  1. rode up through Trona and tried a bit of dirt. hit a deep bit of sand and went down. i appear to have broke my arm. very bummed out. didn't gaff off the group, just got a little sidetracked. hope everyone had a great time.
  2. My plan is to leave Friday morning, but I don't know when we'll arrive. My brother in law is coming too (and maybe his wife) and he suggested we hit some alternate roads on the way up (he's far more experienced than I am - I would have just taken the freeway). Since I don't know what he's got planned I'm not sure when I'll arrive. Saturday is definitely set aside for riding with the group, wherever we end up going. Just wanted to chime in that I'd love to go along on the ride to Saline Valley on Sunday; the pics I see on here look amazing. I'll PM my phone number to you to get things started. Can't wait to get out there!
  3. Thanks for the feedback; I'm a little closer to being prepared now! My brother-in-law heard about this ride this weekend, so there will be another GS rider there. We'll be arriving Friday afternoon.
  4. If you don't mind my asking, what are you bringing? Anything in particular? I'm bringing myself, my bike, 2 change of clothes, and some water. And my gopro and a way to charge it. Hopefully my tire repair kit will be here before I leave. And some peanuts as a snack. I can't think of anything else I'd need... I rented a room so no tent. Anyway, really looking forward to this trip.
  5. I will be taking the GS - it's a bit too clean looking!
  6. I too have reservations arriving 3/7 and leaving Sunday (whenever). Really looking forward to my first off-road experience. This being my first time off-road, is there anything in particular I should bring? My background is either short day-rides, or interstate tour riding. Thanks. I'm super stoked!

Thanks for the welcome! I was a bit worried that I didn't have a KTM (the bike I seem to read about most on this site)! Just booked my time for the Death Valley ride. I know it's going to be a blast.

Thanks guys. Looks like BikeSlut and I are about the same age, so no promises about about not riding like him... (I'm sure there's a joke in there I just haven't figured out yet. ;-)

Hey everyone. Been riding since '85, but only recently switched from street/sport bikes to a dual-sport. I've got a BMW r1200 GSW last year, and have used the bike for a few touring rides with my wife. I want to get some dirt riding in as well, but have only managed to so far get up to Angeles Crest and ride a few dirt roads. I'm really interested in the Death Valley ride coming up in March. Anyway, looking forward to new adventures!
