    Another Birthday Boy

Rob, Happy B-day !! This one's for you..... and this one too. The VP was thinkin' of you too........
  2. More bike photos......I'm playing with my new scanner, and having a good time looking at old pics. My first bike on my first big 3 week road trip, from NY to Wyoming in 1986 with my friend Tim on his Harley.....yes, that's me with the red '81 Seca 750....I put over 40,000 miles on the Seca in 4 years. Just call me Easy Rider.... and yes, we didn't wear our helmets for most of the trip, it was our first really big trip and we took advantage of the freedom..... My 2nd bike, '89 FJ1200 which I bought new and put 107,000 miles on her before her retirement. Here I'm on my 11,000 mile road trip from NY to San Diego in 6 weeks, the bikes posing at Bryce Canyon. My friend Larry was on his Ninja 1000. And the FJ again, fully loaded with camping gear on a 18 day trip from SD to Washington State. In this pic, I was dualsporting her to the most Northwestern point in the US.....Cape Flattery.
  3. Some pix from my racing days...... First on a FZR400 Yamaha in the 500cc class Here I'm passing on the outside....I used to love doing that in Turn 3 at Willow Springs, this might be Turn 2 at Willow After selling the FZR400 and taking a year off racing, a friend asked if I wanted to buy his GS500 Suzuki racebike....when he said $1100, I couldn't resist. That bike was great fun, and it still sits in my garage, not having been used in about 6 years.....man, I miss racing !! One of these days.......... The GS500 was so much fun, because I had to hold the throttle wide open with minimal braking around the track, to carry the corner speed and try to keep up with and catch the faster bikes, like the FZR400's and EX500's. Great fun, there's nothing like Roadracing !!

    Extra Desert Dash T-Shirts ?

Bum, I have 2 of them......I'm saving one for you, there is another extra one
  11. Have a few Medium, Double XL, and one Triple XL leftover, and if anyone wants a shirt or an extra, let me know....if I get enough requested, I need a minimum of 24 to place an order. Front of shirt Back of shirt Shirts will be between $10 to $15, including shipping. If you order a shirt, I'll send you some SDAR stickers along with it. Thanks,
  12. Hey all, the original post was meant to be informative and constructive, maybe enlighten a few people. It was not meant to put a negative twist on the ride......if it did, sorry !! Want to thank all the riders for participating, because it's YOU, the riders who make this a successful event. Thanks Again !!
  13. Brett, I couldn't have said it better myself. It's not about preaching to you all about what not to do, it's about you all thinking about what you do & how it impacts our image as motorcyclists. This is ESPECIALLY true when it's a big, organized event. Thanks to all for your input.
  14. Kevin, the point of the matter is, that if a guy rides a wheelie out of a gas station or campground on an organized event, it makes us all look bad, and it is on this specific event, which will make people look down at the event. Of course the promoter can't get cited for the actions of someone on the ride, they get their own ticket or whatever, but the promoter does get to hear the negative input or take the flack from the rangers and community. Fact of the matter is, whenever someone does something stupid, especially on an ORGANIZED event, it affects us all in the future. Kevin, you state cutting corners in a sandwash, the tracks will be gone after some heavy winds....fact is, the Head Ranger asked that WE DO NOT CUT CORNERS, and people were asked on the Ride Info Sheet not to cut corners, and they did it anyway. Doesn't matter what's right or wrong here, if we are asked not to do things by the land agencies, and we do them anyway......it will jeopardize being able to get permits again. So Kevin, you got the time to go stand tall and confront the land agencies about your comments or concerns ?
  15. And to those of you who like to pull wheelies all over the place, especially in front of the campground........please read the following from Kieth at D37...... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When a promoter or club pulls a permit they assume a huge liability. Before the riders get to enjoy riding that roll chart of hundreds of miles, many many hours are put in preparing the route and conferring with the land managers of that area. As promoters or club Presidents we stand in front of the BLM, Forest Service, State Parks officer or Preserve Managers and tell them how we are stewards and guardians of our lands. We, as riders, have to be. If we aren't, it will be a simple lawsuit to keep us out of these areas with our motorized recreation. The Rangers pre ride the routes we apply for, then do a post ride. They grant our yearly permits based on their findings. Last year I had to beg, plead and put my first born up for collattoral to get Red Rock Canyon in Nevada for LA-B2V. The previous year riders were speeding on a deserted mountain road. Nobody was cited, but warnings were given. It wasn't blatant, just a little faster than posted on a deserted mountain road. I complained that it was on a public road and I wasn't responsible. The Chief Ranger then informed me I (the permit holder, not D-37) was responsible for the actions of the riders from the start, to the finish on and off the road. That's why we freak out when a guy wheelies out of a gas station in full view of the citizens of the area we're guests in. Riding areas are shrinking and Dualsport is the best kept secret to getting really some of the best riding areas our state has to offer. Please help up preserve our rights to ride. Follow the instructions, stay on the trail, run a quiet pipe and have fun! ========================================================== So, there you have it. Whoever signs their name on the event permits, is responsible for all of YOUR actions, those of you riding an event. Please think about what you do before you do it and how it will affect others !!
  16. Craig....we wouldn't tell them they can't ride if their bike is over the db limit. We'd write down who they are and what bike they ride, and if they showed up at another event without fixing the loud pipe, then they'd be asked not to ride. I know a guy from D37 who has a sound meter and is certified, and would be more than happy to come down if we let him know ahead of time.

Desert Dash party favor for the gal-pal?

How do you know the theme is that, it may have changed.......change is always good You'll find out tomorrow.
  21. I'm soooooooo confused..........I think my response above was supposed to be to the other head bashing post
  22. T-shirts are bitchin', club stickers are done, we have new trails on both days, got some great raffle giveaways, and the Head Ranger at Anza Borrego State Park is very cool.......the rider limit has been "upped" a bit. I already ordered shirts, and if there's any left, you can buy one, but must reserve them for people at the ride first.
  23. You all need to lighten up, and give Hammer a break.......I think too many people take him seriously, when he's not.......or they misinterpret things. Craig's been around here for awhile now, so we should all be used to him "livening things up" Craig apologized in a PM to me about what he said, when I didn't think an apology was necessary. If it didn't bother me, why'd it bother so many of you? Lighten up people. Not everyone is going to get along perfectly on this site. I enjoy seeing a mix of different personalities, and not everyone is always going to be Mr. Niceguy and say things properly......we don't need no stinkin' PC...(politically correct) Please, if you want to take stabs at each other, do it in PM's, not in the open forums. This thread will now return back to its regularly scheduled programming.....something about a ride I think,.
  24. I've been researching having stickers made on the internet. Here's what I'm thinking.... 1. 3" x 4" (or approximate dimensions) sticker that says "SHUT UP & RIDE" followed by the SDAR logo and web address, for car windows, your bike, etc. Sticker will look like the front logo from the 2007 Desert Dash T-shirt. 2. Small sticker about 2" x 3" with the SDAR logo and web address, for your bike. 3. A regular size BUMPER STICKER with the SDAR logo, web address, and "Dualsport Motorcycle Club & Ride Promoting" for windows, bumpers, or whatever. Please answer the POLL for this post. Thanks,
  25. After meeting Joliet (thanks Ken !!) to do ride layout from Ocotillo Wells to Plaster City on Saturday, I had to ride more today and Monday, so decided to get a room at Palm Canyon Resort in Borrego Springs. Got there and unloaded to hit the the road by myself about 3:00. Hit the first dirt a few miles later to start the final layout of Day 1 for the Desert Dash, with some new trails and new route for the morning of Day 1. Got to the Blu Inn at Ocotillo Wells about 4:30, then off to the Iron Door for a beer and watch the freak show Left there for a night ride back to Borrego Springs. I did about a 45 mile night ride, 80% dirt back to Borrego. What a blast !! Tomorrow, I need to run more trails thru Ocotillo Wells back to Borrego Springs. I'll probably go ahead and run the Squeeze and Dropoff (by myself), and GPS that whole route also, then the new routes thru Ocotillo Wells back to Borrego. Then load up and head home to work on Rollcharts on the computer. ANYONE AVAILABLE TO MEET ME EARLY MONDAY MORNING IN BORREGO SPRINGS TO RIDE WITH ME THE REST OF THE DAY ?????? I may ride by myself, but I'm never alone Rad
