East County Close LEGAL Local Rides?

What kind of bike are you on? I have a Pistol Match in Alpine Saturday Morning and plan to camp somewhere that night since I'll be getting a late start I'm thinking Mount Laguna or the like if the gates are open. Maybe ride down to Pine Valley OHV then down past the Helipad to Buckman Springs Road. There's a few spots I found to camp down there that might be nice but I'm thinking of going up Thing Valley to a site I use on Mount Laguna pretty often.
  2. Cleveland Ntl Forest comes to mind right off. But there's lots of close by options up there. Palomar Divide Truck Trail and Nate Harrison Grade are up there. There's a route I like to take when I camp on Santa Rosa Mountain that takes me from Ramona to the top of Santa Rosa on mostly dirt roads.
  3. What part of the county do you live in? Here's my reviews on the Shinko 804/805 (big block) tires

East County Close LEGAL Local Rides?

You're not going to find much between El Cajon and Miramar (base) to ride on. Pretty much all that land is East Miramar (military). Once you get east of Lakeside (I live out there) you start getting into better areas. We can ride from Alpine to Julian on dirt roads then there's lots of stuff south and north of Pine Valley. Then you have the desert but that's a good ride from El Cajon if you are on a small bike.

Decent gun store in Lakeside area?

Lower was aquired and carbine has been built test fired and BZOed. Went to Le Mesa Collectibles for my powder and will be going to them for onesies and twosies purchases from now on. After you factor in Hazmat fees their prices are more than fair. I paid 30 dollars for a 1 lb can of Accurate #7 and their primer prices are fair as well. Unless you are buying in bulk I can say they have fair prices. I'd have to by 5 or so lbs of powder and a bunch of primers to make it worth the hazmat fees of shipping online and the guys there are real nice.
  6. I'm looking for a decent little gun store in the Lakeside area to pick up a stripped lower reciver for an AR-15. ANyone have any suggestions? Maybe places that are open on Sundays?
  7. Tdub lets just do Pine Valley OHV area? We can ride down past the helipad do the loop then down bucman springs road up and across to Sunrise Highway on Thing Valley (if the sunrise gate isn't closed was last time I went by) then over to Pine Vally via skyline (these gates were closed about a month ago as well) then back home. That's a good day ride and is pretty good to go on big bikes. Even on my STrom.

    Otay on MLK day

Yeah we ran into some guys shooting at the bunkers one day. I love shooting as much as the next guy but there's TONS of places out in the desert to shoot. Their backstop was horrible and they couldn't get any range if they wanted to. We hung out for a few then left.

Not at the moment I only broke out the 9mm stuff and have 1000 small pistol primers right now.

Decent gun store in Lakeside area?

Found a place close to the house. La Mesa Collectibles apparently has a full selection of reloading goodies including powder, primers ect.

Decent gun store in Lakeside area?

Bump this up to the top a for a bit for another gun related question. Anyone know where to buy reloading powder in the area other than El Cajon Gun Exchange? Would rather not deal with them unless I have to. Thought I had more in the reloading can but when I went to get my other bottle realized I was out.
  12. Denali Sound Bomb, WOLO Bad Boy, and Stebel air horn are all the same horn just with different name/packaging and sometimes different mounting options. Stebel used to be the only maker many years ago. I've ran their horns on nearly all my bikes. Really need to get one on the Strom I guess. I'd just find the best deal on any of the above names and buy it. Sometimes the WOLO is chromed so you may want to steer clear of it if you're not into chrome. It's good to see Denali isn't overcharging just based on their name. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=wolo+bad+boy http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_0_10?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=stebel+nautilus&sprefix=stebel+nautilus%2Caps%2C245&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Astebel+nautilus

Decent gun store in Lakeside area?

I've only bought ammo from Turners and had good experince didn't go check out their firearms counter. Gun Exchange lost my business when they wanted 40 dollars for a box of 12ga bird shot.
  16. Oh yeah I've heard of that place. Never got around to getting out there when I'm out in the desert.
  17. Yup I'll be there as a HDIC Minion and the comms guy.
  18. I messed up my ankle and am at work so can't make it. Pine Valley OHV area is great for big bikes. Was just there on Sunday.
  19. Where's salvation mtn? been out to Font's Pointe a bunch of time. Love that spot.
  20. There's a Facebook group call SOCAL Off Road Recovery. They're who initially noticed this and launched the initial search effort. Good group to be a part of they've assisted with lots of recoveries down here at no cost to those being recovered. Great group of folks.
  21. So no one showed up for my ride no big deal haha was a last minute deal and it's nice to get out and about on your own sometimes. Going up Veijas Grade AFter taking the detour though pine valley due to construction stopped at the little one lane bridge. I was going to go up and over to the Sunrise Hwy but the Forest Service gates were closed. I rode around on the sunrise highway and they were closed on that side as well. Shot over to Pine Valley OHV area and had a little bike nap just before the Helipad. Skidplate bottomed out going down hill (I picked a bad line for the strom) and it pitched me over to the left since the ground that the skidplate landed on was unlevel. Power lifted it out of the small wash out spot and then got it on a semi level piece of ground but couldn't use the kickstand so I just leaned it over on the hill. Ate my lunch of Beefaroni on the Helipad. When I rolled up another group from SDAR was there gearing up to leave out. We said our hellos and goodbyes and they went on their way. I finished up my lunch and decided instead of going all the way back out to the PIne Valley Cul De Sac I'd go down to Buckman SPrings road and boogie on back to the house to see the wife and kiddo before I have to go to work this week. Next area I'll be poking around in on my next day ride. https://spotwalla.com/tripViewer.php?id=f8225680734d14419

    Interesting luggage system

Been around for a while. Everyone I've read about who has the system loves it. I still prefer my hard luggage.
  23. More backtracking than I like to do but overall a good time. I've started doing more short half day rides and less weekend long rides since the kiddo was born. It's great that there are great riding areas like this around here. And my orginal plan was to have lunch on Skyline Drive but it's all closed off right now. Oh well lunch at the Helipad was nice as well.
  24. So in April or May we will be going to a dog show that is going to last 3 days in Moorpark, Ca. To avoid huge hotel bills we are wanting to camp in the National Forest just North of Moorpark. I've included a link to the area that we are looking around. I also plan to make an early spring run up there to scout the area. The catch is the spot has to be able to be accessed by a VW Jetta station wagon and a Honda Pilot. That may limit my options but I know lots of these FS routes are pretty well graded. I assume that they are probably closed the moment due to seasonal weather. Thanks for any help folks. https://www.google.com/maps/dir//34.4781773,-118.8922899/@34.4445506,-118.9574318,11z
  25. I'll be out riding between Alpine and Mount Laguna tomorrow if anyone is interested. I plan on getting some gravy and biscuts at the Carls Jr in Alpine around 830 or 9 then riding for a little bit and eating my packed lunch on the trail side between pine valley and the Sunrise highway depending on how quick I get though it all. Plan to head home around 1230 or 1300 or so. A nice easy day with an early end. I'll be on my radio on the SDAR freq. 146.505. Or just show up at the Carl's Jr in Alpine. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Carl's+Jr./@32.8387009,-116.780339,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x80d9608c3e6e89f5:0x7287487561d4a5f8
