley) and then for the rest of the year, I wear out video’s watching it over and over again. Finally in the fall of 2004 I had the opportunity to race the UAE Desert Challenge, which is the last of the FIM Cross Country World Rallies before the “big one” Dakar. The UAE Desert Challenge was a week long Dakar styled ralley across the sands of the Empty Quarter outside of Dubai and Abu Dhabi. That race went pretty well, finishing second in class against the worlds best ralley racers (only missing 1st, by 7 minutes after a week of racing) and 16th overall. Along with the UAE Ralley, I’ve honed my skills by racing Baja Score races, Best in the Desert, Nevada races and some local desert Hare and Hounds. So,,,,,,,,Technically and skill wise I’m ready, physically I’m almost ready and financially ???? (Anybody want to buy a couple of kids or a nice house in Mission Viejo? ) Anyways NO turning back now, so here’s the first of many updates on my progress. I may convert my Elefant site into a RACE-2-DAKAR website, but we’ll see. After much research, debate, sleepless nights and, combining that with my experience and engineering logic, I’ve chosen to race the Dakar on an Aprilia RXV 450 and probably more important, I’ve joined up with TeamRally Panamerica, www.rallypanam.com to have any hope of finishing this three week, 7000 mile offroad hell, across Africa. I’ve already started mocking up the larger front fuel tank (hopefully 6+ gallons) and next will be designing the rear tanks( approx 3 gal). From there I will have to redesign the exhaust system. Like I said, I’ll keep you posted on my progress. John Deykes -------------------------------------------------------------

    SDAR?

Bagstr....the way I see it, all types of riding is an adventure, doesn't matter what bike you're on (even road trips on pavement). I started this site with the help of a few friends (Mad Dog Mike, Kevin and Cameron) about 5 years ago, and we all ride Adventure Bikes, but also ride smaller dualsport bikes. In the last few years, since I really got into riding the big bikes, I've ridden them much more than the smaller 640 single. For instance, see this link about the High Sierra or this link about 7 MORE days in the Sierra and one more link - 10 days to Moab Bagstr, you just haven't ridden with us yet I plan on riding my 950 on the Desert Dash, so hope to ride with you then !!
  15. Original post edited due to content.
  16. I ride a big bike myself, and don't feel the need for a separate forum (unless general consensus states otherwise). This website is for all types of bikes and adventure riding. There's only a handful of riders who ride the Adventure Bikes here. Thanks for the input.
  17. For your info.....Eagle Peak starts near Julian and connects with Cedar Creek, which is open sometimes. Cedar Creek is a great dirt road, scenic and fun, and ends up at Boulder Creek. All the trails going west from there, down to Cedar & Mildred Falls, are closed to motor vehicles. I explored one once before there were gates and signs....rode the Elefant down the trail at the Eagle Peak / Cedar Creek intersection....it was a little hairball on the big bike, since there's some spots right next to a steep dropoff on the single track trail. Down at the bottom it was pretty rocky, and there were No Trespassing signs from Helix Water Authority (land adjacent to the reservoir). Sucks you can't get down there anymore.

    Monday-Jan 14

I have Monday and Tuesday off also.......anyone up for exploring some trails at Superstition, and laying out some DD routes in the area ?
  19. There is no spell checker available with the Forum software, so we will not be adding a spell checker........is correct spelling for these forums really that important ? As others pointed out, there are other forms of spell checkers available. Thanks,
  20. Yeah, awesome ride !! Have pics, but computer is down at home. Looking to buy a laptop this weekend, then I'll post pics.

  23. Here's a good definition of FLAMING and TROLLING....please read this. We do not want any Flaming or Trolling on this site. In short, here are the defintions, but please read the article in the link above. Flaming is the act of posting a comment or article in an open publishing forum that is intended to be hostile and insulting. The person who participates in flaming is termed a flamer. Each hostile comment or article is described as a flame (Wikipedia, 2005a). Flamebaiting is the act of posting a comment or article in an open publishing forum that is likely to start flaming or a flamewar; a series of flaming messages. Flamebaiting is not directly hostile or insulting; rather it is a passive-aggressive method in order to start flaming. The person who participates in flamebaiting is referred to as a baiter (Wikipedia, 2005b). Trolling is the act of posting a comment or article in an open publishing forum that is intended to provoke and disrupt the discussion of users by producing a large volume of frivolous responses (Bond, 1999). The content of such a post may consist of a foolish contradiction of common knowledge, a deliberately offensive insult to the readers or a broad request for trivial follow-up postings (Bond, 1999). The person who participates in trolling is termed a troll. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU'RE POSTING AND WHAT THE REASON IS BEHIND YOUR POST. If it's anything like Flaming and Trolling, DON'T POST IT.
  24. We are now also.... San Diego Adventure Riders.com (no spaces) .net & .org, so it's easy to tell people the web address. Also bought a few more so nobody can use anything similar to our name. SDadventureriders.com .net & .org The new stickers will say San Diego Adventure Riders.com The dualsport-sd.com still works and is the original domain. I will list all the domains once we have them all linked and they all work. SDAR.com was already taken. Thanks to Uncle Cameron for adding the links to the site server !!
