    300 Top End Advice

Upon further inspection of piston found the top ring wasn’t broken, the retaining pin was missing (fell out, came lose?) causing ring to rotate and resulting damage.

    300 Top End Advice

Cylinder is possibly beyond repair. Heavily scored and a sizable chip in one of the transfer ports. See for yourself: One of the piston rings is broke but it’s hard to say what started the terrible chain of events. Clearly some piece of metal made its way to the combustion chamber and was banging around in there for awhile. Aside from potentially needing a new cylinder if the original is beyond repair, my consern is there a bunch of shrapnel rattling around in the case. I couldn’t see any signs of damage to the crank or rod and everything is still tight and smooth but I can’t say for certain nothing is down there.

Need help with a bike recovery Sunday.

Big thanks to everyone involved. It would not have been possible without you. Truly a great community of riders here.

    Recommendations for Big Bike tires

X2 on Mitas E07 Can get plenty of mileage out of it, smooth riding on pavement and surprisingly good traction even in deep sand.

Golden Tyre 90/100-21 with Nitro-Mousse Results

Spooned a GT fatty onto my 300 a couple years ago and have never used a different front tire since. FYI Shinko makes an exact copy (216MX?) of this tire that's a good amount cheaper if you're looking to save some money.

    Traveling with a truck: Suggestions?

If security isn't much of a concern I'd say tarp and a cargo net. Lot cheaper than a shell or trailer and has worked fine for me in the past. But if you're worried about your stuff getting stolen, I'd go with the shell if you can find a good deal. Pulling a trailer cross country kind of sucks (gas mileage suffers greatly, finding a parking spot can be tricky at times, and maneuvering in traffic is worse)

    Kugs Tecate run!

Are you using the exhaust to inflate that air mattress???
  8. Out riding this morning and came across this nature. Never seen a nature like this before.
  9. Sportsman class scored on furthest finish? Thinking about it....
  10. http://enduro21.com/index.php/usa/2606-lost-coyotes-mc-puts-on-special-hard-enduro-event The hard enduro sounded pretty cool and got some nation wide attention. I did the race on Sunday and that was no joke either. I think I finally got what I was asking for in an enduro. Wicked downhills, gnarly uphill and too many rocks to mention. You'd be ripping up one of these hills pinned because of how loose it was but there were softball size rocks hidden everywhere waiting to pop your tire up and throw you off line. One hill I never made it up and just took the alternate route around. Tried it twice but couldn't make it more than half way up before almost looping it out. Made me realize I really need to get back in shape. Finished 62 out of the 64 that did the full five tests but I finished!
  11. Decided not to do the hard enduro but I'm 93% sure I'll be there for the Sunday race at the same location. Planning on camping out Saturday night. Kind of a cool format. Do five laps but not consecutively. You can take breaks between laps. Never done it that way before so should be fun. Planning on entering Vet intermediate class so I can do the "hard" loop.
  12. 3-Day weekend coming up for me. Need to ride. Most likely going to Lark on one of the above mentioned days if not both because I'm too lazy to go anywhere further away. Intermediate to fast pace depending on whoever shows up, will adjust to group. Saturday morning probably not until 930am-ish but can show up earlier on Sunday. Meet at tree. White Colorado, orange smoker.

    Lark Sat/Sun AUG-12/13

Yep it was an awesome ride. Rode some stuff I've never done before and really enjoyed it
  14. 3rd time in 4 rides. It's starting to get really annoying. Any suggestions on how to keep from ripping the valve stem out? 2 times it was a ultra heavy duty tube, the 3rd a regular. I powder them pretty good when installing and make sure the stem is perfectly straight in before setting the bead. Rim lock is plenty tight too. Tried going higher tire pressure last time but still ripped out. It's the rear tube by the way. Maybe I need to start using tube grease?

My tube stems keep falling off

I was thinking about going to mousse actually. I was also thinking it might be the tire. It didn't start doing this until I installed the new desert version AT81. Maybe I'm getting too much traction? Or maybe my rim lock is worn out and not gripping as well as it used to.

    Sand Worthy Big Bikes??

I'll echo the 950/990 sentiment. Love my 950. Never had any issues blasting through sand, even with full camping gear. When in doubt throttle out
  21. Anyone else thinking about racing it? At Glenn Helen put on by D37 Prairie Dogs. From all of my extensive research it's considered one of America's toughest enduro races which really peaks my interest. A lot more tight technical and wicked hill climbs and waterfalls not so much full throttle desert. Haven't seen anything definitive for this year's format but last year's was divided into 3 races. First race is qualifier for second race starting position that's novice friendly nothing crazy. Second race is qualifier for final and really ramps it up on difficulty level, have to finish within 45min of leader to qualify for final. Final is real stupid with lots of insane hard enduro and enduro cross type obstacles (not really expecting to make it to final but would be cool to watch the pros do it). All you have to do is finish the first race to get finisher pin or whatever swag they'll be giving out. I'm like 95% sure I'll be going.
  22. I'm looking forward to getting back like you can't believe. I'm jealous of all the Ken S adventures I'm missing out on
