Taking a motorcycle to Mexico in the back of a truck
TexasDualler replied to erik_26's topic in Open Discussion
Have your valid registration for the bike. No gas in gas cans, only what’s in the tank. -
Transferred my Honda from South Carolina (bought it while stationed there) to CA a few years ago. I don’t recall doing any kind of SMOG. Just a few hours at the DMV for some paper work, weight reduction of my wallet, and they checked the VIN and engine serial number on the bike. Other than all the sitting around and waiting at the DMV, it was a pretty easy process. Bike did have several thousand miles on it at that point so I guess I know why they didn’t require SMOG now.

Replace “shut up and ride” with “put your ride report in the write-ups section dammit”

BBTR Big Bear Run
TexasDualler replied to Crawdaddy's topic in 1 to 3 Day Ride Write-Ups, Stories and Photos
Yep on the 300 with the "Big Bear" setup installed (4 gallon gas tank, powered GPS mount, and license plate installed). Last year I was with Kenny and Pete and bailed out around 160miles. This year I went the full 210miles but didn't make it in time. Unsure if I'll attempted it again. -
BBTR Big Bear Run
TexasDualler replied to Crawdaddy's topic in 1 to 3 Day Ride Write-Ups, Stories and Photos
The weather was about as good as it gets this year. 38 special was absolute mayhem during my run up. Bikes stuck everywhere. People attempting every line possible. One bike stalled in a choice line with 5 or 6 others stuck behind him. I wasn’t helping the traffic jam much myself. Bike kept over heating and forced me to let it cool down between moving a few feet up at a time. Plus there’s traffic coming down at the same time. I was moving at a quick pace prior to 38 special with minimal stops in hopes of getting ahead of most of the traffic but I seemed to get there right as most people were making their run up. On my way back down it wasn’t as crowded. I have to echo the sentiment on the HW run. You have to be on the athletic side and although it’s not a race you have to move at a brisk pace throughout the day to make it in time. I was on pace to finish in time up until about the last 30miles but didn’t have enough energy left in the tank to finish in time. -
25th Annual Big Bear Run June 22nd
TexasDualler replied to Crawdaddy's topic in Upcoming Organized or Promoted Rides and Events
Went the distance on the hard route but missed the very last check by an hour so no plaque for me again this year. Started rolling like 5 minutes after 6am, didn’t finish until 830pm. It was a loooonnngggg day. No flats. No mechanicals other that the bike running like crap most the day. Boiled off a ton of water on 38 special and white mountain. I was beat by check 5 but powered through the rest. No major get offs, couple of standing drops on 38 special amongst all the carnage. Body is good, just insanely sore. Not sure if I’ll try again next year. Don’t think want to put my body through that again anytime soon 😂 -
Happy birthday uncle Kenny!

That’s the plan! I’ll be there bright and early so I can get started as soon as they’ll let us start. -

I'll be out there taking on the hard route. Fell short of finishing the hard route last year by about 40miles but I'm shooting for the plague again this year. -
Corral Canyon Trail Maintenance 6-22
TexasDualler replied to ADV Bum's topic in Adopt a Trail and Other Trail Maintenance Issues, Volunteer Trail Days, etc.
May I humbly suggest trying to deconflict with the D37/38 event schedules when planning future dates? I would have liked to come out and help but had already committed to the Big Bear Run this time around and one of the past trail maintenance dates fell on a D38 race weekend. -

Guess I've been doing it wrong all these years. Being a neat freak, I've always used BelRay SuperClean because I really like that it doesn't make a mess but it looks like it's time to make a change. I can attest though that my chains do last and have minimal stretch using BelRay. -

I’m in. Will be riding 950 -
240lbs? Just another overweight Japanese bike. I’ll wait for KTM to come out with something similar. It’s sure to be 30lbs lighter

There are less expensive ways to test ride bikes you know... 😂 -
After 3 years and hundreds of riding hours, the souls of my Sidi's had become completely tore up (wish I had taken a pic but forgot). The left boot actually had a hole clean through the sole where the peg ate through it. After reading some other post here about resoling I decided to go that route as opposed to buying a new pair of ~$500 boots. I was going to try Factory Resole/Sole Performance but somehow I mixed it up with MX Boot Resole and Repair in my google search. None the less they did a super great job. Filled out a form on their website, printed it out and shipped the form with my worn out boots (~$15) to their shop in Corona Del Mar. Got a call a couple days later from Greg to discuss the work to be done, just a resole in my case but they can do other repairs as well. Then another call after the weekend that my boots were done and ready to be shipped out (free return shipping). Boots showed up a day later and look fantastic! They even cleaned them up for me! Price for the soles and labor came out to $118, which I wouldn't be surprised if that's a little more than usual because of my extra large feet (size 14) but still very reasonable when compared to the cost of new boots. Very happy with the service so I thought I'd pass along the info. www.mxbootrepair.com

How hard is it to scratch the rim while using? Pretty nifty tool. Surprised I haven't seen them before.

Got the premium suede on the seat for my 950. I dig it. Super comfy. Great for long leisurely rides and I’ve gotten quite a few compliments. Although I see you don’t have that option and I’m guessing this is for your small bike? Probably a completely different riding style than I do on my 950.

2019 AMA D37 Sprint Enduro Series
TexasDualler replied to robertaccio's topic in Off-Road Racing Events, Discussions, Rally Racing, Info, etc.
Great race yesterday. Signed up in Vet B and finished 5th. Pretty happy with that. Test 3 wasn’t that bad. Lots of rocky sections and goat trails on hill sides. Couple gnarly uphills but either I got lucky with my line selection or I’m really starting to get good. There was one huge hill, 3rd gear pinned and hope you make it type. I took the EZ go around both times and don’t regret it. Really fun race format. Hopefully I’ll get to do more. -

Sunday riders do all 3 tests. Saturday riders only do the first 2 tests. The 3rd test is supposed to be the fun one. You’re right though, first 2 tests are the same both days. -
