WEST FEST 2009 - Buena Vista, CO.
KTMrad replied to Crawdaddy's topic in Upcoming Organized or Promoted Rides and Events
You probably won't be too crazy about the ride on pavement with knobs, but the pay-off should be realized once off-road..... I'd be interested to hear what tires Randy used on his 950 for TAT? The only good tire for dirt and street on the big bike is the Continental TKC80. On the way to the start of the TAT in Colorado, I put on a used Skorpion rear tire I had in the garage (MT90)....great 80/20 tire, works decent in the dirt. (I've ridden thru Fish Creek and the Dropoff on the Skorpion, and all over the desert with one.) In Pueblo Colorado, had a new TKC80 waiting for me and swapped tires day before the start of the TAT. On the TAT, I had another tire waiting in Ely, Nevada which was half way throught the TAT. Then I wore out that TKC by the end of the TAT in Oregon, picked up another Skorpion rear in Medford, Oregon for the ride home. On these types of trips, it's important to plan on being able to get a new tire at a shopr, or have tires shipped in advance, then plan on having them swapped somewhere or changing them yourself. It's a bitch on the 950 changing the rear tire, so I have the shops do it. -

It's finally cool, time for a desert ride.

I won't be there since I'm riding on Sunday....I'm meeting the maniacs who ride with Riceless 950 from ADVrider, up in Morongo Valley, 120 mile hardcore loop, hopefully we make it to Johnson Valley. Should be a very interesting day.......my type of riding on the 950 Papa and Joliet, have fun out there. Soon, it will be time to start prerunning for the Desert Dash. -
I've never been that crazy about MT21's either but that's what the previous owner had on the front of the 620 when I picked it up.....it's lasted well, worn a bit funky from all the street miles..... but the knobs on MT21's are pretty low/wide/closely spaced right from the get go......which is why I thought I'd try the MT16 this time around......might try a set of those MCXH;s next time around......or not.....who knows..... Chris, if you do half pavement miles, you should try TKC-80's on your Adventure. At least try them out sometime, if you're not doing all dirt. On your bike, they should last at least 3000 rear, 6000+ front. I get about 2000 on the rear of the 950 and that's riding it hard, in rocks, and on pavement. Front lasted me the entire TAT trip, over 5700 miles.

Myself, I generally don't really listen to what others have to say about tires......it's just their opinion, and you know how opinions go. I try a tire myself, and if I like it, I use it. I'll listen to what others say about a tire, if they have the same type of riding and have a similar riding style and experience. For the dirt, mileage is not really much of a consideration for me (unless it wears out way too quick)......it's how well the tire works. For example....for me, the D606 work fine front and rear in the dirt, the front even works on the 950. And I can't stand MT-21's , never liked them after using them years ago on my DR350. For Adventure Bikes, the Continental TKC-80 is the best all around tire, by far. Just my 2 cents.....

Debating doing TAT next June. Sounds like a good time. June is too early.....still too much snow in the high elevations, you'll miss too much of the awesome stuff. I suggest middle of August.

Thanks all.......a good friend of mine who does Construction Defect work on the Architectural side may be able to do it for us.......if not, I'll look up these other leads. Thanks again !!
-
He forgot an important item.......I usually have my little friend with me.....Mr. Beretta. On the TAT ride, I had 100 rounds with me, planned on shooting them all off, but always forgot to stop/shoot, and only shot one time

Ken......I'm on the fence right now. Would prefer Sunday, and also thinking about going up to Morongo Valley to ride with Riceless950, who likes to ride the gnarly stuff on the big bikes. Not sure yet........if I decide to ride with you tomorrow, I'll call tonight. -
Rick Mayer Dual Sport Saddle Sale (through 10/31)
KTMrad replied to Crawdaddy's topic in Open Discussion
Then people will give you a hard time for "riding a couch" on the trails But at least your ass won't have a "hard time" while riding. Be aware, the wide seat does get slightly in the way when throwing your leg over, etc., but you'll just get used to it. Rick Mayer Saddles have been around a long time. -
Thanks......I'll find out what we need done and if they're interested. Someone in house here knows A-cad, but he hasn't done it in a long time. How about some of that home brew ?!! mmmmmmmm

Have Flip Flops.......will travel.

Maybe you can ask why Ducati doesn't make a few mods to their Multistrada to make it a real Adventure Bike and compete with BMW & KTM. I know, they probably don't think it's worth it in sales, but I'd sure like to see one....I'd probably own one.

2008 Pharohs Rally Torino(Turin) to Cairo
KTMrad replied to robertaccio's topic in Off-Road Racing Events, Discussions, Rally Racing, Info, etc.
My Ducati Elefant (well, not my bike) won that rally in the early 90's......if I did my homework, I'd remember what year. -
Ummmm........not sure about some, but possible identity theft, and sharing too much information on the internet may be possible reasons.

This should be forwarded to CORVA, SDORC, the AMA, Blue Ribbon Coalition, etc.

Check the website, link is in my post, click on Motoport........they're in San Marcos, in the same strip mall as Social Services (or some type of services). Wayne is the owner, great guy......they can make the stuff to your dimensions so it fits well.

My Kevlar Pants were only $489 out the door. Don't see where you're coming up with $817 for the jacket w/liner........but I haven't analyzed it closely. Also, I didn't get the liner with the pants........because if it's cold, I put on jeans under, and if it's raining, I wear a rainsuit over. KEVLAR protection............PRICELESS !!

That is actually a good idea. But of course, isn't that what a "Pit Tootsie" is for ??!! Ruh Roh, don't let the girls see that comment please !! -
Removing flex marks and scratches from plastics

It's a dirt bike.......they're supposed to have scratches..........guess y'all haven't seen my 950 !! -
But it's an overweight 650 single !! Ride to Alaska next year ?? Hope you plan on over a month off, to be able to enjoy the ride, and enjoy Alaska. I want to ride up there one year, but will take a couple of months to do the whole trip, because I'd want to off-road some on the way up and back. Dug, you're a maniac........take Crawdaddy, I'm sure he'll go
-
C'mon, you know they mean doing wheelies.........yes, they could've worded it better. A bunch of BS laws.....hopefully the AMA is working on them !! Hope everyone belongs to the AMA

Kevlar is the best........and it comes with some great armour in it, and it breathes because the pores are so big, the air passes thru........it's pricey, but well worth it, from Motoport / Cycleport. I bought the pants, and will get the jacket when my 1000 Denier Cordura Motoport jacket wears out. Motoport is in San Marcos, made right there on site !! Check out the warranty on the Kevlar Mesh....can't be beat !!
