Need a mechanic shop for Kawasaki

Last night I unhooked battery and let it sit for about 15 min unhooked. Visual inspection was fine, no moisture on outside.Nice and clean. No corrosion. Leads look good. Tender leads look good. Hooked everything back up and all lights work as bright as they should be. Horn is as loud as normal. I did not try the screwdriver trick ( didnt know about that). I will try that when I get home. See picture below.... place a screwdriver between these two screws yes? Need to hit start button or just have the key in "on" position and bike in neutral? Since I have her apart I am going to replace small maintenance items. Already did oil and filter. Whats better Air Filter... Uni or No-Toil? Any recommendations for a good spark plug? Thanks guys!

Need a mechanic shop for Kawasaki

Battery is charged, has been on tender for days. All fuses good, none blew out. She doesn't even try to start. One quick "click" noise is all I get. If the battery runs low.... it will make fast repetitive click noises as I hold the start button down. I am not sure how old the battery is since I purchased the bike used about 3 months ago.

Need a mechanic shop for Kawasaki

I have heard bad things from friends about OB Moto so i am hesitant to take it there. If she goes to the shop it will be Skeeters. Thanks for the advice. I have been picking the bike apart and testing things out. Im thinking it might be the starter relay but havent replaced it yet. I know all fuses are good, full tank of clean gas, changed oil and filter, checked all electrical connections and it seems fine. Turn the key on and the dash lights up, blinkers, horn, lights all work but it just wont start. I can hear a "click" that sounds like its coming from the starter relay and I can physically feel the "click" if my hand is on the relay when I hit the starter button. I dont know if that means its a bad starter relay or the relay is working but a short in the wiring to ignition? Electrical is not my strong suit what so ever. I just dont want to throw unnecessary parts at it and see if one sticks. Bike is currently in eleventeen pieces so I havent tried to bump start yet. Any thoughts?

    welcome! Nice lookin' Kawi
  12. That route looks awesome. Id love to do a ride like that but not with that tour group. I cant believe how much $$$ they want for it. I guess it makes sense if you are renting an ADV bike from them though. Anyways, thanks for the link...something for my future

    New to SDAR from OB

Hey guys. New to SDAR. Fairly new to riding. I grew up here in San Diego (proud Ramona boy) until I was about 18 occasionally riding in Ocotillo and Borrego but did most of my riding on family trips to San Felipe. I was more into surfing than riding so I ended up moving to Hawaii after high school. I lived in HI for a few years and did a little trail riding there but again mainly surfing. Some family medical issues brought me back to SD and I will probably never leave again. Now I am almost 30 and just sold my Zuma to buy a 2010 KLX250s. It has some upgrades : full FMF Q4 exhaust and header, ASV levers, short shifter, acerbis hand guards, renthal bars, nice rear rack with cargo bag and a fanny pack looking bag on the bars. There may be more internal upgrades but I am not sure. For a 250cc she is quicker than a fart in a skillet... I will say that! Anyways, thats my story. Just wanted to say Hi. You guys seem great. I already ran into 2 members on a ride out to the desert and they were super friendly and very interested in my bike. Cant wait to meet more of you awesome people. Hit me up if you wanna ride! Preferably meet somewhere near the coast since that is my locale.

    New to SDAR from OB

haha it probably does look funny. I ride mainly 6' fish or similar but I have a longboard for weak summer days and it was interesting carrying that thing to say the least. Over 20 mph and you are holding onto a sail. I generally rode less than a mile with a board. Thankfully I live real close to some good surf at sunset cliffs so I have been walking or taking my jeep to surf while I figure out the surf rack situation. Let me know how that Nomadic Cycle Rack works out
  16. Cant make this one due to Groomsman obligations... who has a wedding shower anyways? what is that? Well Ill keep my eyeballs posted for the next noob ride because I really wanna make it out there with you guys. The dingo will be there in spirit!

SDDiver - did you put a surf rack on your bike? Im looking at the CSR moped rack from Carver. I think it will mount nicely to my rear rack but havent purchased yet so wondering what you use... if anything. I used to just one hand my Zuma and hold my board but OBV wont work with a clutch. Was super sketchy even on the Zuma one handed in traffic

    Run to the Border...

Awesome write up. That border fence road looks like a dirt bike freeway. I want some!!
  21. I picked up my first Dual Sport bike ( 2010 KLX250S ) a couple weeks ago but have only done short rides around my house in Ocean Beach and up to Cabrillo Monument. I decided on a last minute trip out to meet my family out at the Agua Caliente campground off S2. Hopped on the bike and headed out Friday after work with some clothes in a backpack and a sleeping bag on the rack. I admit I dont do freeways because of the crazy drivers we have so I was in for a good amount of saddle time. Started in Ocean Beach and made my way thru Mission Valley to Kearney Mesa and eventually up to the 67. Took 67 up thru Ramona to connect with 78 and made my first stop @ Dudleys in Santa Ysabel to rest my bum. Then I saddled up and headed into Julian where I stopped for gas. The bike caught the attention of a couple in a nice red Rubicon. After chatting while I pumped my gas, it turns out they are members here. Nice to meet you Wonder Woman and The Bees! Full tank of gas in the Kawi and a Red Bull in my belly, down banner grade I went. Sun started setting over the blooming Ocotillo as I got on S2 in the desert (probably the most beautiful part of the ride). I pulled into the family camp right when the sun was dropping behind the mountains. Couple cold beers and some stories then went to bed. Woke up Saturday morning to a breakfast burrito and a bloody mary then took a ride out to Vallecitos Creek. Hit Carrizo Wash and Hueso Wash for the first off road ride on the new bike. Didnt want to get too far off into nowhere since I was alone so I cruised back to camp, hit the hot springs and made my way back to Ocean Beach. Just me with the little Kawi for about 250 miles, 7 hours, and a full face shield of bug splat. Not a bad way to break in my new bike and adventure spirit!
  22. Yes LOTS of pavement but no truck no choice haha. I was really impressed with how that 250 kept up speed for so long on the road
