  1. I absolutely love the Sena. Love it. We tested the range out to probably 1/3rd of a mile in Ocotillo on flat dez (nobody was elevated) and it worked great. Not totally sure how far out it's capable of going, or how that might improve if one of us was elevated. I do think they're intended to be used with other "paired" Senas at relatively close range though. The lack of wires was so friggin enjoyable. I've used the Rugged Radio PTT system with a Yaesu for a while and I never got used to the wires in the cockpit. Having ZERO wires was so enjoyable with the Sena. I love to ride to music and the Sena bluetooth syncs to my smarthphone really easily, and the sound quality was 10+. In fact, I could give an "OK Google ... call _____" command and it worked great. Had a phone conversation while riding and I guess how I sounded was great to the person I was talking too. The best feature for me was that when you "PAIR" the Sena with another Sena (my buddy out in Ocotillo had one too) you get an open line. So, when I press the large toggle dial on the unit itself (attached to the outside of my helmet), then it basically opens up comm line between the other Sena and the line stays open ... meaning, you don't have to press to talk ... we can literally just talk between the two of us like we are on the phone. Pretty killer. Also, if I was listening to music when my buddy opened up the comm line then the Sena would automatically pause the music so we could talk ... when one of us closed the comm line my music automatically started playing again. Super cool stuff. I give the Sena an A+. Two enthusiastic thumbs up.
  2. Thanks for pre-running, Pres. Gotta big party for "that game". I've never made the DD before, but plan to this year. I hear it's a blast. Seriously - thanks for all your efforts.
  3. I'm game for the March dates. '13 500 EXC is dialed in and ready to go. I started running the Sena SMH-10 for comms. It blows away my Yaesu PTT system (Rugged Radios). I can bring the short wave set up if needed but the Sena SMH-10 is twice as good and only $150. Killer setup. Went out to Ocotillo last weekend. FRI/SAT was epic. Made it home Sunday before the weather hit. Would love to give Baja a go with a good, experienced crew.
  4. Guys, any ideas for a great bulb on the '13 500 EXC? Should I just replace it stock, is there some after market bulb that's really better than another? Thanks - Troy
  5. Great to hear your son is back on the bike. What a great story - really happy for you both.
  6. Will try for wed. Just got hit with the flu. Unreal.

  9. Vet rider, but a total ABDSP noob ... as in never been. I grew up riding in the OW off road park, but now with a plated bike I'd love to explore all the other plated stuff, which I hear everyone calling different things ... Borrego, ADBSP, State Park, etc. I've seen pictures of a narrow wash (fish creek maybe?) with tall canyon walls, and it looks like you could barely squeeze a car through one section. Is that called "the squeeze"? I'd love to check that out. I've also seen "fish creek" which looks like a super fun wash, and "pinyon trail". One last question, we'll be trucking the bikes out from Poway and I'm wondering where the best staging area is for all these types of trails. I know I just missed a ride last week through all this stuff, but I just couldn't make it out. If anyone has GPS tracks I'd love those, too. Thanks, guys! - Troy
  10. Great point. I've got the 4.1 Acerbis with a 200 mile range for my EXC but my buddies have about a 100 mile range on their 450x's. Do you think it would be better to trailhead farther south at Carrizo and start there? We could ride north through the washes, and up through OW to Borrego for food & gas, then up and around like Crawdaddy's track (I think that was Font point - seemed like a killer viewpoint) over to Pinyon, then "up and over" to Fish Creek and back down to the starting trailhead at Carrizo. Is that biting off more than we can chew you think? Quit f'n around and just start/end at Pinyon per the track set - ha! Twist the throttle, follow the doted line, and smile.......bitches Well it looks like somebody didn't have their coffee yet! LOL! Seriously thought, thanks for the tracks.

  12. Sweet. We're shooting for Sunday at this point. If we go I'll post it here ... will be an "advanced" ride ... fast pace.
  13. Roger that. Makes sense. Thx again.
  14. Well - looks like we're all changing the ride to this weekend - nobody can ride WED. Thanks for the help, guys. Much appreciated. If it all solidifies I'll post a ride notice. We'll probably take off from the Pinyon Trailhead. Once we hit fish creek we may dip down south a bit to hit the Carrizo stuff, but on the ABDSP trail map it seems to indicate the "diablo drop off" is "one way" and not possible to go over traveling "north to south". True? Not true? Is that a jeep issue and no problem for bikes?
  15. Sweet pic. I was wanting to head out tomorrow - still waiting to hear back from some buddies. If tomorrow doesn't work we're thinking of Saturday/Sunday just after Christmas. I'll see if "on any sunday" (Craig) wants to come as well.
  16. Just downloaded the .gpx file no problem?!?! All 7 tracks are still there. 01 track goes to Fish Creek. Tracks 02-07 lead you around the rest of the way...... Sand Canyon (Loren's pic above) is a short/dead end spur within Fish Creek.......a worthy side trip......there is NOT a way point set for it in the Anza Loop tracks......here's a link with GPS coordinate: http://www.dirtopia.com/wiki/Sandstone_Canyon My bad. Found a glitch with my GPS phone app called ViewRanger. It's been tits up till now with this issue here. Your GPX track I downloaded from ADV Rider only showed up as Track 1 in VIewRanger. However, I went to Google Earth and imported the same track and I see the full cycle. Thanks much.
  17. Perfect, thanks. So, if we take off from this location we don't have to go back up the "dropoff" to get back to the truck, right? Is there a way to circle around a different way back to the car?
  18. Right on - thanks. Great write up. Super cool ride with your son. I downloaded the gpx track it only seemed to be from Pinyon trailhead down to fish creek. Where is "Slot Canyon"? I know where Kane springs road is, and I understand how you headed back down the 78 from Borrego, but I don't know where "Slot Canyon" is. Does that get you back to the Pinyon trailhead?
  19. Can't make it out there until around 11. If you are doing a figure eight type route will you be coming back by the parking spot at all? If not, no worries. I will catch you next time.

    Desert Rides

Count me in for sure. Growing up I rode all over Ocotillo, but just the actual red/green sticker areas. Now with a plated bike I'd love to do the areas you're talking about. 2nd week in NOV doesn't work for me, but 3rd does. Hoping to get out there a lot this year so keep me in mind for rides.
