  1. I’m coming from north county SD, so I might just do that. Ideally I’d like to stay off the highway as much as possible once I’m up there. Looks like dirt trails are possible from glider port

    Kinda equilibrium

Before and after 45 more miles of very rocky and sandy trails and 45 more miles of high way at 50-75. Tire is wearing about the same and as other dirt tire I’ve tried including the golden enduro, motoz enduro, and ac10. Still really happy with it
  3. Was time for a new tire. Local place has these on sale for $64 out the door. It’s sticky for sure, needed dish soap to spoon it on the rim. I’m sure it’ll be good, just wondering how long it’ll last.

But I just bought one! Price was too good to pass up. $1490 from Craigslist. Bike wouldn’t run without the choke out and even then wouldn’t idle. But the bike is clean and has a bunch of goodies including a rekluse, protection, and a big tank! picked it up Sunday night. Checked valves on wed. Picking up a couple o-rings for the carb today, I’ll let you guys know if I can get it running well! Here are the first pics of my brand new-ish 2009 400 xcw Notice the dust on the WRONG side of the filter? I hope it didn’t cause too much damage. I’ll be getting a leak down test done by my local shop to check on the engine. Valves were all perfect, so I’m optimistic. Also notice the dual sport kit that’s installed. It’s still green sticker but I might go with an SD plate... we’ll see. When I first brought it home I could keep it running if I kept the revs way up, but it would bog and power felt like a 250f. Hoping to cure all that today with the clean carb and a few small replacement carb parts along with some tuning. Starting this thread mainly for my own records of what I’ve done to the bike. If this bikes engine turns out to be solid it might replace my 98 wr400. I’ll keep you guys posted.

Thanks for the help. It’s jetted and the carb is good enough. Definitely a lean spot about 1/4-1/3 throttle but that is not noticeable when warmed up. Forks were rebuilt initially, then swapped for some 4cs forks that had been gone through and work better than the stockers ever did. I was skeptical too, but this one never bent and I’m not easy on it. Lots of big rocky sections. Oil isn’t migrating that I’ve noticed, mostly blowing out the engine breather tube (mine is vented to the atmosphere and I see a wet spot after long high reving). I also have been seeing some engine oil behind the air filter lately. Anyone know what these two symptoms mean? Piston blow by? Valve stem seals? Valves leaking? Normal when slightly overfilled oil?

Also, the bike has turned into a 2-stroke. It likes to snack on rotella. Probably needs a top end. Maybe bottom too at this point. But it still starts and runs fine. I’ll update y’all when I get around to a rebuild.

Been burning through air filters, oil and and tires this whole time. Bike has been great. Been on the same chain and sprockets, they got a swap today. front sprocket is pretty bad. Rear is pretty good. Chain is missing a bunch of o-rings and the ones that remain are ALL dried and cracked. I don’t maintain this like I should went from 14-50 to 14-52. bike feels quicker to rev and much more playful. 6th gear is still plenty tall. Should’ve made the swap a while ago.

    Kinda equilibrium

Update: great tire. Tons of grip everywhere, i feel like a superhero on the bike. notes: -does seem to be wearing pretty quickly, but continues to grip well -is super tall. I had to lower my forks a few mm to balance the taller rear. also, it tore up my mud gaurd. Luckily I needed a chain and sprockets so I was able to move the wheel back a bit. dont have any pics of the tire. I’ll post an update after tomorrows 100 mile dual sport ride.
  10. Looks like the camp grounds open up April 22, so I'm assuming the trails are the same. Cactus flats is open year round according to the website. No answer on the phone yet.
  11. Anyone know how it’s looking up there? Headed up in 2 weeks with the gf, wondering if I should bring the bike.
  12. I’ll make the call and let y’all know
  13. Just as the title says, how do I "like" a post or pic? I just don't see the "like" button on either my laptop or mobile but I really want to like some of these posts! Please help. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious here.

Very Strange. I see the other likes but I do not get any options when I hover over. Also no grey heart, just the blue of other people's likes. Could it be I don't have enough posts/reputation on the forum?

Hm, don't see it. Attached is a screenshot. Thanks for trolling my post with likes. Must be nice!

    Kinda equilibrium

This looks a lot like the Dunlop D606 and Pirelli MT21, both of which I've tried. Both performed pretty good with accel/braking grip, but would let go unpredictably when sliding to the side. How's that Tusk Dsport do with side sliding when it breaks free? does it predictably slide? Or break free all at once with little warning? So far I really like this equilibrium. TONS of traction and totally predictable when it did break free. I only rode about 100-150 miles, so I can't talk to longevity yet. But we rode tons of sand, slick rocks, about 15 miles of street, dirt, little mud. Incredible grip all around.
  19. Got the day off. Looking for one or two riding buddies to explore a gnarly trail I found last time on my uncles property before the snow keeps us out. Riding level advanced, but I'm out of shape, so the pace will be easy. I'm on a 2009 ktm 400 with a plate. I think we need plates around this area. Meet at the park n ride the intersection of the 76 and 15 around 7am, ride a few hours. I have room in my truck for one, maybe two other bikes if we want to squeeze. Anyone in?
  20. Well I'm gonna have to push this off, turns out I have responsibilities to tend to. I still want to get up there before the season is over, just not this week... Been pushing this off for too long
  21. I know the jeep trails are closed, but I’ve got an uncle with some private property trails... Is snow already covering the ground up there? Not much precip this year, hoping to get one more ride in
  22. Thanks for the info. Was going to try for the weekend of the new year, but looks like it might snow right before. We’ll see

    2009 Ktm 400 no spark

Drive 2 hours to find out my 400xcw didn’t have spark. Drove two hours home at least I had the day off. In the garage with a multimeter, looks like it’s the pulse generator. Replacement on the way. Also notice a leaking fork. Dang it. I’ll wait until the bike is running to send the forks out.
