Marijuana?? If anybody's growing it at this time of year they'd be a miracle farmer. Or indoors. That's not to discount that some people may not like intruders no matter what time of year it is. I've been past the Paradise many times but not eaten there since I usually head for the Mex place at the west end of town.

Hmmm...that looks like it might be an interesting addition. Internet notes show that there's snow along the trail but people have driven it in the past few days.

Adding to the knee brace database... After reading a bunch of reviews, I felt that any of the major ones will provide protection; I liked the cinch cables on these.

Thanks to good help from Van & So Cal Mule, I finally got in the first ride on my '07 450 EXC. I bought the bike earlier this year shortly after breaking four ribs, so between healing time, freshening it up and general delays it took me a while to get it ready. Loaded the Mosko Moto bags with tools and went out to Anza Borrego. Despite my best efforts at getting myself seriously wounded, the guys led me on a 70-mile trip in and out of the Park. Man, I hated getting up early but the good part was we finished in time for lunch! Great day on the bike with almost no other traffic in the desert. A couple of pix from the day. I, of course, am not in any of the photos from my first ride. Oh, almost forgot: LOVE the orange bike!!

CARB has proposed significant changes to the Red Sticker program. The changes would eliminate all Red Sticker bikes within a few years. Ooooohhhh..... That list of mods leads me to believe you knew what you wanted. Since I started riding on 2-stroke street bikes, ring-a-dings will always be the ultimate. Fingers crossed for the street version.

My apologies for diverting from the diversion, but what's the best way to access Eagle Peak Road from 78? I'm just starting to learn about all the dirt options down here. How does the road past Laguna Hansen compare to Compadres Trail? Technically, I mean. A buddy and I are in San Felipe now and thinking about using the Laguna Hansen option to Tecate since we've covered Compadres Trail twice before. BTW, I'm on a Buell Ulysses with 17" Conti Trails--there's nothing "trail" about them but I can easily handle something like Compadres or Coco's.

Just one of many helpful guys I need to thank. Jim loaded the GPS files onto my Garmin and I figured out how to use 'em on Saturday morning. Big thanks to all the volunteers that make Desert Dash happen. This was my first time and I had more fun than I could believe.

Trying not to pump the forum with questions that already have answers, but I'm new to the DD and have a few things to ask. I suppose I could send a message to Randy but maybe others also want to know. Does trail/routing info arrive ahead of time? I'm hoping to narrow down the routes I can read about before the event. What meals are NOT provided? Reading prior posts it seems that SDAR provides lunch stops on both days and Saturday dinner...am I on my own for breakfasts and maybe Friday night? Where is gas along the routes? My KLX has a 4-gal tank so I'm not too worried about range, just want an idea of what's out there. Being pretty new to desert riding, how many sections will I have to bypass if I want to finish before dark? (Lots of subjectivity to that question.)

Thanks for the replies. I have a Garmin Zumo 550; designed mostly for the street but okay off-road with the biggest difference that I don't have topo. Not an issue for this weekend. If nothing else I should be able to get the routes onto an SD card.

A question I didn't get the chance to ask at last week's meeting: How do I get the GPS tracks onto my GPS if we don't get the file in advance? I'm not bringing my computer to the Dash. Randy's told me that there's also a roll chart but never having used one of those I'm reluctant to count on figuring it out while I'm riding on new trails. BTW, it was nice to meet a few of y'all at the meeting. Looking forward to meeting more this weekend.

Hey there, SDAR folks. While I usually try to keep personal info off the Web, I don't want to be the new rude guy so here goes... We moved to VC full-time in September after visiting my wife's in-laws for nearly 30 years. Until a few years ago my riding was almost all pavement--several across-the-country loops and decades of road racing. I got a Buell Ulysses so I could follow the fire roads, and after taking that to places it probably wasn't designed to go decided to get something smaller. Right now it's a KLX400SR that's taken me to Baja and a week's ride through A-B and Joshua Tree. Those don't really qualify me for riding the Desert Dash, I suppose, but I signed up anyway--see some of you next month!

Randy, Just in case another option's needed, we can also host him for any nights that week. I've got a barn and tools if he wants to work on the bike. Regards, Kevin

Finally, I waited long enough that someone else started the thread. I'll chime in as another noob. With luck, a couple of local youngsters (relative) will be going with me but we'd probably welcome another rider. At least one of the guys will leave me in the dust. My dirt experience has followed my roadracing years; before that it was impossible to wrap my head around the front tire sticking in dirt. A dirty corner in roadracing sucks. About 7 years ago I took the RawHyde school ( ) on my Ulysses, followed by two trips to Baja. Yes, I went offroad with the Uly which made me more determined to not do it again. Hence, the KLX400SR (DR-Z rebadged) a few years back and two more trips to Baja. Riding a bike that's 200 pounds lighter and had real knobby tires was a revelation! I'm looking forward to this.
